A Plan is only the basis for change – Day 10: TL and a Posh Meal

Day 10 (09 Aug 12) – TL and a Posh Meal

Trip Intro/Index here.

Another early-ish start for us today. After breakfast in the room, we were out and parked up at Typhoon Lagoon just after 9:00. We had decided to travel light today, so had only towels, a beach bag and the insulated bag of water with us so no need for a locker. We established base camp under some trees near to Typhoon Tillys, then wasted no time in getting over to Crush’n’Gusher.

We were disappointed to find that they had stopped using the rafts for three people (not sure why), and then our single rider could only use one of the three slides. We also felt that the ride was slower than we had previously experienced – certainly the jets of water seemed less fierce than our last visit ion 2010. We managed a couple of goes before the queues built up, then wandered over to the other side of the park where we enjoyed several goes on the three raft rides.

A wander back to base camp for some refreshment and more sun screen, where we found we had passed two hours already!! A few minutes rest on the beds, and we joined the fairly quiet Castaway Creek for a float around the park. On exiting, Alex and myself than tried the Storm Slides, and I had a go on Humunga Kowabunga. Joanne and Alex then visited the Shark Reef whilst I returned to base for a rest.

Thirty minutes later, our two budding Cousteau’s returned having enjoyed the Shark Reef. Finding it was now gone one o’clock, we paid a visit to Typhoon Tilly’s for lunch. Shrimp and fries, a chicken wrap and pulled pork sandwich (both with apple slices), plus a cookie and two fruit cups used up three CS credits.

We then had a much more congested lap of Castaway Creek before returning to base for the final time to dry off, leaving TL at 3:00 on the dot. The park was definitely quieter than our previous visit in 2010 – this year, with the exception of Shark Reef, we waited only 10 minutes maximum on each ride and got quite a lot done.

So, a few hours chilling out back at the room before leaving for our 7:50 dinner reservation at Narcoossee’s via Walgreens to drop off the waterproof camera we had used at DC and TL. We arrived early at the GF, and had 15 minutes or so wandering around the shops and grounds, before making our way over to Narcoosees just as the heavens opened. We checked in about 10 minutes early, and stood on the balcony watching the rain and brewing storm.

Our buzzer went off at 7:50 precisely, and we were shown to our table where our server Tom introduced himself and took drinks orders. He shortly returned with drinks and a loaf of sourdough bread and butter – very moreish. For mains, Alex ordered filet mignon and lobster tail, Joanne the full lobster, and the filet mignon for myself – all delicious. I washed mine down with a Sam Adams Summer beer.

For dessert, Joanne and myself shared the cheese plate and the pecan pie, whilst Alex had ice cream (one large portion there). This was an extremely relaxed meal, and Tom certainly made us extremely welcome, and was very attentive throughout the meal. The total would have been $243, but we used 2TS credits from our DDP.

Following the meal, we were hoping to catch Wishes from the balcony outside. We moved outside at around 9:40 just in time to see The Magic, The Memories and You display on the castle. The rain had stopped, but there was lightning moving across towards MK, with some spectacular flashes. However, this didn’t bode well for Wishes, although the staff in Narcoossee’s told us they had not been informed of the show being cancelled. At 10:15, we were told Wishes was being further delayed, but a few further spectacular lightning bolts told us that Wishes wouldn’t be happening tonight
– the only disappointment of an otherwise relaxed and pleasant evening.

We all really enjoyed our meal, but again, doubt if we would have visited if we didn't have the free DDP.

This year was really the first time that DD (Alex) had been more adventurous at Disney - I blame it on our visit to Maine last year where she got her taste for lobster and steak - so we enjoyed eating at quite a few new places for us. There is hope for all those who have kids who are fussy eaters
