I adore Maddie's outfit for that night's dinner! She's so precious!
![]() And I love how much she talks to the characters. Reid did a little more talking this year but it certainly wasn't that much. Sounds like y'all really had a great meal! We've never done dinner at Chef Mickey's, only breakfast. But, I am considering doing a breakfast and dinner there in December since we'll be staying there. So sad it's almost the end of the trip! But, you know I'll be onboard for the PTR!!! ![]() ![]()

We enjoy Chef Mickeys for both breakfast & Dinner and have enjoyed eating there in each trip.
Kadence loves the interaction and the food has been pretty decent for us so far. I can't wait to hear your upcoming plans

Shannon, I'm sorry I'm so late in responding (being sick and then catching up at work kept me off the DIS basically completely last week
).I love Maddie's princess outfit -- priceless. Great character photo shots with her, and good interaction with Donald and Minnie. I have to be honest that yours is the first "good" review of Chef Mickey's I've read in over a year. The last time we were there (2004) it was awful and we've not gone back. I'm thinking of trying to squeeze it in for breakfast on a future trip, but not dinner. I'm sorry you still weren't feeling great.

Looks like a great time at Chef Mickey's. I agree with you--I don't understand the hate here. But whatever...I'm glad it was a good meal with all the favorite characters!

We love Belle in her "book reading dress"! I can't believe that people don't recognize her. I always wonder who they think they're lining up for! Quote:
I'd have to agree about the BonBons. They're amazing. I can only hope they'll be back. Quote:

I can't wait to hear about Everett's experience there! She loves those ears! Her stuffed dog wears them at home. Quote:
She's a fashionista for sure. Quote:
We have so much fun at Chef Mickey, and Donald's missing had really added some fun for us this time. Maddie doesn't know yet. Her birthday is this week, and we're going to tell her on her birthday. Quote:
We love the vibe at the CR, I'd love to stay there. That's a great idea. What a cool way to take some magic with you. Quote:

I wonder too, it was weird. Kind of cool that the characters costumes are intricate enough that he can go without though! |

She chats their ears off! I actually pull her away more times than not. We had so much fun. I know not everyone likes it, but we've always had a great time. Thanks Amanda! I knew I could count on you. Do you realize that between you, Roni, and myself we'll have the whole summer and 3 different types of vacations covered? We'll have PTR and TRs to read for at least a year! ![]() Quote:
I am going to start the PTR tonight! Quote:
Thanks for mentioning the PtR, I never look at signatures. I'll have to join in! Quote:
Thanks, you know that girl can rock a princess outfit. ![]() Chef Mickey is such fun. If we didn't have a little one we'd stick to breakfast too (I'd rather do all character meals at breakfast, but DH insists that CM be our last dinner, so I do it) Quote:

The One With the Last Night
After dinner we walked back to the Magic Kingdom with heavy hearts. We were glad to have one more night in Walt Disney World, but weren’t ready for our vacation to be over. Well, Maddie and I had heavy hearts. Bryan is much more mature about such matters.
![]() Our first stop inside the Magic Kingdom was for Princess Meet and Greet FP. (You guys didn’t seriously think we’d not say goodbye did you?). After securing our FP we proceeded straight to Pixie Hollow. Maddie was still holding out hope that she’d meet Silvermist, and I haven’t found a good way to tell her that it’s not possible). Some PP along the way ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The line for the fairies was about 35 minutes, and the way I was feeling it seemed much, much longer. Eventually though we made our way inside. We were all pleased as punch to discover a new fairy friend when we stepped inside. Being silly waiting in line ![]() Terrence! Maddie made sure to tell him that he’s her Daddy’s favorite. ![]() ![]() ![]() We met Tink too of course. ![]() Once we’d visited with them it was back to the front of the park to say goodbye to our princess friends. We were chosen to carry the red card, and this made Bryan feel as though he was carrying a backstage pass to a rock concert. We were getting a little silly. ![]() And what a visit it was. These ladies were all fantastic. Cinderella and Maddie chatted at length about shoes, Belle spearheaded a nice chat about books, Beast’s hair, and his favorite rides. Aurora talked about princess gowns and told Maddie that she does enjoy wearing PJs, but that she doesn’t really sleep much these days. Maddie had a great time, and it was the perfect group of princesses to meet on our last night. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Once we’d said farewell to old friends we made our way into Fantasyland. We were hoping that since it was getting close to time for the MSEP the wait times for the rides would be short. Our first stop was at the Barnstormer. The wait time was posted at 20 minutes, but we noticed several young women lining up in what would become the FP line. At that time there was no FP set up for the Barnstormer so we were confused. As we got to the top of the ramp where the 2 lines join up, we asked a CM why the FP line was full of cheerleaders if it wasn’t operational. He told us that it was the line for guests with disabilities, but all of them seemed quite able bodied. It left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths. But, we got on the ride shortly and Maddie had a fabulous time as usual. By the time we finished it was 8:55. We decided to skip the parade and try to squeeze in some more rides while the other guests would be watching. There was no real line for Winnie the Pooh so we stopped there. We skipped most of the interactive stuff because the line was already past it, but Maddie had a ton of fun playing with the honey wall. ![]() ![]() And getting sillier ![]() ![]() ![]() Soon enough we were sailing through the Hundred Acre Wood. Believe it or not, it was Maddie’s first experience with the ride (too afraid of the ‘dark rides’ on her first trip), and she loved it. After we rode we made the mistake of trying to head toward Liberty Square and of course were stopped at the parade route, so we watched the rest of it before splitting up. ![]() Bryan and Maddie headed toward the Main Street Train Station to stake out a spot to watch Wishes (and an easy route out once Wishes concluded), and I speed walked toward the Emporium. I made a few last purchases (pajamas and a magnet for me, and a T-shirt for Maddie) and then swam across the sea of bodies to the Confectionary to use up our remaining snack credits. I picked up some Cokes for Bryan and I to have the next morning, and some candy to bring home with us (souvenir for Uncle Cory!!). When I met back up with Bryan and Maddie I found that they’d used the final 2 snack credits to get some popcorn and a frozen lemonade. ![]() We settled in on the sidewalk, and as M, M, & Y started I looked over to discover that Maddie was crying. I pulled her into my arms and asked what was wrong. “I just don’t want to leave Mommy” And so on our last night I watched Wishes holding my little girl, tears falling from both of our eyes. It had been an amazing vacation. ![]()

