Do you have a Nordstroms near you? They have a jean fitter..she can help you find the perfect pair. They sell Hudsons, Joes, 7 for man kind, and my favorite, citizens for humanity. LOVE those. They fit in all the right places and make you look teeny tiny! Good luck.

Brand names in jeans mean nothing to me. Neither does the store of origin. I care about how they fit and look. I haven't found that more expensive jeans fit any better than cheaper jeans.

The best-fitting jeans I've had in a decade were a pair I bought at Target two months ago. They fit on my natural waist which was a freaking miracle of fit after all these years of constantly tugging the mid-rise and low-rise jeans up every five minutes. They fit everywhere and were a dark wash. They cost about $30. And not only do I get a lot of compliments on them, did I mention they FIT?

I won't shop there because of their attitudes towards people over 30. My dd did a college project on stores and it involved testing and analyzing how stores treat customers based on age, gender, ethnicity/race, weight, etc. One of the WORST stores for bad treatment of customers was Rue 21 and they got that grade for their treatment of women apparently over the age of 30. I was one of her many testers and their practices were obvious and beyond rude. I was ignored when I went into the store -- as was every woman over the age of 30, even when they were there with their teen dd -- and then further ignored when I asked for help with clothes in hand. I had two young men watch me coming and then turn their backs on me and walk away as I got closer. I ended up complaining to the manager and she said, "Yeah, our store is not meant for people like you." I did enjoy plopping down a HUGE pile of clothes and telling her -- in my own Pretty Woman moment -- "Oh well. Too bad. I was here shopping for my teen dd since, you know, Christmas is a few weeks away. Guess my OLD money isn't good enough to buy merchandise here. Too bad, but I guess your store doesn't need to sell merchandise at Christmas. I'll let everyone I know with a teen daughter that you don't want their money." My experience was the norm for all of her testers over 30 in that store. (For the record, the store with the best customer service was Hot Topic.)

You mentioned that you liked the look of the Express Jeans. Have you tried the Eva fit (instead of Stella or Zelda). It's a touch higher (but still low), and meant for someone with hips. I have the gapping with Stella and Zelda but get a perfect fit with Eva.

It's sad that in order to get womens sizes right we have to resort to naming our fits strange names, but there you go. I'm an Eva.

My favorite jeans are all Lucky too, and I have always been able to find them at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for about $40. You might have to keep going back and checking for your size or the style you want, but I have three pairs I bought there. Also, Lucky runs big so keep that in mind.

She actually prefers the ones with lots of "bling" on the pockets, but they have more subdued ones as well w/o looking like "mom jeans". On the plus side, some of the ones she's found were $10 from the clearance rack
Thank you! Haven't heard of Rue21, but will be heading to a different mall this weekend so will have to keep my eyes peeled.

How much does something like this cost? Seems like the last time I took something to a seamstress (20 yrs. ago!), the alteration cost more than the item itself!

I just ordered a pair of the Lucky Sofia Boot last night! Excited to try them. Crossing my fingers they fit!

I spend so much in shipping/handling with all my buying and returning, lol.

I'll have to hit another Express then to look for Eva. The store I visited just had the Stella and, I think, RocknRepublic? (or something like that...)

They were the first store I hit since I buy 90% of my slacks there - wide waistband Editor pant - fit like a DREAM. I figured their jeans would fit too. WRONG!

I used to love the LOFT jeans/pants, but now that they changed their fit I'm having the same problem as you . I have tried the jeans from Target and I liked how they fit (not as much as I liked the LOFT ones but it was ok)....but I didn't like the color of any of the jeans. Frustrating. Banana Republic did the same thing to me a few years ago, which is when I switched to LOFT. I used to be able to walk in a store, buy the pants in the fit I liked, and not even have to try them on.

Wow, I wouldn't go back either! They always treat me real nice at our local one despite being a 44-year-old man who obviously has zero fashion sense

That's like my experience at Nordstrom when I was younger. Everyone talks about their customer service...yeah, not with me!

In high school I went to the local one, bought what I needed there, it was great. Shopped in Brass Plum, used my mom's Nordstrom card (the 80s...I brought in a note from her saying I could use it and it was fine!). Didn't spend a *lot*, we couldn't do that financially, but I got good service and everyone was happy.

Moved to Tacoma for college, same situation with the CC (and that was still OK) or maybe she'd put my name on the account by then? HORRIBLE service! I was *ignored* at Brass Plum when I would go wearing my "trying on" clothes, which meant simple, easy clothes, yep, casual clothes. If I went while dressed up, they were all over me.

When I was 20 I decided I wanted "nicer" clothes, and bought some shorts and tops (linens, silks) from their women's department. While wearing one outfit the first time, they started coming apart. So I took them back, and simply wanted a credit b/c I was going to walk over to Brass Plum and get the "juniors" clothes that had never fallen apart before, and definitely not on the first wearing. I got the third degree! This was *days* after buying the clothes, and it's not like it was a gown or something, it was just nicer casual clothes. Took FAR too long to get my credit.

Then I walked over to Brass Plum and was ignored.

I don't go there anymore. I've walked through on the off chance the service might be better, but nope, nothing. Don't think I've bought anything there in 22 years. Such a mistake on their part...big mistake.

This is a recurring battle for me as well. I have a small figure, but have hips & butt, which make the task hard. Lately, I've found a few good pairs at Maurices. Low waist but not too low (i.e. low rise underwear do not show), trendy washes/colors, and good prices. I wear jeans to work (office "uniform") everyday, so I like a bit of style, fashion, but not butt crack or underwear!

If you don't have Maurices near you (I'm most familiar with stores in the NE US), you could check their Website. Their Molly style fit real we, with the Kaylee a close second for me. The Taylor rises too high for my taste!

Maurices

Right Fit

I have always had the gap problem. Fashion Bug and Lane Bryant have a brand called Right Fit and they are tailored by body shape.

THIS is the jean I am looking for - low rise, boot cut, and exact wash with whiskering and fading at knees. Just WITHOUT THE GAP!

Have you tried it yet on any of your jeans? I do have that same product sitting in my wish list on Amazon, but haven't ordered it yet. I'm afraid of all the gathering/puckering it might cause on my jeans - same as when you put a belt on loose jeans and then pull tight, lol.
