ECV Rental and Parking Question

My mom injured her knee and is therefore renting an ECV for our upcoming trip. She is renting from an offsite company so that she has it available all the time, and we will have a rental car to drive to the parks. Obviously we can't get the ECV on a tram; do we need to have a special parking pass or doctors note so that we can park where we do not need to use the parking lot tram?

Obviously I have never been in this situation before, and we really would prefer not to take the bus since we always drive to the parks.

Thanks for your help!

You will need a handicapped parking permit if you don't have one. You can get an application from your DMV, I think in some states you can print them online, or pick one up. Fill it out and get your Dr. to finish filling it out and sign. Then turn it in to DMV. This will probably give you a temp permit.

A Dr.'s note will not do any good. Must have handicapped parking permit.

Also if you read the sticky posts under disabilities, it wiil help answer a lot more questions you might have.

Hope you have a great trip.

as pp said need a handicap card or plate, dr note will not help. if booked thru AAA you could use their diamond pass. if going at busy time might want to look at buses. if going later in day or hopping to a second park, parking close will be hard. only exception to handicapped that i know of is Make A Wish and not sure of that.

There are spots next to the handicapped spots that are not ACTUAL handicapped spots that are 'reserved' for 'medical parking' for cases such as this. BUT you have to be very careful not to park in one of the designated handicapped spots or you would be subject to being ticketed by the police and that is a very costly ticket. Medical parking does exist unless they have gotten rid of it recently (at least at Epcot and the Studios.) There is not much of it, but it was there. Maybe that's why everyone keeps saying there is no such thing? Not sure that it exists at MK...but have seen it & used it at the others. So it is there.

The parking lots are patrolled by Orange County Sheriff's Office as well as Disney Security. If you are parked in Medical Parking (where there are the blue lines) and do not have a disabled plate or hang tag you will be given a $250 ticket by OCSO.

Before I got my handicapped placard I used to ask if we could drop off at the handicap area then take the car back around to the regular parking area. I would drive my scooter and meet everyone at a specific area. They always let me but a few times it took a few minutes to get them to understand that we would not park in the handicap area

You may not park in the handicapped area without an official permit even if a CM says you may, because later someone else may come and ticket your car after you and the first CM have departed.

I clearly don't want to argue this with you Cheshire as i know you work for Disney but i am VERY confused!!!! I was assisted by Disney security in parking immediately adjacent to a "HC signed spot" due to my scooter. The security officer said they did have spots for medical situations such as this but to ab****ely make sure i was not in one of the HC spots!! we received the same explanation at Epcot. these were not Just plain traffic directing CM's. they were wearing security uniforms, one was driving a security vehicle.....So they lied to me???

yes they do have spots as long as their is no sign saying handicap spot with the fine amount your okay. if the spot your in has a sign and painted blue then your at risk of getting a 250 dollar ticket. The officer has to give the ticket no matter if a disney cm said it okay but as long as their is no sign you be fine. you can park in the handicap lot as long as it not a handicap spot you wont get ticketed for parking the lot just the spot.

That's what I was saying...
the security officer said just make sure it wasn't a spot with a "HC SIGN" other than that we were fine to park in the adjacent spots. That's what they were there for...

In Florida, handicapped spots can also be designated with blue painted lines. Only a few have signs. Most of those are the signs telling which spots are van accessible for spots with enough space to park a van with a ramp and put down the ramp.
There are many spots with blue painted lines - those are still designated handicapped parking spots where guests without handicapped parking permits can get ticketed.

The parking lot at the Studio is fairly small and, as far as I can see, all the spots have blue painted lines.

Thanks sue here in new York it tr same way most of the time it blue paint and a sign but their some places that just use blue paint. I find Disney pretty good with putting signs at each spot so you know I a handicap spot and you know what the fine is. Here in new York unless it a city/town lot they won't Ou he fine amount not saying it matter what the fine is no one should park in a handicap spot unless you have a handicap placard. So for Disney being private property and putting the fine amount I have to give them credit unless it the law in orange county. I was saying I the spot has no sign or blue paint in a lot with other handicap spot then they won't get a ticket. You right I got confused and thought they had a couple non handicap spots to help guest who don't have a handicap placed and needs to park close. Plus if a Disney security cm pointing them to the spot I have to think it okay to park because they are the ones who have to contact ocso to report violations when a ocso busy and can't do a patrol of the lot. Their ocso eyes and ears when ocso can't be every where. Thank you sue very much for correcting me and sorry if gave bad info thought they had a spot or two but your right it is a small lot.
