Just got caught up Jane. It has been so very busy around here lately.
I am enjoying your TR so much and love the pictures. And you first video....it brought tears to my eyes.

Have to think on your last "Where in the world is this" picture.

I was excited today to read that they are serving drinks in SOG's lobby.

Just caught up on you TR!! Seems like we were there around the same time. We went from May 3rd to the 11th and stayed the first 4 days at Shades. I loved your honest reviews of the restaurants there and couldn't agree with you more. Unfortunately my whole experience with shades wasn't great this trip and I was much happier once we switched to POP. If only the rooms were the same size!

We also want to make it to NASA but it seems like such a trek from Disney. We made it out to legoland this year and it was a nice change and great for my 5 year old daughter. Also did Busch Gardens again and all I say is glad for the free tickets

Sorry to make you cry, but I know it is was tears of joy. I think I will have to try that SOG drink, even though I am not really a drinker. It sounds ... interesting.

Chapter Eight

Ok, so we are planning to try and make opening ceremony at Magic Kingdom for Extra Magic Hour … again. Leo wanted to walk over to the Poly and catch the monorail from there, which is quicker. But my foot has been bothering me a lot since we got here (trip), so I decided to hop the bus to the TTC and catch the express monorail from there.

So Leo took the video camera and headed out by about 7-ish while I waited for the first bus at 7:30.

Of course, things didn’t work out as planned … as has been the norm for this trip. When I got to the TTC, the express monorail was not working (trip) and the ferry didn’t start running until 8:30 (trip).

Will I miss the opening ceremony again?

As I sat on the resort monorail waiting to finally get to MK, Leo called and said he had arrived there a while ago and was wondering what was taking me so long. He walks and gets there about 30 minutes before me. Derned foot!!

By the time I got there, the ceremony was beginning as I made my way down the ramp. Never realized how long that walk is from the monorail to the gates. Shoot! Shoot! Shooooot!!!

Well, at least I made it before my main man Mickey made his entrance. Better than missing the entire thing…I suppose.

I truly think everyone who visits the World should see this opening ceremony at least once in their trip. Especially if you can go on your very first day. No better way to start your Disney stay.

Once in the park, Leo headed off on his penny hunt while I wandered the park reshooting all the video footage that was lost. Not sour about that in the least. I spent most of the EMH reshooting.

We meant to get over to the “new section” over where Toontown use to be, but never did make it over there. But before EMH was over, we did manage to hop on … and you will be soooooo surprised … Pirates and Haunted Mansion.

Anyway, we spent the morning at MK, ate lunch and then headed off to Epcot to do some more reshooting there as well. This was suppose to be our “alone day," but we ended up together for most of the day anyway. Guess he just likes me.

I didn’t really want to leave MK because the crowd level was pretty low, for a change and for the first time this whole trip. Even the line at the Peter Pan ride was nearly non-existent, which never happens.

However, when we got to Epcot … found ‘em! The place was jam packed. I have never seen Epcot so crowded and so freakin’ hot! Is this really May or is it August???

The line for Spaceship Earth was wound round and round and up the side of the building, so we passed that and headed to Soarin’ to grab some fast passed. We knew we would not be able to go stand by, and we were right. The line was 120 minutes long and our fast passes came out for 8 p.m. Really? And, again, there was an actual 45 minute line for Living with the Land. Unbelievable.

What the heck is going on this year? The first couple weeks of May have always been perfect weather and reasonable crowd levels and we have been going this time of year for years. We have to find a better time to go. Maybe October?

Anyway, on our way back through the central hub, we noticed the line for Spaceship Earth was down quite a bit. It looked like it was just around one bend and up the ramp, so we hopped in line. Ummmmm…we didn’t notice that that one “bend” camouflaged the fact that the line actually snaked up the side of the building twice before getting back to the ramp. (trip) Luckily, the line moved constantly s it didn’t take too excessively long.

After SSE and seeing our mugs on the jumbo tron, we headed out to World Showcase. Which, by the way, was absolutely jam-packed too. Have you ever seen this level of crowd before? I mean, other than the summer or New Years. This is in Great Britain.

As we wandered shoulder-to-shoulder with the thousands, we visited the shops in the various countries. When we hit Japan, I wanted to look for something for my grandson. I had not found anything for him yet. And since he loves Pokémon, I thought it would be nice to get him an actual Pokémon from Japan. A simple request, right? Riiiiiiiiight. All the Pokémon items we found were “made in China.”

