Heather & Adam's Wishes Wedding at Disneyland - 8/8/2013 - RCG/SBP

Hello! I’m Heather and my fiancι is Adam. We’ve been engaged since June 2011 and from that moment, I’ve been dreaming of having a Disneyland wedding. I've decided to create a PJ so I can share the information and ideas I've gathered with others because looking at other PJs has been extremely helpful for me, and also to have a record of everything in one place.

I’m the Disney fan in this couple. Adam’s not so bothered and in his words, I’m lucky we go once for my birthday every year (even though he has a great time once we’re there). I guess my love of Disney stems from taking trips to Disneyland every summer growing up. And somehow I convinced him to get married there!

We’ve known each other since kindergarten and have been together for almost 12 years now. We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs, but have never wavered from one another. He’s my best friend and I am so excited to marry him and start a family.

So we’ve done the site tour (more on that below), signed our contract and received our planning packet. Our official date is:

August 8, 2013 at the Disneyland Resort in CA!
Rose Court Garden and Sleeping Beauty Pavilion

OUR ENGAGEMENT

Last year for Adam’s birthday I organized a huge surprise party for him with the help of his dad. I took him go karting with his friends and when we got home, he was shocked again to find a house full of even more friends and family. Everything was going smoothly until his best friend wanted to talk to me outside. I humored him and went onto the patio. Strangely, everyone else followed us outside. Weird. I was looking out at the view when I felt a tap on my leg. I turned around and saw Adam, dressed in a suit, down on one knee. He said a lot of sweet words, which I couldn’t remember for the life of me, and as soon as he was done I shrieked, “Yes!”.

Turns out, his dad pushed the surprise party idea on me because he was in cahoots with Adam to make it an engagement party. Adam knew about the surprise party the entire time and played along, then surprised me with the engagement. Stinkers!

OUR SITE TOUR

We were considering three venues for our wedding, with Disney being my number one choice. At this point, we’d toured the other two venues and would make a final decision after the Disney tour.

So we arrived at Disneyland on a Thursday for our site tour with Cynthia. Walking up to the hotel, Adam let me know that he was just going along with me and he wasn’t totally convinced. Fine. I’d warned Cynthia we’d have to sell him on this. We were taken to a room immediately and asked if we’d like some refreshments. Water? Yes, please. We were brought two bottled waters and Milano cookies on, dare I say, a silver platter. Adam looked stunned.

Cynthia came in a short while later and covered everything we could think of. She then took us to view the ceremony and reception locations. The Rose Court Garden was absolutely gorgeous. The Adventure Lawn was gorgeous (yes, it’s just a lawn, but it was so peaceful and removed from everything). And then came the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion. Wow. Just wow. This was it, hands down.

We thanked Cynthia for spending an hour and a half with us, and proceeded to Downtown Disney for a walk around and dinner. Adam looked a little concerned. The problem? He was blown away by the venue, the service, and Cynthia herself. We had found our venue

We only spent about 30 minutes at the other two venues. Great places, friendly people, but no match for the awesomeness that is Disney. I never feel like I’m at a hotel or an amusement park at Disneyland – I feel like I’m walking around in a story, immersed in the setting, and that’s what I love. It must be that darn pixie dust!

Thanks Mindy! I had my heart set on those locations from the moment I saw them, but in person they're even more amazing.

sailormouse, I know! I had such a hard time finding Disneyland-specific information on here. Hopefully future and fellow DL brides will find it helpful! I'll share all the info I can.

We're almost 13 months out! So far we've decided on the following (I'll post photos once I get a higher post count):

Photographer - We've booked our photographer (Jenna from White Rabbit Photo Boutique) and have an e-shoot at the park on my birthday this year.

Officiant - We still need to formally ask him, but a family friend who's a pastor has agreed to officiate for us.

Theme - We're going for a soft, romantic, fairy tale theme. These are our colors (left) and the paper we'll use for the invitations from Cards & Pockets (right):

Save the Dates - I designed a magnet, prelim RSVP card and wrap around address label. I jazzed them up with some crystal embellishments and used the Disney•Pixar stamps for the envelopes. I also designed and built our wedding website, and will be doing the invitations, escort/place cards, and anything else I can think of.

Table Names - I found some wooden signs at Michael's and thought they'd be nice as the table names. I'm going to roughen them up a little so they look a little more vintage.

Shoes - I bought some shoes for my best friend's wedding this October, but I really want to wear them for our wedding! I initially wanted a flat or kitten heel, but I want to feel feminine, and I love bridal photos with quirky shoes, so these might be the ones!

Dress - I'm going dress shopping towards the end of August and am super excited! I love the Alfred Angelo Snow White dress, but am looking forward to trying on all different styles.

Honeymoon - We want to go snowboarding, golfing, or just relax on our honeymoon, so we're postponing it until the winter or next spring. Since we'll have a good group of people staying for the wedding, we're planning a mini Disneymoon the weekend after our wedding, and that will hold us over until our real honeymoon.

There will be a lot more to figure out once we have our planning session, but we have a good idea of what we want. We're trying to stay as close to the minimum as possible, which will be harder since we're doing dinner, but Adam and I are NOT morning people and we really want the buffet, which seems to fit better with dinner. We're also only going to have two bouquets, 4 boutonnieres, and simple centerpieces, so hopefully the floral pricing works out!

Our current guest list is up to 79 guests, but we're only expecting around 65 or so. Adam has a lot of family in England (his parents moved to CA in 1985, but all their family is still in England), so we're not sure how many of them will be coming. We're sending our Save the Dates out this month, which is early, but it will give them time to plan and let us know if they plan on coming via the Prelim RSVP on our website. The Sleeping Beauty Pavilion has a minimum capacity of 80 people, but since our wedding is on a Thursday, we can use it if we guarantee 60 people.

Heather, your ideas sound great! It seems like our style is very similar. I can't wait to see your projects come together.

Mindy - I did join the FB group and have found it so helpful and informative. All the girls are so lovely! Hopefully as I go though this process I'll have more to share!

Hello and congratulations! Is the Sleeping Beauty Pavillion included in the Wishes package or is it an additional fee? I am planning my wedding and we are still trying to decide which package and which locations. Thank you!

disneynerdette - Yes, the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion is included in the Wishes package. You pay a $2200 ceremony fee and then the food and beverage minimums for the reception. If you are only having a reception, there's a $1000 reception fee.

We looked at the Rose Court Garden, Adventure Lawn and SBP at the Disneyland Hotel, and the Brisa Courtyard and Trilium Room at the Grand Californian, but there are more sites available with the Wishes package. Mindy knows all about this stuff!!
