I agree with most of what you've said. I do like the over the door shoe holder for toiletries and such.

The decent clocks in the rooms are a recent improvement. In years past, the lighted clock was a big deal to us--fortunately it is another thing we no longer need to pack.

You still have the Pirate menu, AFAIK, and the show.

Pirate party is outside if it's not raining. The pirate menu is replaced by a taste of Alaska menu. There are no fireworks

Thanks for the great tips. Subbing in case any more are added. I look forward to contributing my own wisdom after our September Alaska cruise. Thanks for making ours better!

Dinner for Triton's and Show Dinner for Animator's Palate). Dress
is Cruise Casual.

Day 2: (At Sea) Formal Night, with the Golden Mickeys menu.

Day 3: (Tracy Arm) The restaurant menu, Cruise Casual.

Day 4: (Skagway) The new Taste of Alaska Menu, Cruise Casual.

Day 5: (Juneau) Restaurant menu, Pirate Attire or Cruise Casual.

Day 6: (Ketchikan) Captain's Gala menu, Semi-Formal attire.

Day 7: (At Sea) 'Til we Meet Again menu, Cruise Casual.
Can I ask where you got this info? From DCL? or last year's navagators? Been wondering this myself and hoping my Palo ressie is not Pirate Night. THANKS!

ETA: Oops! Disregard- I missed the 2011 part- so I'm guessing last years naviagator

Shoreside concierge told us their best guess for Pirates Night is Day 5, Juneau day, but it is always subject to change.

Oh the classic ships have a lighted clock too? That's great. I like the style of the old propeller clocks but they're not very practical in the dark.

You missed one of my most important tips... An extension cord. There never seems to be enough outlets or outlets in the right places.

Thanks for this very helpful tip thread! Cruising for the very first time in 43 days, and I want to be sure what to pack, and what to leave out.

As someone mentioned earlier, any Alaska-specific tips you could share?

Generally speaking, the Alaska cruises are round-trip. So the scenery that is seen on one side on the way out, will be seen by the other side on the way back.

I thought unpackaged food was not allowed off the ship in the US either? We are bringing fruit snacks and the 100 calorie cracker snacks for the girls (5 and 2) so that we won't have the unpackaged food problem. Non-prepackaged food can transfer bugs in so that is why it's not allowed. I don't think this would be the case for water bottles, right?

I am also one of those picky people about shampoo! For some reason my hair does not like H2O stuff. I tried it several times onboard and several more in the DVC rooms.

Um, Alaska is in the US. But besides that we were on the Mexican Riviera cruise in March and they were selling bottles of water to take off the ship as we disembarked into ports and you could take off packaged goods just not fresh fruit or dairy in Mexico.