Really? Pokémon is a Japanese creation and we are in the Japan pavilion. I mean, I understand if it is being sold at Toys-r-us and being made in China, but to be in the Japan pavilion?? I thought all the stuff here is suppose to be authentic Japanese. Maybe it’s just me, but I found that strange. And the only Pokémon things we did find that were actually made in Japan were behind glass and definitely out of our price range for a six-year-old (I know, Tanisha, I know … he is now seven, but he was six then).

After spending the day fighting the heat and the crowds, I decided to head out while Leo stayed for another concert and Illuminations. I was going to catch the boat from Epcot to Hollywood Studios to go take night pics of Big Blue … without Big Ugly in front of it. Yes, that was a year ago, but I am still upset about it.

However, I changed my mind because I didn’t think I could make it before the park closed. So I just headed home to rest my foot. It didn’t do too bad today and didn’t start hurting until in my way home.

Once back at Shades, I took my leftovers down the hall to the microwave to heat them up for dinner. Included in these leftovers was one last very yummy buttermilk biscuit from the Cracker Barrel. Mmmmm, mmm. However, on my way back to my room, the yummy biscuit (the one and only yummy biscuit left) slipped off my container, bounced a couple times and rolled away down the hall. Yes, my yummy biscuit (the one and only yummy biscuit left) literally rolled all the way down the hall and landed with a flop in the corner.

For some reason, I found this to be extremely funny (or, as my friend Keonni would say … hilarious!) and laughed so hard I was crying. Yep, all by myself, standing in a hotel hallway, watching a bouncing, rolling biscuit and laughing like a crazy woman.

But when it finally hit me that this was the one and only yummy biscuit left, the laughter came to an abrupt stop. Dang!!!

By the time I finished chasing biscuits and eating dinner, Leo arrived back home.

I don’t know if I mentioned it already (and I’m too lazy to go back and check), but I did more video than still camera shooting this trip. Leo bought a new little video camera last Black Friday and I wanted to create some “day at the parks” videos for each park so I can watch them when I get my Disney withdrawal and need a quick fix.

That was the plan, anyway. I found out, however, I should really stick with still photography. Not so good with the video camera. Plus, I can’t figure out how to splice all my shots together to create one video.

Anyway, I finally downloaded some of the videos to Photobucket so I can post them here.

Here are a few to start. And I will start with the best video shoot of the trip…and it’s Leo’s masterpiece. Click on the pic to see video

Most of them are of Leo being goofy. Not Goofy with a capital G. Goofy with a little g.

And here's one to get this song stuck in your head:

We did our vow renewal there (on the 5th) and our planner was terrible. On top of that I shipped something to them and had tracking on it. It was delivered two days before we got there, but they couldn't find it until our last day there, which made it pointless to even have by then, as I need it two days prior. I was told many times that 'someone would call me' about it and of course they never did. So basically my issue was customer service.....which I know can be very hit or miss regarding military installations.

Legoland was good. My daughter is 5 and she was able to go on every ride. The wooden coaster scared her a bit, but she loved the other ones. When we went there were no lines for anything and we walked straight on the whole time. I read somewhere that the park is aimed at 12 and under, so it's nice to go somewhere that they can do everything, and don't have to sit and watch the adults ride stuff. I'm not sure if your near a base, but our travel office (ITT) had discount tickets. They weren't too much lower, but every bit helps.

*forgot to mention earlier, I thought it was quite busy too. We've been in August (NEVER AGAIN) and the crowds were definitely similar. Even the nightime magic hours were busy. We normally go the last week in Nov. Right after thanksgiving and it's much better crowd wise. I've heard Sept. after school starts can be a ghost town.

Oh goodness....I have to admit that I was laughing right along with you about the biscuit rolling off the plate and along the floor. It's a shame that you dropped it though 'cause Cracker Barrel biscuits are THE best!

Okay, since nobody seems to want to guess on your latest where in the world picture, I guess I'll take a crack at it. I'm almost ashamed to post it 'cause I know nothing about Star Wars and it 's going to sound stupid no matter how I word it. Is that the spaceship/craft thingy that R2D2 is in when you go through the queue of Star Tours?

**Edited to add: Once you stop laughing you can tell me I'm wrong and post another "where in the world" picture so I have the possibility of redeeming myself.

Right?? I was so disappoointed with the crowd levels this year. I mean, we were at Disney, so I loved every minute of it, but was disappointed that we didn't have the relaxed pace we normally have. I sure do hope Sept. is a ghost town. We are planning our 2013 trip for Sept./Oct. I just have to do more research since I heard they offer free dining in Sept and that can affect the levels.

AHA!!! I finally stumped you! Now, get ready. You are going to say "well, DUH" when you hear this: It is actually a view of one of the monorail tires looking up from underneath.
