I think the issue is one team offering a player 10 year deal, that puts the pressure on other teams to match it if they want to get him. Or puts pressure on teams to sign other big players for long contracts if they want to keep them. It's a risk, especially for teams that are not in good financial condition.

Yes it's over! I started a thread on it but there aren't many details at this point.

The schedule should be coming out some time between Thursday and Sunday. I'm anxious too. Me and my fiance' are season ticket holders.

But this should tide you over until then. 1st, is the odds that Vegas is putting out:

Pittsburgh Penguins 8/1
New York Rangers 17/2
Vancouver Canucks 9/1
Los Angeles Kings 12/1
Philadelphia Flyers 12/1
Chicago Blackhawks 14/1
Boston Bruins 16/1
Detroit Red Wings 16/1
St. Louis Blues 16/1
Minnesota Wild 18/1
San Jose Sharks 20/1
Carolina Hurricanes 22/1
Washington Capitals 22/1
Buffalo Sabres 25/1
Edmonton Oilers 25/1
Nashville Predators 28/1
Tampa Bay Lightning 28/1
Montreal Canadiens 30/1
New Jersey Devils 30/1
Toronto Maple Leafs 30/1
Anaheim Ducks 40/1
Colorado Avalanche 40/1
Dallas Stars 40/1
Florida Panthers 40/1
Ottawa Senators 40/1
Phoenix Coyotes 40/1
Calgary Flames 50/1
Winnipeg Jets 50/1
New York Islanders 66/1
Columbus Blue Jackets 100/1

Next, is TSN.ca's NHL preview HERE

And, if anyone is interested, here is my 2013 Bruins Thread

Just read this on the Buffalo Sabres site.

Quote:
If all goes well, training camps could start as early as this Sunday, and several reports have the regular season set to get underway on January 19. The Sabres were already scheduled to host a home game on January 19, but Black said there’s a chance Buffalo could open the season at home on Sunday, January 20. Official announcement of the regular season schedule will be made in the next few days.

The Penguins will more than likely start on the road in Philly on the 19th - it would more probbly be an NBC afternoon game.

I was thinking this morning; The owners really didn't think this thought (I know, real shocker there). They are going to try to make a splash with their season openers, the same weekend as the AFC and NFC conference championships. I don't know what kind of coverage these games would get in Canada, but these 2 games are a huge draw.

If the owners would have come to an agreement 4 weeks ago, it still would've been the regular season in in the NFL, by the time the 1st puck dropped.

And, as a side note... I say "owners", but I know that not all of the owners were in favor of pushing this lockout so far back. Some reports have 15-20 owners willing to deal as far back as the beginning of December (these reports led to Burton's claim that the seaso would start around or before Christmas). It was 6-8 hard line owners that sought to crush the union rather than do what EVERY OTHER PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE has done. Profit sharing among the owners. [HEY!!! Nit wits... Look what the NFL has done over the past 15 yrs.] And we all know which owners they are. Right, J.J.?

The games are, if course, covered up here in Canada but believe me hockey is still king. I'm sure many people will be pvr'ing them to watch after hockey. My Jets are schedules to play their first game January 19th against the Sens. It will be the first game played in Canada.

Just another side note, Yahoo has re-opened fantasy hockey, including new teams/leagues. Check it out if you want.
