That trunk or treat looks fun. We are scrooge like misers. We unscrew the porch light and hide in the back of the house for Halloween. Mostly because we don't want to deal with the cats getting out of the house on Halloween night. The other thing is that I "thought" we didn't want extra candy in the house, but Fran went to the grocery store last night and bought a 5lb bag of tootsie rolls and a huge bag of Reeces!

I ordered the Indian Rojak; a salad with the wonderful spicy sauce made from sweet potato. As with some of the Asian dishes, the sauce is a combination of sweet, salt and acidity. I had no complaints with my meal.

The open kitchen also afforded us a view of the cooks making Indian Roti. Some in our party ordered:

Dosai - a rice flour pancake, usually filled with black lentils served with various curries. They made it right in front of us.....and cooked the batter similar to how crepes are cooked.

Murtabak - Roti Chanai that is filled with various items in the middle. This one was filled with chicken and various vegetables. The curry sauce on the side was delicious!

My cousin did order just Roti Chanai with curry - the bread dough is rolled out flat and then folded over and cooked on a broiler. It comes out similar to a soft doughy version of puff pastry. Not for the faint-hearted....lots of oil involved during preparation and cooking!

Sadly, he sat at the opposite side of the table to me, so no picture.

In the heady smells and sounds that emanated from that kitchen, we were all transported back to being in Asia. And judging from the cacophony from the rest of the clientele of the night, we weren't the only ones tripping down memory lane!

All in all - a great familial, convival dinner night to remember.

HI Princess

I just stumbled across this - would you care to share where this place in the burbs is..... Having spent 5 years living in Asia I NEED some of those dishes. Mmmm Roti Chanai with curry sauce - comfort food at its best

Happy planning for your next trip (although you are away at the moment are you not??).

Thanks SadieDog. I've got two days left on this trip and then head back to Melbourne. Naturally, the PTR/TR updates will/is happening on the Disneyland subforum.

You know....I never did get round to trying the tootsie rolls. We have Reeces in Melbourne but I'm not sure I've ever seen tootsie rolls. I might need to go look in the USA Foods shop.

Hi Zaccy! Nice to see you here.

The place we ate at is called India Delights. It's out near the Forest Hills Shopping Centre. I do have the address at home; so it may be a couple of days before I can give you a specific address. Will PM you.

Yes. I'm in Silicon Valley right now. 2 more (shopping) days.

PIO- I just caught up on your PTR and I just have to say if you "overpacked" I am doomed! Jeff bought a luggage scale to deal with my over weight limits and Buddy refuses to be anywhere near me and the suitcases when we check in. I did some shopping last week and Marisa already is whining about how much may have to fit in the car or the way over.

Actually, I ended up with one top too many in my bag. So, it wasn't that bad.

Thanks zaccy. The shopping days were limited but I did manage to nearly fill my bag on the way home.

This one is the PTR for NEXT year's F&W trip (of which I'm hoping that my dates correspond with yours).

The TR for my California trip is here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2614243.

Hope to see you there.

Folks - I'm not exactly neglecting this PTR; but I'll be updating activities when I do get out and about and also about next year's plans. However, I will be reporting on the California trip TR.....there should be a bit of food porn.
