Friday Group Dinner Update

Hey everyone,

For those that weren't on chat last night, I called DLR about our Friday group dinner @ Steakhouse 55. Because of the size of the group, the reservation CM needed to contact the restaurant to confirm that it was available. While I didn't know about it during chat, I actually got a respsonse overnight last night:

Quote:
Hello Peter,

Thank you for your interest in dining with us at Steakhouse 55, however on the evening you have selected we are closed for a wine dinner. If we can help you with reservations for another night, please let us know.

Thank you,

Steakhouse 55 Team
SO to that!

Here are our remaining options:
  1. Try Napa Rose (@ GC)
  2. Try Catal (@ DTD)
  3. Try Carthay Circle (since the "good-bye" dinner will likely be fixed menu)
  4. Forget about eating as a group

I personally would pick Catal first, then Carthay, but would be OK with either of those choices. The reason I say Catal is because Kevin raves about it, and I trust his judgement when it comes to food. That plus we will get to experience Carthay the night before. However, if the group would prefer an additional meal at Carthay (plus allowing those that want it to get FP to World of Color for Friday night) I KNOW how good the food is there and I would be fine with that. Price-wise they are both very similar. So, if the group were to choose either one of these two...I would be fine with it!

However, while I'd love to try Napa Rose someday, I think that going there as a group of 17 is not in the spirit of that dining experience. If I was going to go there, I would prefer just to forget the group dinner and just eat there Ulana and myself, so I would actually pick Option 4 before choosing to go there.

What do you think? I will be curious to see if we can get as easy a consensus as we did on the original Steakhouse 55 choice.

As a reminder, here's the folks signed up:
Peter (skier_pete) and Ulana (ukeemom)
Rory (roryh22)

That's disappointing! I was looking forward to Steakhouse 55. I don't know enough about the other restaurants to have an opinion. We are fine with whatever the rest choose. Thanks for looking into this for us Pete.

My first choice would Catal over Carthay and I know we can't afford Napa. I only really say Catal though because this could be not only my first trip but only trip for a long, long time so personally I would rather experience more. But if it's Catal or Carthay we'll still be there!

I would probably choose Catal over Carthay as we will be eating there the night before even if it turns out to be a fixed menu/buffet.

I would probably prefer Carthay to get to order off the reg menu & get fast pass for WOC, but if the majority go with Catal that would be ok too.

Hi Pete et al,

Toni and I are going to excuse ourselves from going to the dinner. We spent yesterday looking at the funds we are going to have to spend on food (as well as other essentials like shopping....) and were quite depressed to realise that there isn't going to be as much as we thought .

Catal isn't on our list of "must do" places and we are going to be trying Carthay Circle as part of the tour so when we saw your post we thought we could probably have a snack that night and have a few dollars extra to spend earlier in the week at Mickey's of Glendale.

We are sure that you will all understand our logic of "If we can get something extra or really really cool" (as opposed to just cool) at Mickey's then we would like to do that instead.

Pete, it was really nice of you to go to all the work of organising the dinner reservations and Toni and I hope that you don't mind us ducking out now.

26 more sleeps till me and Toni get on that plane..........

No worries Christine! Don't feel bad at all. I really don't mind one way or the other who wants in or out of dinner. If everyone turned around and said "never mind" I wouldn't be bothered at all.

Ulana and I love good food and trying new restaurants, so for us, we definitely wanted to try ONE of the better restaurants at DLR on Friday. But I totally understand wanting to save that money. I am usually not a big shopper, but I too want to have some money in my pocket for MoG. (Though in general I'd rather spend $100 on a meal than on a souvenir - which you can tell from my waistline! )

Anyways, I'll take us down to 15:
Peter (skier_pete) and Ulana (ukeemom) - CATAL
Rory (roryh22) - CATAL
Christy (chropistopy) and Cheryl (cherylbug) - DON'T CARE
Angie (ymxbfalcon) - DON'T CARE
Kim (kgibbler20) and Mary Ann - CATAL
Melanie (Disneygrl36) and Eric - CARTHAY CIRCLE
Lori (BriarRosie)
Lisa (Lee Disney) and John - DON'T CARE
Matt (Darthvader92) and Matt's Mom

5 for Catal
5 for don't care
2 for Carthay
0 for Napa Rose
2 for "Forget It!"
3 no votes yet

Based on this to date, I am going to call about Catal tomorrow. (Melanie, I know you'd like that FP, so if you want to drop out, please feel free.)

Darn, I wish I had known about that wine dinner. I did one there 5 years ago and it was amazing. Oh well, that's ok.

I'm not sure yet if I want to go to Catal. I don't need to bow out just yet, but I want to keep my options open.

Cheers Pete, unfortunately we are big on shopping rather than eating (well actually I'm big on both to be honest ) but I haven't been able to save as much as I hoped - maybe we will catch you guys somewhere later on in our wandering around. Actually just look in the shops on Main Street, thats probably where we'll be.
