I've only done a split stay once. We got out before a snowstorm hit and added two days to our trip on the front end. We stayed at ASMovies for two nights and then moved to CBR for four (or five? ... can't remember) nights.

Since it's usually just me and my two girls (3 and 8 at the time but 6 and 11 now) it wasn't the easiest thing to do... moving our stuff. But, it was mostly pretty fun. I wouldn't intentionally do it again with the girls but if I was by myself or with just another adult I think it would be fun doing split stays. For me, with the girls it was a lot of work since I have to drag them with me when I bring stuff in and out from the car. Of course, I'd brought snacks, water and our own pillows and stuff so if you were flying and brought less stuff it would be less of a hassle. I guess you'd have to let them know with Magical Express and figure that part out. Lots of people on the DIS have it down smooth.

We did our first split stay this past January and found that it was soooo easy. We loved it so much that we are doing another one on our upcoming trip. At first I thought why in the world would anyone want to pack up and move to another resort right in the middle of their vacation. But once we did it (moved from BCV to SSR) ourselves, I understood. It is great to be able to stay in two resorts, especially if you can't decide which one to stay at in the first place . If you are doing a longer stay and you can't decide which resort to stay at (if it is between 2 resorts, I personally could not do a split with any more than that), I highly recommend it .

We just did a split with three resorts--and BWI and AKL were two of them. You have good taste!

I am not sure we'd do it again, but that is probably because we like the feeling of settling in to one resort for the length of our stay. There really was nothing annoying about changing resorts, except packing stuff up multiple times. That wasn't *too* bad, and if I'd done a better job packing I think it would have been even easier.

Anyway, aside from having to pack up a couple extra times, it was fine! Disney makes it very easy--they'll move your luggage for you. Both times we switched, we just packed up, had bell services take the bags to our new resort, went to a park, and in the late afternoon went to the new resort, checked in, got our luggage, and went to EMH, or whatever we had planned for the evening.

I haven't read all the responses so I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but one reason this worked okay for us is we only do room only stays. It can get a bit more tricky if you want to have the dining plan.

If you really can't decide and are going for long enough (at least 8 nights), I would do the split. You may love doing it that way--give it a try!

Aw.....FUL. You are homeless for most of the day. If you have Disney move your stuff, you won't get it unti later in the day. If you have refrigerated items, they will refrigerate them while your stuff is still at the first location, but while it is on the truck, it won't be.

We like to unpack and settle in until it is time to go home.

While I LOVE the concept of a split stay, I don't think it would work for us. DH likes to take a break, including a nap, every day. It would be very difficult to get him to agree to not getting a nap one day. I suppose it would be possible if we were planning a day offsite, which would make going back to the hotel less convenient anyways. We'll see. Maybe one day I'll suggest it and he'll think it's a great idea, but I doubt it.

My other deterrent is that even on our 9 night stay at AKL, we didn't really get to experience the resort to it's full extent. Part of that was due to the fact that we hadn't worked out our touring habits yet (DH's first trip and my first planned trip) but when we were at the resort we spent most of the time in our room. I would have to get better at taking advantage of the resort amenities before a split stay would make sense for us.

EDIT: I thought of one more reason. As of now it takes up to three nights for our son to adjust to a new sleeping environment. Even though moving between resorts would likely result in the same sleeping arrangements, it could still throw him off enough to make it an exhausting endeavor.

Dh and I did it this past Christmas. We did 2 nights YC and 3 nights Dolphin. We did not like it. We hated packing and unpacking and never really felt settled. DH said never again.
I am actually leaving in 3 days and staying the first night at the Dolphin before moving to the BC for 6 nights. I am only doing this because I have points for a free night at the Dolphin so it allowed me to add an extra day for free, and Dh will not be there for the first night so he does not have to deal with it.

I have been stalking this topic for months--- and have decided to do it! I am taking just my daughter (18) this August for 7n at POR and then 2 nights at BC. (trying to financially figure out a 3rd lol...) She will do her own packing.... and I made a 10am ADR for Cape May on our transfer day so I think we will take a taxi to the new resort.

We went to Cali last summer and had 3 hotels in 10 days which I just realized this week was a split stay lol (the last was in Anaheim )

I agree with little ones it would be more stressful or with a husband who is set in his ways ( mine could be a problem but he isn't invited! this trip)....

THERE is a question here:
Since we are taking a taxi to the new resort, they will still be able to put refridg items in cold storage for me, right? I know I can leave bags but wanted to double check the cold stuff....

The tip to plan activities around where you are staying was great advice... I am going to do Illuminations now when we are at the Beach Club instead of earlier in the trip and fighting the sea of people exiting Epcot in the front. THANK YOU!

I have done split stays for years. We would do Nick Hotel for 3 nights, then WDW for 5 or so nights, then off site for 6+ days to actually relax. We havent done Nick in years because my DS (16 now) grew out of it. but at the very least we do both onsite and off site. This year we went bonkers and I will let you know if it goes smooth sailed, or sink the ship.

CBR 3nights PORFQ 3nights POP 2nights Celebration Suites 7nights.

I am organizing our moves as far as what goes in and what stays in the car so I'll see how this works out with my kids being older (which doesnt mean better bc teenagers speak their own language

We're trying our first split stay on our next trip in January. Three nights at BLT and then 2 nights at BWV.

It'll be part of the kids surprise, they think we're only staying 3 nights, so when we pack up we'll head to the parks and tell them we have until 4 or so before we have to leave (either Epcot or HS so we can take the boat to BWV). From there I'll ask if anyone cares that I go to BW bakery for my favorite cheesecake brownie, and then we'll tell the kids that we're staying there for another 2 nights.

We're not the type to unpack at all, so I don't think the move will be a big deal for us. But I will be planning on packing two bags (one for each resort), or maybe the duffel bag for dirty clothes.

I don't know if split stays will be a common thing for us, but I'm excited to try it!

Add me to the list of loving split stays. We do it every time. The move is very easy and being able to experience different resorts is great. It also can be beneficial to on site transportation. We try to stay near MK for part of our trip and near Epcot for the other. At least some of those days we don't have to get on a bus or monorail.

Looking forward to another split stay this year.

We just started doing split stays on the last 3 times. We LOVE it!!!! Because my dream is to try them all once and decide who is the BEST!!! So far I love the Poly, my ds (10) says WL and dh also says Poly. This trip we are doing 5 days at Coronado and 5 days at Beach Club. We usually save the fancy ones for the 2 leg of the trip. Something to look forward too.

We've done them twice and had a great experience both times.

I personally wouldn't bother for a short trip, but if I can divide our stay so it's at least 3 nights or more at each resort, it almost feels like two trips in one.

Awesome Did my first one last fall and it just so happens we will have to do a mini one this coming November because we booked 3 nights at SSR, but decided to fly down a night early and so we're going to stay at POP. I find them to be pretty easy and a fun way to see some different places. In fact, DBF and I are headed to Seattle for vacation next week and I couldnt decide where to stay because 2 looked to great- so we're doing a split stay in Seattle
Places checked off the hotel list : Poly, Poly CL, SSR, BC, DI, AKL, OKW, GF, WL, CBR, POR, POP
