LiveStreaming DCL wedding?

HI Everyone.

It feels so odd to be making my first post in this forum. Dream come true style.

My fiance and I are hoping to get married in a Disney Cruise Ceremony in January 2014.

The thing is that my mom is homebound. She is in a motorized wheelchair and requires the help of a nurse's aid and the use of a dialysis clinic every other day. Due to this, she can't leave her home in Eugene, Oregon, and I've looked and looked and looked as to how to make this happen.

My DF and I are planning to have a civil ceremony in Eugene (since we can't do it all in one shebang on the cruise), so she can participate, but I'd still love her to be able to see the ceremony on the cruise as well. Either by livestreaming with a Wifi hotspot <like clear?> or with Disney wifi.

What I wanted to know is, has anyone else done anything like this? Was there any Disney policy against it?

I'm trying to figure out if I want to go through DFTW or a cruise agent, so I haven't made any final arrangements and I don't have anyone to call just yet. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar situation?

-Tina

Not sure about Castaway Cay, but on ship.....internet is waaaaayy slow. I don't think it would be possible. It would just be a delayed/skipping/freezing ceremony.

Using a cell phone would be expensive depending on Carrier and coverage.

It might work if you did it on an Alaskan Cruise and did your ceremony while at port. Then you could use a cell phone.

Another option would be to do your ceremony at Disney and then do a DCL honeymoon.

Chrissy - I had the same question. Does DCL allow someone to Video tape the wedding? Since it seems like WiFi would not work could I video tape and then share with Family that could not attend.

I don't see why you would not be able to video the wedding. And that would be another option for OP also. Have someone video and then show it at the home reception, that would be nice. Several brides have taken their own photographers(guests).

Good idea. I think we will do that since we are having a reception here in Virginia for people to come to. Thanks.

I noticed that there are a lot of people talking about bringing their own photographers on the cruise. Is the third party photographer that Disney uses not good?

This post grabbed my attention. My fiance and I met through online gaming via PS3 and most of our friends are on the PS3 and were trying to talk us into livestreaming the ceremony. However, even when skyping with family at the ports, the internet is extremely slow! I think video taping and then posting it once you get home would be the best option.

As for the photography question, there are mixed reviews on whether to use Disney's third party contract or bringing one aboard. In order to get the CD with all of your pictures from Images (the Disney photographers) you have to pay the top notch price - 1000. Even then, you only get a photographer for like an hour, any more hours cost extra.

We booked a Florida photographer (Ashley Jane Photography) on the cruise who agreed to cover our wedding in exchange for the cruise fare. We are getting her for the entire day, bride/groom prep, ceremony, reception and dinner. Plus another photoshoot on Castaway Cay (even though we are having an onboard wedding) and a boudoir shoot ( as a wedding gift to my fiance). We are also booked on a 7 day cruise so the fare was a bit pricey, but photography is extremely important to us, so we believe it is worth it.

Additionally, when I researched Images to try to see some wedding photography on their website, it was a completely blank page. They specialize in backdrop photography (the type you see at the mall with fake landscapes and poses). I have seen some examples from other brides and I think it all depends on what photographer you get (and it is nearly impossible to request one). We just did not want to risk it.

This was all extremely helpful! Thank you!

And XxsmortzxX - I actually work in the Game industry, so posts like this super-squishy-warm my heart.

We video chat with our families regularly, and our house has full wifi for all of our devices, so it's a little bit odd when we go out in the "real world" to realize that super fast internet isn't the norm. (for us, it's like the requirement!)

How exciting to be a part of that industry!!! So jealous! We actually just updated our internet, but for some reason they had to shut it off for a day in order to upgrade it... (Makes no sense to us) However, it was as if time traveling. We kept going 'oh... yea... we need wifi to do this.'

We are having a lot of little video game touches throughout our wedding. So we're super psyched about that

The only time we've had great internet while cruising was on the California Coastal Cruise aboard the Wonder. We could hook up to Panera Breads/Starbucks at the ports. It was still slow, but at least it worked....

On second thought! I figured I would post this here so everyone might see it. Besides video taping the actual ceremony with music and guests and pretty, sparkly dresses, I believe my fiance and I talked through a way to livestream part of our wedding - the legal ceremony in port. The wifi the port usually offers is way faster and even with 4g skype on my cell phone gets a good connection while I'm on the ship and its docked in the port. With this in mind, I am going to investigate some video cameras that have the livestreaming function with wifi.
