Ok, I have a question. Pardon my ignorance, but I have never rented a car, ever.

Do we need to show any type of proof of insurance? I know that regular car insurance doesn't cover rental cars, but does the company need to know that we have insurance otherwise.

Besides a drivers license and cc, what other docs do we need at the counter?

We leave in 4 days and I'm trying to get any and all documentation gathered up. Thanks!

Depends on the rental company. The majors only require a credit card (some will accept a debit card with various rules) and a driver's license for all drivers. Check your policy, many insurance companies do cover rental cars. Check and see what they cover.

I agree, have been trying different companies and coupons and cheapest I can get is still $100 over what I paid last November for same amount of days.

don't forget to factor in whatever deductible you may have on your personal car insurance. Ours is low but many have large ones ranging from $500 to $1,000+ on their insurance.

Do you know, in case of an incident, which would be the primary (personal or credit card related). If personal, would the CC coverage wipe out the deductible?

We are booked through Alamo. I checked with my car insurance and they do cover rental cars. So, do I need to bring proof of insurance with me? Or just my confirmation, DL and CC?

I must have hit it right when I booked mine...Alamo, Standard, 9/29 - 10/6 $126 using 7014136 and AD2359FDF. Ever since it's been $202.

Hotwire has some decent rates. 8 days for fullsize total $156.

You dont need proof of insurance with Alamo. Just your confirmation number, coupons if needed, DL and CC. If you are not using coupons, check in online and go directly to the garage. If you are using coupons, then use the kiosk by the rental counter. Much quicker, less hassle, nobody trying to sell you upgrades, insurance etc.

I used a coupon you posted on here at the end of August. Do I need a physical coupon to get the discount?

I ended up with the best price from dollar...it was the city specials..minivan for 5 days $165 base price, $233 total. No one else can touch that for me - not even hotwire.

I'm using my Alamo insider ID, the Costco online code, and the AA online code. Can I check in online and go directly to the garage? No need to go to the kiosk?

WHOA. Alamo's rates went through the roof today! I have a minivan booked from 9/29-10/10 for $385 -- checked today (hoping for a drop) and it's well over $1k for the same dates with the same discount codes. Guess it's not dropping.
