Booked my "I made it to Medicare" solo trip! Update p.3, post #38

I won't be officially on Medicare until June 1 but I wanted to take in the end of Flower and Garden so I am off to SSR May 12 - 17. DH is happy that I am able to do this trip. Our Oct. big family trip was not what you call relaxing and DH always feel badly that the trips we do together tend to revolve around his health issues.
I have no plans and will have fun for the next few weeks planning some things that I never get to do. Anyone have suggestions for an old lady who wants to kick up her heels a bit on her own?

I don't know if I could suggest anything new, but I am sure you are going to have a great time. We go in the fall, and are not going back until Oct 2013 unfortunately, but I really want to go in May b/c I love the idea of Flower and Garden. I prefer going to Florida in the spring b/c when we get home it's starting to get into summer here so I don't have to put away all my summer clothes and flip flops; conversely, coming home after our November trip is like the march of the despondent as we arrive back in NJ to the prospect of having the next 5 months be generally freezing!

Have you been during F&G? I'm sure you have. I would only suggest that you enjoy exactly what you detail--the chance to relax, and the chance to do whatever you want. Good luck, enjoy the planning!

Congrats!!!!!

Have you been to Cirque DuSoliel?( hope I spelled that right).

What about the new movie theatre that serves food?

I've never done a solo trip so I'm curious about the suggestions you might get. Have a wonderful trip!

I've stayed at SSR before a business trip solo a couple of ears ago. I walked over to DTD and had lunch at the Earl of Sandwich and did a little shopping. There was a stand that sold frozen margheritas that was quite refreshing while shopping. I also found that walking around Epcot and MK by myself was just fine. I thought I may feel out of place as I am always with family when I go but Disney is one of those places that you just feel comfortable in even when you're solo. Have a great time and I'm sure you'll chat with very nice perfect strangers throughout your day so that you never feel "alone".

Congratulations! Enjoy this special trip! I would do something special at the F&G show. Look at the schedule. Once I did the special tour of the gardens that is offered. If you are interested in Teas, do the tour of Twining's garden, it's fun!

Congratulations!! My DW went on Medicare this month (I'm still a couple of years away). Hope you had an easier time understanding it all than we did.

You remind me of the "celebration" (which was not a trip to Disney so wasn't as good as yours!) I had when I turned 59 1/2 (I called it "freedom day")--the day I could access retirement savings (not that I will) w/out paying a penalty!

I did a solo trip a couple of years ago and my favorite day I spent riding the monorail/resort line. Got off at each of the monorail resorts, shopped for a small souvenir--got lunch (and a Dole Whip) at the CS place at the Poly, and just walked around exploring the resorts ... we almost never stay at a MK/monorail resort, so this was particularly fun--and took up a good portion of the day as I just "ambled around" soaking it all in and not going any faster than I felt like...

I still haven't mustered "the courage" to do a sit-down restaurant meal by myself...but I enjoy the CS places (usually w/a book to read while I eat) on my own...

I also really, really liked finding a spot outside BLT and watching first Wishes and then the Electrical Water Parade...

Have a great time and welcome to Medicare! Not there yet myself...but did manage my dad's last illness (which meant LOTS of dealing w/Medicare)...no better/no worse than dealing w/a "regular" insurance company...neither is fun...but better than no health insurance for sure!

Congrats! Have a great trip!

I think I would make an ADR for Biergarten, and maybe go on a tour.

I hope you have such a wonderful trip. I know you've gotten to experience much of what Disney has to offer, but maybe you could do one of the tours like Keys to the Kingdom or Wild Africa Trek?

Have a great trip, Jean! I'm going to be "celebrating" Medicare eligibility soon too, but I'm not going to be taking advantage of it just yet because DH is still working, so his insurance will cover me as long as he's doing that yet.

I always enjoy tea at the GF. I sit there by myself, sipping tea and enjoying the view. Just very relaxing.

Congratulations on hitting this milestone and celebrating it with a trip to WDW.

Early May is our favorite time to go to WDW. We enjoy the Flower and Garden Festival. In fact, my DW's twitter name is @FlwrPwrLady. Epcot is so beautiful with the flowers in full bloom.

My DW and I love the Flower Power concerts so I highly recommend them. Also visit our friends in the UK...... the World Showcase Players and The British Revolution. Both are great shows.

We'd be going again this year if it wasn't for us leaving for Aulani the day after tomorrow. But our trip for next May is already planned. Enjoy!

Maybe I shouldn't have started this thread because it is making me obsess about all my choices.
I have done Cirque many times but if a deal on tickets comes along I may do it again. I just love that show and it is even better since they changed a few parts. I looked at the Flower and Garden offerings and will probably do one after my other plans take shape. I have never done the Wild Trek nor a Segway tour (anyone have advice about whether to try the Epcot or the Fort Wilderness Segway?) because DH can't do them so I think this would be the perfect time to try one or both. I am not much of a tea person but at my age perhaps it is time to venture away from being just a coffee lover. I do want to get to Fantasmic because I haven't seen it for a couple of years and probably Wishes and MSEP because DH isn't fond of fighting the crowds for those on his scooter. I like the idea of doing the monorail tour and that would work out well with the Tea at GF. How dressed up do you need to be for the Tea?
