Please tell me why Cosmic Rays gets such high reviews?

I have been to this place over and over (gluten for punishment?) mainly because it is one of the only places open later. The food is disgusting! Yet, I keep hearing on here that it is a favorite. Someone please tell me why and what you eat that is so good. Because everything that I have tried is gross. I used to at least like the fries because of the cheese sauce, but last time I ate those I got sick. They were not even cooked!

We don't care for it and only eat there when it is the only thing open late, (which as you mentioned it usually is the only thing open. Lately, even then we just skip it and order room service when we get back to the room. Columbia Harbour House is our favorite CS in MK and pretty much stick to it these days.

I love the sauteed mushrooms and all the fresh stuff at the fixin's bar. My dd and I can get one cheeseburger and split it, so it is a good on the budget also. I cant' say we rave over it, but we like it and don't hesitate to go back.

While the food isn't anything to write home about, I've never found it anywhere near approaching "disgusting." Maybe I've just gotten lucky.

I think the main appeal lies in the variety. You can take a group with very different tastes there and they can all find something to order.

It's not our favorite place to eat, either, but people really seem to love a fixings bar. that'swhy Pecos Bills is so popular. I am not really into the fixings, personally. I also think because it has a very expensive QS meal option, and some people are very much in to squeezing every dollar out of the dining plan.

Of course, my family's favorite QS in MK is Caseys, so there you go.

Maybe it depends on what your getting? We get the Chicken and potatoes and green beans, and hubby gets ribs/chicken combo. I think its really good. I think its a great deal for the dining plan.

I wouldn't say it's great, but it's not disgusting. We usually do choose to eat there on a MK day.

It's pretty typical WDW CS in terms of quality. It does have a decent variety as opposed to most CS that only have a few choices.

Why do we like it? For the variety. And for the mango gelato.

ha ha.. CR is sort of a joke for our family.. for the same reason. We always end up eating there and asking each other-- WHY??, and swearing we won't do it again.. and then we do it again. Our food hasn't been disgusting.. just at times a bit bad and I personally don't like the way the food lines are set up there. We have young kids, so we have to wait in more than one line.

My favorite QS meal at MK is CHH. Of course, I guess at least CR didn't give me food poisoning like Pinocchio Haus did on my last trip.. but I think that was just bad luck.

we must both be gluttons for CR..

If you were eating the hamburgers then I agree it's pretty awful- but that's across the board at most of the places that serve Disney burgers. And the fault is with those awful (taste and texture of sawdust) buns that fall apart and always taste stale.

But we don't eat the burgers- so the fixins bar is immaterial to us. We get the chicken or chicken and ribs combos and find them quite tasty.

CHH is our favourite CS place in MK as well.

I like Cosmic Rays because it's the only place in MK that I can get something to eat due to my allergies. For me, the buns are a delight as they are dairy-free and the Udi's buns will send me to the hospital. Yes, they are a bit crumbly and stale tasting to those used to white bread; but I'm just glad to eat an actual hamburger with a bun.

We have been there many times. I agree, it is not my favorite place at MK at all. It is really difficult when you have to visit different bays to get what your family wants. We really like Pecos Bills, and CHH.

Well we don't find it "disgusting" but why it appeals to our group is that it has different counters with different offerings. We typically travel with a fairly large group who don't always agree on what to eat. This place offers a pretty wide variety.

( We feel the same way about the counter service area near Tower of Terror at DHS. It's three different "restaurants" in that case, but they are all next to each other offering a wide variety )

That happens with us too!! We went there in 2008 for the first time, and we hated every food we tried (each of us got something different) then when I went again in 2009, for some reason, I ended up there again! I think it's convenience. It's a big CS place so you aren't subjected to long long lines or desperately searching for a table, like CS on main street in MK. Hopefully next trip we won't subject ourselves to it again

These kinds of posts crack me. "Disgusting!", everytime?, really??? Many people read these posts to form an opinion about a restaurant and are misled. Is McDonalds disgusting? Is Applebees disgusting? Is Cracker Barrell disgusting? I ate at Cosmic Rays once, just last year. I had a burger and it was good. My wife and children had chicken sandwiches and all 3 of them enjoyed it. The fixins bar was cool and had tasty items for my burger. The burger was similar to other restaurants that I mentioned above.
Disgusting? Really?
