Ohh, I need help from you cruising folks. I only know DCL but I'm looking for another line to do an Alaska cruise in 2014. My sister wants to go with me and my Mom, but she won't cruise DCL because they don't have a casino (I'm not sure she is related to me...she doesn't "get" Disney).

Any suggestions?

You came in at the right time. I have plenty of pictures on this ship including the casino. She is georgous ! The food was fantastic. I will post more pics so you see. I am going on another BVE on Oct 21st. I believe it is the Holland Line this time. But I will post some pics.

What kind of suggestions are you looking for? A different line?

I've been on Norwegian and Carnival 1x each and would cruise either of them again... BUT it would totally depend on the ship. I don't really think any line can be judged as a whole... you definitely have to look at the ship you are interested in.

I have been on carnival and holland America, I will not cruises them again. Just our preference, we like a different type of cruise.

But it all depends on what you want out of it.

What makes you not want to cruise them again? Holland American cruises out of Tampa so was thinking of trying them sometimes. Carnival does too but we only did the one ship so curious about your experience.

Yep. I am looking for recommendations for other lines (besides DCL) that do the Alaska cruises. And for specific ships within those lines.

I have never sailed anything but DCL so I would love any suggestions.
I think I may check out the cruise critic boards a bit to see what people over there think too (but that board scares me, LOL).

I have cruised the Carnival 3 times. Once from Port canaveral, Port of Miami and Long Beach. I really liked the Glory ship. I don't mind cruising them, I just want to try a different line. I would do the repo cruise with the Miracle ,as she is trading places with the splendor. But the fact that the one Princess Ship will sail year round out of SF now is nice, no flying. I can take the train, and no hotel involved. So cost factors into it as well. Since some of us have sailed different lines I am sure we can answer questions you may have.

The experience itself was not something that was impressive to me.

For me Carnival was a huge party all the time, drunks all around the pool and coming to dinner.

When I was on HAL it was very stuffy and most of the people were rude, they also seemed to change us for every little thing. Nickled and dimed us to death.

I just prefer the laid back relaxed, adult experience I find on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.

We are 40 and 50, not that we are very senior but we are not kids either.

I am over there almost every day! They are not bad, but just remember to be specific about your questions. I mostly tend to stay on my sailing, but have ventured out among the general questions...

Brandi, does the Holland line tend to be more older folks? I would love to try the Cunard line someday. That may be a whole new experience. Carnival is more a party atmosphere. As soon as I stepped on Princess, that was like a wow factor to me. Me and my DH are 51. I really liked the atmosphere there. I enjoyed the couple we talked to in the MDR.

There were a bunch of people who were in the 40-60 age range but it felt very uptight and very stuffy. Like I was going to get scolded for doing something all the time. I was on there for 10 days and I was uncomfortable the whole time. Could not wait to get off the ship.

Just you I put this in prospective we have been on 13 cruises over 9 days long.
