Oh, no - that's not it. Pete loves giving stuff away! It's John who got tired of giving away cruises.

Is the Podcast crew giving away monthly prizes anymore at all? I admit that for about the past 9 months I've been going back and listening from the beginning concurrently with current podcasts and I can no longer remember what has happened recently and what happened 5 years ago.

I'm guessing with the addition of the welcome center, not to mention all the podcast crews and ABD trips, the prizematron budget may have taken a bit of a beating.

Don't know about the prizematron, but they do still award a mug/lanyard/etc if you have an email read on the show.

I liked the prizematron. It didn't have to cruises or hotel stays. It's the thrill of the winning...or seeing stuff given out. Could be a sticker book or a bath ball from Basin. Any stupid thing would do. Pair of socks. A pin. Whatever.

It was funny.

I think you guys (Podcast crew) should just pretend - get a wheel of fortune type noise (i.e. http://www.sounddogs.com/sound-effec...NDDOGS__ga.mp3) and have Pete say, "and you have won (fillin the blank)" Hey, we're easily pleased.

Prizes don't have to have a huge monetary value, they can be things like
* a day in the park with your favorite podcast remember
*a weekend at Pete's house
* a day with Kathy on a photo-taking spree
*an evening out with Kevin and John
*family day with Corey, Julie and the kids.

Just to name a few.

It seems that our time doesn't have a huge monetary value.

Forgive my ignorance, but I truly can't tell if this was serious or tongue-in-cheek. Podcasters are just like you, me, and the neighbor down the street - normal people. They get up in the morning and put their pants on one leg at a time. The only difference is that they use technology as a medium to share their opinions and lives with others around the globe.

With this being said, the personal lives of the podcast team are sacred. For many reasons (safety being one of them), I wouldn't expect Corey and Julie to schedule a day with a listener and bring along their children. Similarly, I would never expect Pete to share his personal address with those he does not know. Just like celebrities in Hollywood, they are real people and have private lives away from the fame here on the DIS. I think we should respect that and not push our wants upon them. If this is something they volunteer, that is a different story, but I think it should be their decision and not something influenced by the listeners.

Just my two cents.

Well said, Nikki!!! (Although I would love an evening out with Kevin and John - especially if it's in Paris!)

Wink

Well said Nikki. I am personally happy with just the podcasts.

The prizematron will be missed but to be honest it's not the reason I listen to the show nor are the prices.

It's the show itself. Although if the harp music made a return I would probably cheer.

That is so funny, I do the same thing. I am making way through the old shows (probably my second or third time through) and I can't remember if what I heard is recent or 4 years old! And the funny thing is I started listening to the shows over again once I began planning our upcoming trip and I think it has only confused me!

OH MY GOSH!! NO Kevin...those would be priceless prizes!!! Are you kidding me?? I'm sorry I didn't say that in my original post! The day I met Pete, Walter and Kathy at the New England meet, that was a priceless day!! Always will be. I'm sure some day when I meet the rest of you, I will feel the same! I'm so sorry I made you think that your time has no value!!
