Cancorder, iMac and Adobe Premier Elements?

After much research (apparently not enough) I bought a new camcorder. Canon HF m500 to take my vacation and family videos. The point was to finally get widescreen high def videos to edit and burn to DVD's to play and send to family. I downloaded imovie 11. I can edit my HD video but now find out, iMovie can not burn HD videos so I need another program to load onto the iMac to do this. I was recommended to use Adobe Premier Elements 10 but am finding many reviews that are talking of crashing and not installing.
Does anyone have any experience with this or any other programs on an iMac?
Thanks for any assistance and opinions.

I have installed Elements 10 on my iMac at home and the one at my office with no problems. But I haven't tried to do anything with videos.

I haven't tried it, but I understand Toast will do what you want. However, you need a Blu Ray player in order to play videos in HD. You can get wide screen on a DVD, but not HD.
What happened to Bicker? He was the expert on all these things.

Thanks. I am considering Toast as well. The recommendation for Adobe came form someone with lots of experience but when I started reading reviews I became a bit reluctant. I have a BluRay player so that is not an issue.

At risk of sounding pedantic, but just for clarification, does you Mac also have a BluRay burner? I only ask because this isn't standard equipment on any Apple products. (though there are of course plenty of third party aftermarket products that should work)

Final Cut is about $300 but they do have a trial version for you to try out and see if if it works.

Actually, from what I understand you can burn HD files to a regular DVD that will play on a Blu Ray player. I think it is limited to 20 minutes in length.
And, no, the Apple built-in DVD will not write to Blu Ray. I asked Apple when they would put in one that would do Blu Ray, and the answer I got is that solid state media and streaming is the future and Blu Ray is out as far as Apple is concerned.

Thanks for all the answers. It is so confusing to research this particular subject.
I do have a blu bay player and thought I might have to buy a burner. 20 minutes would work if my Disney trips didn't have 6 hours of video!!!! I did not want to spend more than $100 more on this so Final Cut was not in the cards, but if I need to by a burner too I may just have to bite the bullet.

Does your Blu Ray have a USB port for thumb drives? If so, you can do what I do. I took Apple's advice and copy all my HD videos to a thumb drive and play them through the Blu Ray with the USB port. Thumb drives are cheap and getting cheaper all the time. That way you don't have to purchase a Blu Ray burner or the burning software.
One note, at least on my Blu Ray it will not play files with the m4p (or what ever the extension is for Itunes movies) and I have to just rename the file with the mp4 extension.
