Microwave access on Disney Dream - UPDATE Page 5: We're back!

I assume this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything when I did a search.

We are getting ready for our 5 night Disney Dream cruise and I am wondering if there is any way to gain access to a microwave while onboard the ship? My youngest DD has an oral sensory processing disorder and only eats a very few number of foods. About the only thing I can count on her to eat consistently is Kraft macaroni & cheese. It CANNOT be any other kind (I've tried...trust me!)

Originally I thought we would be ok because she will eat a few other things as well. However, recently she has started to reject some of the foods that used to be acceptable to the point where I may need to be able to make her some mac & cheese while on board just to get her to eat something! Vacation is not exactly the time or place to try out new foods with a kiddo with sensory issues!

I thought it would be ok to bring my little travel hot pot and just make it in our stateroom for her, but I was just re-reading the "what not to bring" list and it includes any kind of cooking device.

I don't want to break the rules, but I also need to be able to provide something for her to eat! Does anyone know if there is anywhere onboard where I would be allowed to warm up some mac & cheese?

Thanks!

Sorry to say, but there are no microwaves anywhere on the ships (not even in the kitchens.)

My daughter has "mouthfeel" issues with foods, so I can understand. Disney will bend over backwards to try to accommodate your daughter's needs, and hopefully, she will find something that she can handle.

BTW, the mac & cheese on board is all Mickey shaped, so not sure if that is a bonus or more of a problem.

Good luck.

Workaround?

Maybe try a little workaround....like make a bunch of mac/cheese right before you leave and store it in serving size portions in individual waterproof sandwich bags (and bring it in your carryon, not checked luggage!).

Once onboard, secure an empty carafe and fill it halfway with some hot water from the self-serve beverage station. Put one sandwich bag in the carafe and let the hot water heat it to serving temperature.

It'd probably be easier if she ate it in the room or on the pool deck rather then bringing it to the MDR, but at least she'd have it.

Don't try to sneak anything on, they do check. My mom was told in an email from DCL that she could bring a hand held steamer for her dress clothes. Once on board they were told they needed to go to guest services because of a problem with their luggage. The people on board disagreed with whoever sent her the email and the steamer was confiscated until the end of the cruise.

Items must be pre-packaged, unopened and cannot require any food prep from the kitchen. Coolers filled with personal items (e.g. soda, chips, candy, etc.) may not be brought on board. Homemade items or pre-cooked items purchased on the way to the ship will not be allowed to be brought aboard. Also, open bags or containers of snack items should not be brought aboard. All items will need to be stored in the stateroom; the ship's storage and/or refrigeration are not available to use.

Jackson has always been a fussy mac and cheese person. He loves Kraft (ick) and he loved the mac and cheese on the cruise.

No worries, I won't be breaking any of DCL's "rules". I don't want/need the added stress of worrying about getting "caught" while on vacation

So maybe I should ask a follow up question. DD may or may not eat chicken nuggets. Does anyone know if the ones on board are chicken strips or chicken nuggets? It makes a difference, I promise

Outside of mac & cheese and chicken nuggets, she pretty much eats dry cereal (Cheerios or Kix), cheese, strawberry yogurt (no actual pieces of strawberry in it) or goldfish crackers. Will I have access to these kinds of foods while on the ship, or should I plan to bring my own?

Thanks!

Will your child eat kraft easy mac? I bet you can get them to bring you some super hot water to make the easy mac. Test it at home first but I am willing to bet if the water in the carafe is hot enough - you may be able to cook the pasta without a microwave - it may just have to steep in the carafe for 10 minutes or so.

They are more like chicken strips - not sure if nuggets are avail anywhere. There is cheese on board but am not sure exactly what kind (cheddar etc) - pretty sure there is cheerios as well. You can bring on the yogurt, goldfish, cereal etc. As long as the packages are sealed when you bring them on.

They have both chicken strips and nuggets. Let me see if I can find a picture for you.

I believe they only have Kellogg's cereals and I don't think they have Goldfish. You can bring your own pre-packaged Cheerios, Kix and Goldfish, as long as they're not opened.

You can get hot water (for tea) at the drink stations, but I'm not sure if it would work with the Easy Mac.

No Cheerios or Kix, they serve Kellogg's cereals on board.
There is cheese on the buffet at lunch, not sure about breakfast. You can also order a cheese plate from room service.
No Goldfish crackers, you will need to bring your own.

Hot water can be found at the drink station on the pool deck out.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I was planning to bring some "snacks" for her anyway, but maybe I'll just plan to bring a bit more than I originally had. Some days it will probably end up being Cheerios for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but oh well.

She also eats ice cream (as long as it is plain vanilla) so I'm sure she won't starve

We're going to be on vacation and I learned a long time ago to pick my food battles with her very carefully...

Plenty of vanilla ice cream on the Dream - hand scooped in the restaurants and soft serve on the pool deck.
