Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom

Hi All!

Can someone please explain what this is? I've seen a couple posts on here about this, but for some reason I've never heard of it up until now! Is it new? Is it something anyone can play? Will by DD8 like it?

TIA

From a different thread:

Quote:
Try a couple of the following sites:

http://disneysorcerers.com/blog/
http://sorcerersofthemk.com/
https://sites.google.com/site/sorcerersguide/

High Level:
Hades has recruited 8 villains to help collect the Crystal of the Magic Kingdom, Merlin needs help to stop him.

Enter YOU!

You must defeat all 8 villains:
Main Street U.S.A. - Cruella DeVil
Frontierland - Dr. Facilier & Governor Ratcliffe
Adventureland - Jafar, Scar & Yzma
Fantasyland - Ursula & Maleficient

You will fight the villains in a random order, with the FINAL villain being Chernabog (in Frontierland).

Each land has 5 portals, you must use the map provided when you sign up to track your assignments and to find the next portal.

Once you figure out what land you are in, and you find your first portal then the following will happen:

Portal 1 - Introduced to villain (no additional cards are needed)
Portal 2/3 - Depending of the villain, the following 2 portals are interchangable, 1 you need to play a spell card and the other you need to play a Sorcerer's Crest (back side of the spell card)
Portal 4 - Face the villain with 2 attacks; you can either play the same card twice or play a different card for the different attacks.

Then you are told which land/portal to visit next.

The FINAL battle (Hades/Chernabog) is different, and will not follow the same 4 portal set up at the others.

So how does it work?

When you sign up, you are given a key and 5 spell cards. The key is tagged with the park ticket you used to get it (so make sure you know what key goes with what ticket). Even if your ticket expires, you still have to keep it with the key to continue playing the same game.

The key is equipped with an RFID chip. So when you wave the key in front of the key box, it will read that specific game. Since the key is read from the chip, you can keep the key in your wallet and just wave your wallet in front of the key box.

The spell cards are broked down a handful of different ways. Rarity (Star, Moon, Planet, Lightning Bolt); spell type (Hero, Warrior, Princess, etc); attack type (Charming, Wishful, Energy, etc), and they continue different levels of attack, boost, & shield. At this point in time... just ignore all of that (but visit the links above to learn more).

To play a spell card, stand on the Sorcerer's image on the ground and hold the card in front of you. There are 2-3 cameras at each portal that will take an image of the card you're holding and the appropriate attack will show on the screen.

Notes about holding cards: keep them steady in one spot and do not swing them around. If the camera does not read them, move them slowly up/down or left/right so the camera will find them. You typically have 3 chances to play a card, but if the camera never picks it up, your time at the portal will end and you will have to move on to the next portal.

Sometimes the cameras get moved or stop working, so there's nothing you can do if it doesn't read your card. But more commonly, people hold the cards in the wrong spot. I take a look at where the cameras are pointing and try to estimate the best location to hold the card. The portals with 3 cameras are usually the easiest, hopefully there are plans to increase the cameras at some of the portals.

Tips for your spell cards:

You can play multiple cards an attack, but sometimes the camera doesn't read all of them together. I can succesfully play 3 Incredibles together, but outside of them, I usually only pair 2 cards together at a time.

The more often you play a card, the stronger it becomes. You will know when your card has "powered up" because the animation on the screen will change.

Leveling Up:

After you have defeated all 8 villains, and the FINAL battle, you are eligble to get 5 more cards and you "level up." Everyone starts at Easy, then levels up to Medium then Hard. As you can imagine, each level gets more difficult.

EASY: All cards defeat all villians
MEDIUM: Start playing with strategy and matching appropriate cards to the villian
HARD: Now those Attack/Shield/Boost numbers mean something

Unfortunately, Medium and Hard were becoming bothersome for the game. Since players were unaware which cards to play, and didn't know their Attack/Shield/Boost levels, most were just expierementing with different cards (and were getting defeated). This greatly increased lines at the portals, so Medium and Hard have been turned off until the Imagineers redesign the levels.

Even if you do not complete all 9 rounds in one day, each day you go to the park, you get 5 more spell cards.

A fun part of the game is trading with other Sorcerer's in line and trying to complete your full set of cards.

Nevermind - this wasn't really High Level at all. LOL!

Sounds interesting, but complicated. Maybe I'm just getting old but all I can image is standing around trying to figure it all out with the I'm-smarter-than-you-crowd tapping their feet impatiently.

It seemed complicated and time consuming to me. I started it on my trip that began on May 1, 2012.

I was sent through Frontierland and when it sent me to Adventureland I stopped for that day since I had lots of other things I wanted to do in the park.

