I didn't love it either. I liked the characters and the movie was visually stunning. I was a bit disappointed with the storyline though. It is not going to be a Pixar movie that I can watch over and over again or really spend money on merchandise for. I was really expecting to like it a little more than I did.

DD7 said it was okay but hasn't said anything when commercials come on for Brave toys and she is always one to say " I want that!!!"

Okay, I must disagree. I loved the film.

First of all, Merida is a strong female character who knows what she wants and is determined to get it. She sends a positive message to young girls, exemplifying how you can decide your own destiny, and you don't need a man to live happily ever after.

The scenery in the film is absolutely gorgeous.

And then I was pleasantly surprised to find that the film was about Merida and her mom (I tried to avoid spoilers). This is unique because most princesses don't have moms or don't spend much time with them throughout the film. I was really glad to see that Merida had a strong mother who was with her throughout the entire story. I feel like this plot is so much more relatable than other princess plots - her mother has expectations which she must live up to, but she wants to be her own person. She has to find a balance between being a lady and having fun - this is what girls are dealing with today. Women are struggling with now taking on the once-typical male role, while still having to maintain the female image.

I am very happy that Disney/Pixar has created a princess who the young girls of this generation can look up to. I hope that Merida becomes a staple, and I think that especially because she was created by Pixar, she will be around for a while.

I would like Disney to embrace their new, ambitious princesses and add Tiana, Rapunzel, and Merida to princess character dining.

We saw Brave at the first showing on Friday and really enjoyed it.

I admit Tangled seemed to have a lot more action but one thing I really liked about Brave (I don't think this is a spoiler but if it is someone scream out so I can edit) - I liked it that there wasn't really a "bad guy".

I purposely eliminated the spoiler in the hope that others who quoted your post will do the same. I'm sure you didn't do it intentionally, but hope in the future you will be more careful.

Lots of people like to read reviews without having to read spoilers that they weren't warned about in advance. And that really did spoil things a bit for me-we aren't seeing the movie til tonight.

Yes, Brave is getting very good reviews (75%, or so, positive.)

But, it's well worth noting that many (most) of the other
Pixar films get in the 90-99% positive review territory...
and that percentage means those other films were getting spectacular reviews,
especially in this age of skeptical reviewers.

I beg to differ..the 2 yv reviews and the 1 radio guy I heard were singing its praises......yet 2 noted they were not bifans of car 2, yet was BrAVE P THERE WITH THE BEST OF dISNEY/pIZAR.

I wasn't seeing the movie til friday oh well. I hope it will still be enjoyable despite the spoiler! And normally i'm a huge fan of spoilers.... just not this one.

I did listen to the soundtrack for a bit on itunes. I really enjoyed it. I'm hoping i'll really like this movie as well, as i'm a redheaded girl whose family dates back to the highlands of scotland, so I feel some weird bond with the movie

No. I actually have a vague recollection of a school play somewhere back there. It just didn't grab me as something I wanted to see. Probably ought to see it anyway. I felt that way about Hunchback and it's one of my favorites.

As a mother of a future teenager, I adored the story. Because a time will come when my sweet girl thinks I'm mean, unfair or even a monster for trying to help her learn what she needs to know to make it in this world. Pretty much every teenage girl and mother go through that battle of wills, of letting go, growing up and accepting each other for who they really are as individual people and not just as mother and daughter. I thought it was a beautiful story of that process.

Did I love it as much as Toy Story? No. But I still lived it.

Lots of fun to "spend some time" with her.

And, Brave is full of some, individually, really good scenes.

But, after seeing them all and making it to the end of the picture,
I can't help but think that, taken as a whole,
the movie lacks a lot in overall STORY content.

The LOOK of the film is outstanding... just beautiful, rich and detailed...
it looks "realer" than real life in many respects.

But, I just don't love the story... mainly because there just is not a lot THERE to love.

I'm wondering if the Merida Meet & Greet will (as time goes by)
be nearly as popular as the Rapunzel Meet & Greet.

Disney Animation's Tangled seems, oddly, to have a much, much richer and varied plot than Pixar's Brave.

We'll just have to see how the public takes to Merida vs. Rapunzel.
I agree 100%. The animation was typical Pixar awesome. The story, OTOH, was lacking. Just no omph.

Too bad because, like you, I thought the Merida character is very likeable and they could have built on her much more.

I loved the movie!
As the 'sometimes a little too controlling' mother of a strong-willed daughter, I felt this movie hit a little too close to home.
We shall see what my fate is in about ten years.

AGREE!!!

Princess and the Frog is a family favorite, even among my boys!! I always gasp when people say they have no interest in seeing it.

I agree! I love that movie. It has a lot of old school Disney mixed in with more modern Disney.

I'm a little worried about Brave. I was going to take my very strong-willed four year old. Is she going to like it?
