Walking ship tour vs Art of the Theme ship tour

What is the difference between these tours? If you are only able to do one of them, which one would you select?
Thank you

The walking ship tour on the first day is just an "Orientation" type tour. They show you where everything is. Like the restaurants, theaters, bars and shops.

We did the Art of the Theme tour a couple of weeks ago on the Dream and it was very interesting. They took us to several places on the ship and pointed out things you would probably overlook, unless you know they are there. It was a very good tour which I would recommend if you have the time. Much different than the walking tour of the ship on embarkation day.

On my last trip they had a behind the scenes restaurant tour. They do not have a bridge tour for security reasons.

Just because it worked for me or worked this way in the past or is part of the great Dis lore is no reason it will work this way in the future. Depending on the CM you get, new interpretation of the rules, changes in rules, weather over the Himalayas, your results may be different.

There is no cost. They are not behind the scenes tours like in the parks.

We did the "walking tour" on the Fantasy and really, we thought it was a waste of time. The group was large, so we could not hear. It really just walked through a few basic public areas and then ended in a hot, small, cramped hallway outside deck 5 child areas.

Nothing that you could not do easier on your own.

The tours are free. I did the Art of the Theme tour on the Dream and really enjoyed it! It focuses primarly on the art and decor of the ship... how artists and craftsman and decorators created unique Disney touches all over the ship. The guide talked about the different carpeting in the hallways, different music piped throughout the ship, etc. We got to tour Remy and Palo when they were empty...so many special things! At any rate, I would certainly do this tour again on the Fantasy in October.

Do you schedule this at guest services?

You don't have to schedule it. It will be listed in the navigator and you just show up.

No need to schedule it. It will be listed in the Navigator along with the meeting place, so you just show up at the right time. On the Dream, the tour I did began in Meridian...great bar/lounge between Palo and Remy.

On the Dream, we did, and enjoyed, both tours. The walking tour on the first day helps to acquaint you with the ship. The Art Tour shows you lots of interesting things about the actual ship. We plan on doing both on the Fantasy as well.

The navigator states that the Art of the Theme Ship tour is for guests 18 years & older, the walking tour does not have an age restriction. Just mentioning this in case you will have kids traveling with you. Our kids didn't want to go to the kids clubs, so my DH & I did this tour on different days. I went on the sea day & the tour was very crowded, they broke us into 2 groups. My husband did the same tour on the CC day at 2 PM and was the only person on the tour. He loved having 2 cast members basically to himself to explain everything and got some great photos, too.

I highly recommend this tour. It gives you some interesting information about the ship that definitely can be conversation starters.

It explains some of the theming of the different areas of the ship, especially Palo and Remy. On our Dream cruise, there was only DH and I along with one other woman.

I've taken this tour on the Magic and the Dream. It is a must do on our Fantasy cruise later this year.
