Porthole, Verandah, or Navigator's Verandah for Alaska?

Trying to decide which room for Alaskan cruise. We had a verandah on the Fantasy and loved sitting out there and taking in the view. Considering just a port hole since it will be so cold. Can you sit in the portholes and look out? If we go with a navigator's verandah can you see from the sitting position? I am only 5 feet tall so don't know it I would like it if I would have to stand. Opinions please

You can see from a porthole. We had a SPH so an inside price for a view.

Some people think they are cool because they can hide behind a screen! Don't choke on it!

SPH = Secret Port Hole category 10A. There are I think 6 on the Magic and Wonder. We had one on the magic on our last cruise. Deck 5 forward, you can google it for pictures.

I would personally go for a navigators verandah but you wont be able to see over the railing when sitting in the balcony chair.

We had a verandah on our Alaska cruise and whenever we were out there, we were standing so that we could peer up and down the sides of the ship. My daughter is 4'10" and I know she wouldn't have been able to see over the rail if she were seated, but she has most of her height in her legs and an average torso.

We used our verandah a lot in Alaska. It came in handy when our son just wanted to play in the room - we could still take in the scenery. I would say to try for a "secret" Nav verandah. We got one of those on our first cruise (not Alaska) and it was great.
