I'm working on Ascendio, the next Harry Potter fancon taking place at Universal Orlando in July, and on July 12, we're hosting Night of a Thousand Wizards 2, a private event at the WWOHP until 1 AM - so like at our 2010 event, Infinitus, the lines for things like Ollivander's will be much shorter than during the day, and since our event will be mostly grownups (with some older teens) it won't be just kids who get to go through the wand choosing experience.

I read somewhere that they sold plastic wands in the Ollivander's store for the younger kids who aren't old enough for the $30 ones? I figured that my brother could get one since he is not too careful when it comes to fragile things like the wands at Ollivanders, and I wanted to know if they did sell them and if it lights up like the ones you can get around Halloween time.

Thank you!

We've been there three times (all since Wizarding World opened), and I've never seen anything but the $30 wands. Nor have I seen anything that lit up that looks like a HP wand.

If he's that young, maybe you can find a true wooden wand that looks like a HP wand?

I haven't seen any cheaper wands either.

And by the way, I mean find a wooden wand elsewhere. We got a beautiful wand at a Ren Faire one year, just gorgeous, and so inexpensive. I think it looks more "real" as a wizard's wand than the resin things sold at Wizarding World, but alas, DS and DH disagree!

Oh, I thought they sold the plastic ones that people usually get for Halloween costumes that light up. My brother IS old enough to be able to have one of those resin ones, but, despite the notices I've shown him on their website, he still thinks the resin wands are toys! So spending $30 on him to have him break it would not work out very well.

I'll just have to talk some sense into him before the trip!
