If booked on cruise, do you lose 10% discount if change after 14 days??
We booked a tour for 2013 while cruising on the Fantasy last week. I understood that we have 14 days in which to make ANY changes without penalty or obligating our deposit, that is, we could get a full refund. What I wasn't quite clear about was if we could, like with a cruise booking, make changes to booking (dates/location) later and keep the 10% discount.
I called at closing time today and don't think person on phone understood my question. He kept saying that I had to cancel within 14 days or lose my deposit, which I fully understand and have no problem with. Does anyone know how this works for ABD and "onboard booking" discount? Thanks!

You're right -- it's only been available for a few weeks. I was hoping that someone else may have gotten a definitive answer, as I am probably not the only one who was not prepared to book. While 14 days sounds like a long time, it really isn't to figure out and arrange a (for us) European vacation.
Fingers crossed we can keep the discount even if changed after the 14-day window.

I don't know about the 10% discount, but in general you are not allowed to change your travel date or selected itinerary after 14 days. This is from the Terms and Conditions in the ABD travel agreement that you must sign and return within 14 days of booking:

Per ABD policy, you can change anything about your Adventure (destination, date, number of people traveling etc.) within the first 14 days.
After 14 days, changing your Adventure or dates etc is viewed as a cancellation and you are subject to the cancellation terms and conditions.. In most situations (but not all), forfeiting your deposit will be a higher cost than the benefit of a 10% discount. Otherwise, this would would be taken on a case by case basis and the determining factor would be how this change effected both travel dates...meaning the date you are leaving and the date you are looking to join. So...to answer your question, there is no hard and fast rule about this. Disney Cruise Line is much more lenient in regards to changing the details of your cruise. One of the many differences between DCL and ABD is that Disney owns the ships. ABD contracts with vendors for space and time and is obligated to fulfill those contracts or cancel a departure date by a certain time. Changing even one guest can make a difference in that equation and that would be one of the biggest determining factors. Hope that helps. |

Well, we had booked for Ireland, but after talking to the ABD folks we have cancelled. Just too much uncertainty about our dates at the moment. Beyond 14 days we would NOT have been able to reschedule without losing both our deposit and the 10% discount.
I still think that eventually we'll do one of these trips, but try to coordinate it with the release of new dates/itineraries, where we can take advantage of the initial lower tier pricing.
