Your life sounds ridiculously fun too!
I work in a performing arts institute and I know how hard it is to actually go out and work as a actress/performer/anything in the arts- so I really admire what you are doing!

And that is really, really sweet of you to say. Yes, it's very hard! Sigh. But I have to just keep swimming, just keep swimming....

Chapter Two:

Wallets On The Car Roof And The Beginning Of A Caffeine Romance

Before we continue with the adventure I have included a map from google for those who want to picture the moving animated dotted line that appears in movies when people roadtrip...
The red line is highway 10 which is what we drove on from SoCal to Florida.
Also feel free to sing the Muppets ’Moving Right Along’ while you picture that dotted line… It feels appropriate.

So after moth city we all climbed back in the car and continued on the long road ahead, our next stop was a couple of hours later when the sun was rising over dusty hot Arizona. We decided to stop and have breakfast at a Denny's as their breakfast menu and the idea of coffee excited the whole party. We spotted it from off the highway and made our hasty exit.

It was around 6am the morning and a mild 95 degrees... Ughhh what? I mean I'm from Australia which is pretty much a hot desert a lot of the time but even that didn't prepare me for the heat of this journey.
So we gobbled up massive amounts of food while sitting in puddles our own sweat and drove around to target where we bought pillows. This was because after the first night of non stop driving and trying to sleep, all of our necks had stiffened to an awkward angle where it hurt to move it at all. Pillows were a good choice. After target we drove another couple of minutes to get gas, we were almost there when Bek let out a shriek as she realized she left her wallet and pillow on top of the car when we had driven off.
That’s right we had driven…ON THE HIGHWAY…for a good 5 minutes going 80 miles an hour with a wallet and pillow on the roof. We pulled out the exit and stopped as soon as we could and luckily nay miraculously they were still there but geez heart attack!! So we stopped for gas and took an extra couple of minutes to leap around?

And clean the bug covered windscreen- which still has ridiculous amounts of flippin moth residue on it by the way!

And use our complimentary toothpicks from Dennys

We also grabbed some snacks- Jerky for the boys

Yogurt for the girls!

And a 5 hour energy shot for the driver.

We kept driving, Arizona passed then onto new Mexico, so we had a game where every time we passed over a new state line we tried to snap a picture of the state sign and sing an appropriate song...this was harder in some states than others obviously. New Mexico was the x-files theme by memory? It was quite uneventful there was long flat open plains and signs about aliens.

There was also interesting rocks. Although our judgment may have been a little off on what "interesting" really means I mean after you see nothing for hours and hours, you come across a big clump of rocks and it's more exciting than you would imagine. There is jumping and squealing in the car, pictures are taken of said rocks and it becomes the topic of conversation for the next few hours.

So we passed some semi interesting rocks and on into Texas.
Ohhhhh Texas! Nothing could prepare us for Texas. Now for all your Texans out there, I have nothing against your state....really I don't. We just saw it in an unflattering light for an uncomfortably long amount of time. Firstly Texas was the longest state we would go through BY FAR but the thing about highway 10 is that they literally built it so it doesn't go through anything remotely interesting. Especially in Texas! It went on for years and years and we were still driving, I honestly think I aged about 10 years driving through Texas. That said, i will take you through the few highlights. One of the first things we saw in Texas was a big sign that states "Do Not Pick Up Hitchhikers As They Are Most Likely Escaped Inmates" so that made us chuckle...and lock the doors. I should also mention that driving so far we had very hot temperatures but it was all dry heat which is fine. Suddenly in Texas we hit humidity and the storms started rolling.

Now i love storms but not like this, the sky would open and water would pour down so hard that I actually feared for the life of my windscreen wipers. It was the kind of rain where you can't even pull over because you can't see more than 3 inches in front of your car so you crawl along praying that you wont run off the road or into anyone or drown while driving. So that was fun being hunched over the wheel for hours with my eyes bloodshot from concentrating. The caffeinated beverage count was about 4 at this stage.

During one of these freak storms there was a hitch hiker on the side of the road. Naturally because we were crawling along trying not float away he saw us and made eye contact. Ughh it's the worst isn't it. Eye contact with someone you dont want it with. It's like children selling cookies outside a supermarket when you have no cash and you have to walk straight by their little stand. You can feel their little pleading eyes on the back of your head as you fumble with your keys and pretend to check your phone 15 times. I am sorry children... I do support your cause... I just never carry cash!
Anyway eye contact was made with the hitchhiker and he gave us some over the top gesture for us to pull over and give him a lift. Now I'm not trying to be mean, but you know how some people just look like murderers? Well he did to an extreme degree, he just looked like he regularly hacked people up.
So we kept driving without stopping, he yelled some extremities, gave us the finger and a murderous look and that was that. Phewww… Well it would have been but then we stopped for gas about 40 mins down the road and there was our murdering friend, someone had picked him up and delivered him to us... HOORAY!!
He saw us and we saw him...
More horribly awkward eye contact was made and he started to walk over to our car babbling incoherently and waving his arms. It was the most terrifying ordeal!! Before he could murder us for real we literally sprinted back to the car scrambled in and took off as fast as little Betsy the Honda could manage. Ughhh murderers, littering the highways of America.

Next up “Please Get Out Of The Car And Place Your Hands Where I Can See Them”

It's not a road trip without Denny's and their wide selection of Slams!

Wow! That's like a road trip MIRACLE! And I think one should take all opportunities to leap around...you never know how long it may be before the next one!

That's what makes Denny's the high-class establishment that it is...complimentary toothpicks!

At least they posted helpful warning signs!

I'm totally enthralled!

And I know what you mean about Texas - Texans are nice and all, but I avoid that state like the plague.

At the end I literally gasped aloud and whispered, "Ohhh, did somebody get arrested?"

Can't wait.

Love your report so far! I'm eager to hear about a non-stop cross country journey and I think you may be crazy. But I like crazy.

Some things:

My husband and I also got married in Vegas but I opted to not have Elvis marry us. Elvis was not happy.

I am also a bad trip reporter (um, you can click the link at the bottom if anyone wants to, just saying) and didn't take pictures of food. But really there are so many, so why add to the mass?

Moth City? EEEEEK! I would have remained in the car.

I CANNOT believe the wallet and pillow were recovered! Amazing! Will that be good karma for the rest of the trip? Hmmm. Trying to decide if good things happening or bad things happening make a better trip report. I'm sure you'll make either funny.

Many, many years ago I worked at Denny's. I'm sorry.

Why do men think beef jerky is good traveling food? My husband thinks so and also thought it would be good waiting-for-the-birth-of-our-daughter food. He was wrong.

Do 5-hour energy drinks work?

So scary that the hitchhiker showed up again. Are you sure this isn't the plot for Harold and Kuman Go to White Castle?

Can't wait for more. I love your writing style. I'll give you a plug on my report (did I mention I have one?). Maybe you'll get two more readers.
