No, not necessary and not in the least bit relevant to this conversation. Just because someone breaks the rules does not make it right for everyone else. PLUS, while people did break the rules with the mugs, it never cost someone a parking space that they, by staying at a resort, paid a hefty price for. It is simply something you cannot justify.

Hey I can not justify speeding on the highway 5-10 mph over the limit and possibly endangering the lives of the people around me by doing so. But than again most people do it.

Here's the thing. The deluxe resorts are deluxe because they offer amenities that other resorts do not. Nicer pools, nicer theming (well, more adult theming), better restaurants, and close proximity to a park or two. So, guests that want these amenities pay a lot of money to stay there.
It's really not considered fair for someone who is staying at a value (or moderate) to come along, and partake of those amenities...yes, they can eat at the restaurants but they can not swim in the pools and they aren't supposed to park at the resort for park access. That really seems pretty easy to understand...at least to me.
I just can't understand why some feel it is okay for them to avail themselves of these perks that others are paying for.

Again, I really wish that Disney would enclose the pools and make them keyed entry...just like BLT's pool. I wish they would have guest parking key accessible as well, with addtl parking for non-resort guests to use, for a fee, after a certain amount of time. You want to head to the Polynesian and eat at 'Ohana? Fine, you get to park free of charge for 3 hrs. You get your parking slip validated (with time) and no charge. But, stay longer than those 3 hrs, or don't get the validation? You pay to park there. Seems pretty simple to me. And not so hard to do.

Totally agree non resort guests pay to park or valet. Paying seems to always deter lots of people and problem solved.

Then again in the grand scheme of things how much time are you really saving? 15 - 20 minutes compared to TTC? I always use the resort monorail when the lines are long. Works every time.

I never knew people actually use other resort pools. That's insane! Who actually has time to do that? I can't imagine packing up the car to drive to another pool when there is one right out the hotel door. We barely use the pool in the resorts we stay at.

We're the type that are at the park from open to close even in August and July.

We get the absolutely cheapest resort at Disney it is nothing more than a be to sleep on.

That is so wrong to use another resorts pool. Seriously it's a pool. Go to the water parks I you want super water fun!

When I booked a vacation in 2011 the cost difference between the Poly and All Star was $3k. I just couldn't justify the monorail as a big enough amenity for $3k.

Now this is based on my visits. We pretty much use the room to sleep, that's it. Up at 6am everyday grab coffee in the mugs at the food court and eat our breakfast bars and hit the parks for rope drop. Don't see the room again until 11pm or 12am.

Granted we are all zombies by the time we leave Disney, but than we spend 2 nights at a beach resort to recoup before going home.

If I said to my kids in the afternoon we are leaving to go to the resort for a break they would have my head. Lol. Wife included.

Hope I'm not missing out on something that other resorts have.

You have probably gone and returned from your trip already. but here is my 2 cents. I found when my two boys were of stoller age, I left the big double stroller at home and bought two inexpensive umbrella strollers, one from a garage sale for $10. It was so easy to just collapse those things. (I learned this lesson of course because I previously lugged around the big stroller, it wasn't fun.) Also, I didn't want to push them around all day, I wanted my boys to walk as much as possible so they would be tired at night. This worked well.

I stay at all level resort. I own DVC at both BLT and BWV. BUT...you can also find me at Pop!! Love it there. And will be spending a night at AoA in Dec. I love the value resorts!!!
But, I do love the deluxe resorts. I go to WDW fairly often...so like to relax at my resort. Nicer to relax at a deluxe vs a value...especially in my room!!!

The funny thing is that we bought BWV DVC sight unseen. We headed over to the BW area one night, while at Epcot. DH said that was the only place he would consider buying that 'Disney timeshare thingie'. 3 months later we were proud owners at BWV!!! And his reasoning??? He can walk to two different parks, and the villas are more pleasant to sit in and do work vs other resort rooms. So, for us??? As a family, we stay at a dvc resort. When I travel by myself, I can stay at a value....no problem at all.
I don't mind the buses at Pop..they are actually quite good. Better than most resorts. Yes, the buses get crowded at park closing, but they tend to run more frequent buses to Pop then.

It all depends on what type resort experience you want...but you have to decide what's important. If you want easy access to a park, you can't just go and park wherever you want to. If non-resort guests had to pay to park for more than a few hours, at those deluxe resorts, you would see a lot less issues over parking...a lot of people are trying to circumvent paying to park at the parks!!

Let me propose this question to get people's thoughts.

If you a rope drop person such as as we are meaning you get to the park early and actually walk to the TTC rather than take a tram since you are so close. Mind you we stay on site so parking fees are free.

Does it even make sense to park at a resort and take a guest spot? Are you really saving any time.

If you really think about it parking at a resort to visit a park doesn't make much sense since your really not saving much time. Why take the risk of being towed. Unless you trying to evade parking fees. Which is wrong.