The One With the Epilogue
The next morning we woke up obscenely early to catch the Notsomagical Express. I felt even worse than I had the day before.
As usual, we were at the airport much earlier than we needed to be so we stopped for doughnuts for breakfast before we went to our gate. Once we boarded we found ourselves in the very last row of the plane. Maddie and I had 2 seats together, and Bryan was stuck between 2 men across the aisle from us. I was feeling so poorly by then that I was having a very, very hard time staying awake. I dozed off several times before we were allowed to turn our electronic devices back on (Maddie’s DVD player was of utmost importance), and slept fitfully for most of the flight. I awoke about 15 minutes before we landed, and as luck would have it found myself in the middle of a massive sneezing fit as the plane made its descent. I can honestly say that I’ve very rarely felt such horrible pain as the one I had in my ears after that. We landed, MiL picked us up, and we made our way back to our old hometown in short order. I slept for 90% of the car ride, and as soon as we got back to town Bryan took me to our hotel (remember, Maddie and I were officially living in a hotel at that point) where I slept for another 4 hours. The cold turned out to be one of the worst I’ve ever had, and I didn’t feel 100% better for almost 2 weeks. In the weeks to come I’d discover a rather unpleasant side effect from that ill-timed sneezing attack. I experienced bouts of vertigo for a few months afterward. It seems that vertigo is caused by the crystals in the inner ear getting knocked off balance, and I’d rearranged them pretty good when I had my sneezing fit on the plane. (I often wonder what the people sitting in front of me must have been thinking during that flight. Something along the lines of “I really want to Purell that disgusting woman” most likely). |

The One With the Wrap Up
On this trip we ate at 16 TS restaurants and two quick service. We saw one dinner show, ate at 2 signatures, and enjoyed 8 character meals. We used a total of 42 snack credits, and filled our mugs too many times to count. I did some number crunching and found that we saved over $800 using the DxDP. That many meals isn’t for everyone, but we loved it!
Top Table Service Meals as Ranked by the Shannon Family Breakfast 1. Tusker House-the food, atmosphere, service, and characters were all amazing 2. ‘Ohana- the food was pretty good, this is mostly due to how much fun we had 3. 1900 Park Fare- this is where we found real bacon and had an amazing visit with Alice Lunch 1. Via Napoli- excellent food and a cool atmosphere 2. Yak and Yeti- great food, really fun atmosphere, excellent service 3. 50s Prime Time-Bryan puts this one on the list based on the milkshake alone, but we all had fun there. Dinner 1. California Grill- I can’t be sure what the renovations will bring, but you can be sure we’ll be back. Everything about this meal was perfection. 2. Cinderella’s Royal Table- the food was good, but this one makes the list for the full experience. We had an amazing time. 3. (Bryan’s choices) Cape May for the food and Chef Mickey for the fun 3. (Shannon’s choices) ‘Ohana-I really, really loved that food When we weren’t eating we found some time to meet some characters. On this trip we met: Cinderella (8 times) Belle (9 times) Aurora (9 times) Jasmine (3 times) Ariel (3 times) Tiana Snow White (3 times) Rapunzel Pocahontas Meeko Dug Russel Lady Tremaine Drizzela Anastasia Prince Charming Tinkerbell (3 times) Rosetta (2 times) Terrence Pooh (3 times) Tigger (3 times) Piglet Eyeore Fairy Godmother Aladdin (3 times) Mickey Mouse (4 times) Minnie (3 times) Donald (4 times) Goofy (4 times) Pluto (4 times) Daisy Alice Mary Poppins Mad Hatter Lilo Stitch Special Agent Oso Jake the Neverland Pirate June Handy Manny Prince Eric Rapunzel Phineus Ferb Woody Jessie Mulan The Beast Belle was the standout every single time we lined up. She was consistently sweet, engaging, and told many, many funny stories about the Beast. Next time we’ll do our best to really meet some characters. And that, my friends, is the end of the story. I started this TR while Maddie and I were still living in our hotel room, and in the months that have passed we’ve moved to our new town, gotten settled into our new home, new school, new jobs (2 for me), and new routines. I’d like to thank each and every one of you for not only reading and commenting, but for your friendships along the way. It has meant so much to me to have the chance to tell our story to people who feel the same way about Disney that we do, and to “meet” so many wonderful people in the process. You guys are the real reason that I keep coming back to the DIS. So, thank you-all of you- for being a part of this Trip Report. You guys are the best. If PTRs are your kind of thing, I’d love to have all of you join me in planning our next adventure. You want to stay where?? A July 2013 PTR. Thanks again. |
