It is most definitely an official runDisney event.

While it is officially a RunDisney race it is not really an official race. You're time is not recorded anywhere.

Just completed my first 5k on Friday on Castaway Cay. Hadn't run in two years, but crash trained on the ship and managed to jog/walk to a 36 minute time. Felt like a decent time for an out of shape 40 year old in asthma season.

Actually is 36 minutes a decent time for a middle aged male running their first 5 k with extremely little training beforehand? Truly have no idea. It was a lot of fun, but didn't buy the shirt for 22 bucks, seemed overpriced for what it is, the bib and medal are enough for me.

Times are not recorded for any of RunDisney's 5k "races". The only real difference is that this one doesn't come with a shirt (or a $70 price tag ).

The 5ks didn't used to be timed, that's true. But the 5k for this past marathon weekend was--at least for Dopey Challenge (5k, 10k, half, and full) participants. My friend and her husband did the Dopey and when they were talking to a runDisney rep about it (for some reason the rD rep was looking at her husband's time) the rep asked him if something had happened at the 5k. He had taken almost an hour, what with taking pictures--and he was embarrassed because he could have done it in half the time! They didn't even realize until then that they had been timed. But it makes sense. You need a finish time for every race to receive the Dopey Challenge medal.

Anyway, it's slightly off topic in terms of the CC 5k as it stands now, but does point to the possibility of all the 5ks being timed in the future (maybe).

Hi - do you know if family members can watch the 5K? I'm traveling with some family who won't be running (including my kids) and would like to know if they can get off the boat with me and be at the finish line, etc. Thanks!

From What I saw should not be an issue. With the path you would run they could rent bikes and follow your progress if they wanted. It is very informal and I had to dodge runners, walkers, and bikers as I was sprinting to the finish lol.

I have completed the Everest Challenge twice at Animal Kingdom. It is a 5k and it is definitely timed.
And for those who thinking of walk/running or just walking CC 5k, I walked it before and took about 50 minutes. They did not have any problem with that. I was the only one who walked so I was the last one in and they were still waiting for me.

I believe the 5k's that you pay an entry for are always timed.. as at WDW and DL. I'm pretty sure they make this one a fun run for cruisers without an official time clock since it is not a "race" with placement.

A friend of mine did the 5k in November and she just told me that they weren't allowed to keep their bibs and had to turn them back in. I've never heard anyone mention that in here before. Is this normal? I've never heard of having to give back the bid after a race!

DS and I did the WDW marathon weekend 5K (not as Dopey participants) and we have no official time.

No, that's not normal, and honestly I think she misunderstood. They can't do anything with the bibs; mine have sweat all over them and water if I miss my mouth, and they wouldn't look new or nice at all. I wonder if they asked for the safety pins and she misunderstood.

Well she told me she thought it was weird that they would want a bib back after people had sweated all over it!
