I have $1200 for a solo trip...help!!!

I have $1200 for a solo trip...help!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a whopping $1200 to spend on a solo trip to wherever I want. I thought about Vegas but decided not to...it's pretty much a glorified atlantic city. I've taken my kids to disney world four times within the past two years. I have ONE weekend to go on this solo trip by myself. Im bored with disney world so I need something diffrent.

Im thinking about Disney Land!! I've never been to the west coast. Im not really into Hollywood and all that jazz...it just doesnt appeal to me much. I do get a lil excited thinking about disneyland though.

I have $1200 to go towards this trip...I've budgeted $400 for airfare although i see i can get a roundtrip flight for a little under $350. Ill need a one day park hopper. Im pretty sure i can see and do everything in disneyland on that Saturday....and ill be returning home to my kiddos on that Sunday.

How much do you think this is going to cost ?

I live in NYC and i dont have a license so i dont drive. Ill need a motel within walking distance with an airport shuttle if possible.

This trip will be March 1st -March 3rd. So two nights..The cheapest flight leaves at like 9:30 p.m. so Im not able to make the most out of Friday. Ill be checking into the hotel and going straight to bed which will be in the middle of the night...oh boy

Im thinking of taking my 7 year old dd with me for the weekend trip. She always complains that i never spend enough time with her because im always consumed with my disabled ds . I think she'll love spending one on one time with me like that..even if its just for a day in a park .

I can get rountrip flights for under $800 for the both of us which leaves lodging....and tickets ...a 1 day parkhopper for both of us.

I think ds will cry and miss us terribly if we leave him behind though He's not used to spending any time away from us . If i leave dd behind with him he'll have her to play with and comfort him atleast. The last time i was sick and they spent the night at my mom's house . DD reported that he cried all day and night saying he missed mommy over and over again. I think he'll really freak out if were both gone for the weekend.

I may extend the trip an extra day so we might be able to do the parks for two days if i bring dd along. If i dont bring dd than one day will be fine for me to tour the parks without kids dragging me down .

What's the best way to go about this? Should I bring dd or just go it alone?

One day isn't really enough to do both parks. There are as many rides as in all 4 parks at WDW. Depending on what time your flight leaves Sunday you may want to try 2 day park hopper.

For two people the 1200 will be pushing it
Here are rough costs
Air 350 - 700
Tickets 125-250 one day
Hotel 175
Shuttle 30 - 55
Food ??

I haven't checked schedules or anything, but if you want something different, have you thought about a Disney Cruise? It's wonderful and you could get one of the 3 day voyages. Airfare would be cheaper as well, since you'd leave from Florida.

As for bringing your DD, I say do it. You stated that she feels that she doesn't get enough solo time with you. I completely understand why, but doesn't she deserve something special all her own? Yes, your DS will be upset, but eventually he will have to learn to live without you (at least temporarily). This will (in the long run) be a good experience for him, and it's something that will happen sooner or later (you being gone for a few days).

I totally agree with helenb...take your DD. This would be a very special trip for her and it sounds like she could use some one on one time with mom.

As far as only one day in the park....that's an awfully long way to go for only ONE day!! Like 3Minnies1Mickey said, there are as many rides at the 2 parks here as there are in all 4 parks at DW. I think you'll be really sad coming all this way and only getting 1 day in the park. Can you at least take a late flight home on Sunday to have 2 days to experience the parks?

There are quite a few hotels across the street from the park with reasonable rates. Many you can find for under $100 a night. $1200.00 for 2 people is going to be tough, but if there is any way you can swing it, my vote is to take your DD and enjoy 2 days at the parks. The board has lots of great tips for doing Disneyland on a budget. When are you planning on going?

Ok so a quick search on Expedia and I found flight from JFK-lax landing at 9:30am friday or Saturday, leaving at 4:30pm Sunday and Anaheim plaza hotel for $727 for 2 ppl. Then your 2 day hopper tickets would be $388. Then transportation to and from LAX is about $61. Leaving you $24 for food. That is doable if you bring your own water bottle, snacks and fixings for sandwiches and share dinner. If you want a run down on just you, I can do that too.

Please think about this- you want to fly across the country for 2 days? Won't the time change and the jet lag affect you? I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself I would be so tired. The cruise from Florida sounds more reasonable... I get that you need a break, but I worry this will take more out of you than recharge you...

THIS!!!

Totally understand wanting to do something different than Disney World but I would really think HARD about a cross country flight for a day (or maybe 2). I have done this as I am in the northwest and used to have to fly to east coast for work and let me tell you it is EXAUSTING!!!

I don't know anything about the 3 day cruises but if it was my vacation I would lean toward it as the flight times are SOOOOOOO much better!

Unless your daughter is a complete trouper or you can extend the trip and the budget I would do it solo or do something else all together.

A long flight
3 hour time difference
a late night arrival
one rushed day in the park

Sounds like a cranky kid and maybe a cranky grown up as well.

I know it is not Disney but a nice weekend getaway for a mom and daughter might be Sanibel Island, Florida. It is a really "old florida", slow paced, fun place. It is one of the best places in the world for shelling on the beach and it is tons of fun. We like this place http://www.mitchellssandcastles.com/. I also like Tampa and Busch Gardens for a quick getaway.

Hope you have a great trip whatever you decide.

I entered your dates into Spirit Airlines with included hotel and got $670 round trip, with you staying at the Fairfield Inn by Marriot, which is right across the street.

PoohDoll,

I would not fly to the west coast for just the weekend. I don't think you will get any rest. I have two sp nd daughters, so I know how exciting it is to have a weekend to yourself and do something you want. I would take your dd and go somewhere were you can have a fun, relaxing weekend. Your dd needs time with you without the distraction of disabliities. As much as we try, the issues are always take center stage, as they should. You may not have this chance again for awhile and your dd is growning up. Grab the chance to have a special time with her and a relaxing weekend for you.

I don't mean to be a downer, but you won't get to see everything at Disneyland in one day. You REALLY won't be able to see all of Disneyland AND California Adventure in one day. It may not seem like it, but there are as many attractions in DLR's two parks as there are in WDW's four. Maybe even more.

I'm with everyone else. I think flying here from New York for just the weekend might not be the best idea, especially since you've never been to California. I think you should save your time and money for when you have more time to spend! Hope everything works out.
