One Lousy Dinner

Having recently returned from 12 days at WDW, I will affirm that restaurants on property never cease to amaze me. I had a varied assortment of experiences on this trip, but one of, if not the worst dinner I have ever had on property was at Rose & Crown. I have enjoyed dining there in the past, but I won't return anytime soon. My wife's entree would have been acceptable except that it was overcooked; however, my entree consisted of a small piece of salmon, which wasn't fully cooked, atop a sparse amount of potatoes. This took up about a third of the plate. There was no vegetable accompaniment. Further, when I ask for bread service with the meal, I was informed that bread was no longer served. I offered to purchase bread and was told we have none to sell. The reason was that they could no longer obtain the type of bread they previously served so they just decided to discontinue it. What a sad joke!

We ate there a year ago, I don't remember the specifics but I do remember being disappointed and thinking we won't be back there again. I guess it hasn't gotten any better.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it. We eat a lunch at R&C every trip and stick to the shepherd's pie (they call it "cottage pie"), which is reliably delicious.

We always enjoy the atmosphere but have also decided for our trip this year to just get our fish and chips from the UK CS. The food just hasn't been impressive enough to warrant the prices for us anymore.

That's a shame. I have never dined there before as I love Raglin Road and know I will be disappointed with R&C.

This used to be our favorite restaurant. Last time we went, however, we experienced pretty much what OP did. We were sorely disappointed!

I saddened to hear this. We dined at R&C the first time in October and have nothing but high praise and raves for it.

The plate you had sounds like the fish market fish of the day, which is what I had. I will say the plate is small, but was so filling a larger size wasn't needed. My SO's plate, the fish and chips, was HUGE, and we even laughed that they must have known SO was a monster eater. We did not have bread, but we never thought to ask for it either.

I had better F&C from the CS than inside the restaurant at R&C.
The CS was fresh, hot, & crispy. I understand they've recently reduced the portion size. Might have to get a double order next time.

We also tend to get the CS fish and chips, and only go in R&C for the beer. The full service aspect has never impressed me..

We were very disappointed last year. Felt as if we all paid for the experience of watching Illuminations. Even for this this experience, the patio was so filled with people we left early.

[QUOTE="lfigment99;50383812"]I agree with posters who say that R&C has changed and not for the better. Rose and a Crown was always a must for us on every trip. We will never return unless menu changes dramatically and reviews improve. One thing I will suggest for those who desire bread with their meal is to order the fish and chips. There is about five times more breading than there is fish and that is not a good thing in my opinion. Illuminations is not worth the trip to R&C.
