RFID door locks

We are staying at the beach club villas and they changed our door with new rfid locks this morning while we were at the park. Our key cards were a multi colored blue color. They already have the chips in then as we didn't have to get new cards to use the new locks. They are very nice as you don't have to take them out of a plastic holder to open the door.

Looks like they are moving forward with this next phase. This is how the door locks are on the Disney Dream and it works fine. I kept my key in my lanyard and it was nice not having to take it out. We are getting one step closer to the new fastpass system.

lets hope not. This system doesn't work well at BLT as guest leave the gates open and people just piggyback with others as they enter and exit. Unless there is a guard still at the gates the abuse will increase not decrease here.

The front desk said that the beach club is the first resort that is converting. They started last week and have the 5th floor and part if the 4th floor done.

That's great news, I really liked these locks on the Dream. Very handy if you're holding a little one, or your hands are full.

RFID is becoming more frequent in all aspects of our lives. Some school systems are putting these in the ID cards for children to track them. They are already in dogs and cats. Guess where this is heading......

RFID uses a Radio Frequency ID chip to identify you. The chip is in your room key and all you do is hold it up to the lock to open it.

Disney it going to be using RFID everywhere for different things. They are testing RFID in drink mugs to control how many times you can refill it.

I would think your actual cC number is never stored on a KTTW old school or RFID , just something behind the scenes to move charges from your rooms account to your CC. (it should be useless outside Disney)
But it does seem too easy for someone to spoof an RFID to use elsewhere on property or get into your room.

Eventually yes, and probably every deluxe and DVC pool on property eventually and even bus stops.

As far as guests piggybacking, I really don't understand that, simply close the gate if they don't have a key, the one you let in without a key might be a flasher. I am sure Disney will get the word out you need your key to access the pool just as they have at SAB for wristbands, so why would anyone other than a pool crasher show up without theirs.

I agree with you except for the bus stops. The buses are for everyone, so no need to have RFID there. Those who stay off site are allowed to use the buses, so they would have no key. Disney doesn't want to limit access to their resorts, because that would limit revenue for things like restaurants etc.

Not to limit access but to track queues. The RFID chips could be used to identify the number of guests waiting at a given bus stop and even guest wait times via the unique identifiers.

They couldn't tell how many people are waiting for an Epcot bus (for instance) but if your key's unique identifier has been registered at a bus stop for 30 minutes, they know you have been waiting that long.