Part of my issues were figuring out where I was supposed to go and remembering to use the card with the key on it first. It was pretty funny when a little girl told me what I was forgetting as I stood at the 2nd portal trying to get it to work.

And I did get some very impatient folks sighing and getting obviously annoyed behind me while I was trying to get things to work. But once I told them Sorry, it's my first time - they usually settled down.

I forgot to bring the cards on my 2nd day in MK and the line to start up and get more cards was extremely long so I decided to wait and try it some more on my next trip.

On the plus side I met some really nice retired folks who were having a great time with it and a woman in line at the Firehouse who had been doing it for several days and said she was addicted. LOL

I first tried at on Leap Day but the lines were prohibitively long. However, I got to defeat 6 villains with DS6 last month. We had a blast together! It didn't take very long to get the hang of it and others were very helpful.
If your DD is a gamer at all she'll love it!

My DD is a gamer! She loves challenges. I know Kim Possible will be down at Epcot while we are there and she is bummed; this will be something new and exciting for her to try

This is a partial post from my blog on Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom game play:

How To Play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
The Crystal of the Magic Kingdom is in danger, and as a Sorcerer of the Magic Kingdom, you can help protect it from the Disney Villains; Hades, Jafar, Cruella DeVil, Scar, Ursula, Dr. Facilier, Yzma, Maleficent, Governor Radcliffe, Maleficent and Chernabog!

You must visit 5 lands in the Magic Kingdom to defeat all of the Villains, but it's not required to play the game. If you're on a Disney World Vacation, and don't have much time ~ don't worry!

You can still help protect the Magic Kingdom and become a Sorcerer!

You can play for as little, or as long as you want! Just go to the Main Street Fire Station upon entering the park, show them your Disney theme park ticket, and poof! You'll be an official Sorcerer of the Magic Kingdom!

You will receive a pack of Sorcerer of the Magic Kingdom Spell Cards (containing 5 random cards, and one of those cards is always a rare star card), a Map, and a Portal Key.

*TIP*
The game will send you to 5 different lands in the Magic Kingdom. If you want to stay together as a group, request this when receiving your first portal key. NOTE: Although a CM can set a group's adventure to stay in the same land as each other, so you're not sent to 5 different areas of the park, it's not possible to go to the exact same portals as each other, it's random.

Scan your portal key at any portal (there are quite a few on Main Street) and it will tell you which land and portal you're supposed to head to next.

Hang onto your portal key, and keep it handy. It contains an RFID card, that is "connected" to your park ticket, so don't worry if you loose it ~ you can show your park ticket and get a replacement card. Everything will remain the same, don't worry☺.

We carry our Spell cards in a card binder, to protect our cards and keep them handy for using during spells. We also put our portal key in the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Spell Card Binder so it's always handy too!

Another great way to carry your portal key is around your neck, in a pouch hanging from a Disney World lanyard (or trading pin lanyard).

There are many types of Spell Cards, and ways to use them. If you want to find out more about the various spell cards 1-60 and 61-70, using spell card combinations, and playing the game ...

To battle the Villains all you need to do is take any of your spell cards and your portal key and go to the correct portal.

Once you're there, just stand on the SOTMK Sorcerers Crest on the ground (this is VERY important ~ if you don't stand on the crest in the ground, the camera won't read your spell card correctly, and you'll have to go to another portal and start again), and scan your portal key.

You will watch the interactive video on the screen (and the videos are awesome, as are the portals!), and maybe even get the chance to use a spell or your Sorcerers Crest (sometimes you'll be asked to use the Sorcerers Crest, instead of a spell, which is basically the symbol on the back of any spell card. Hold a spell card up backwards to use the crest).

If you have any problems with your spell card (Zarius had one that stopped working once, the cameras wouldn't read it), don't worry, just go back to a Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom office (there is one on Main Street in the Fire Station, or one in Liberty Square, behind/next to the Christmas Shop), and they'll fix it, or replace it for you, and have someone check out the portal to make sure it's working properly.

Game play continues on until all 9 villains, in all 5 of the lands. After you've finished, you're supposed to move up a level, to medium, and the game play is supposed to get more challenging. Keep in mind thought that the game play is the same, the videos are the same. What changes is that you'll have to work harder to beat the villains.

NOTE: As of now, 4/12, game play is stuck on Easy. You can't advance at the end of the game to the next level. There are several rumors as to why this is, you can view some of the rumors ...

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is a very fun and exciting (and addictive) new interactive Disney game. My family and I really enjoy spending time at the MK playing, collecting spell cards and sometimes trading with other guests.

Have fun fellow Sorcerers!
