What is the selection of baked goods at the Java Bar in the Swan like? Any muffins and bagels or just danish and other similar pastries?

They always have a selection of bagels and muffins - towards the end of service they might sell out of the particular type you want, but the offerings are pretty inclusive.

I love the Swolphin!

We were there in December and they were on a couple of the nights. The nights the fountains were not flowing were windy, so maybe that had something to do with it?

Is it worth an extra 1,500 starpoints for a deluxe alcove room? They are 11,500 vs 10,000 for a standard room.

Thanks!

We paid out the extra 1,500 points per night for a balcony room with resort view, which we thought was very worth it! We loved sitting out on the balcony with views of the friendship boats going to and fro, plus the Boardwalk views- even the top of the Eiffel tower in France and a bit of the fireworks at night! But my understanding is that the deluxe alcove rooms do not have a balcony- although they do have extra space. Hope some experts can give you more info- someone posted great photos/info about the deluxe alcove room on this thread, awhile back- maybe a search of this thread will turn up that great info. Good luck!

Some alcove rooms have balconies at the Swan. We really enjoy staying in one and like the extra room with the small "dining area" - round table and 4 chairs. We particularly request the east or west wing. We have been lucky and have been assigned the east wing many times with the last room at the end of the hall. It has so many windows and terrific views.

How long is the walk to DHS from Swan? We have to be there at 7:45am, and the park opens at 9am, so I don't think the boats will be running yet. I just hope the kids can survive the walk without too much complaining!

The walk at a good pace is about 20 minutes. The boats should be operating an hour or so before the park opens.

The boats should be running to accommodate people with breakfast reservations. If not, you can also take a cab.

Thanks for the quick replies. The kids have a YES class at 7:45am, and the info said we'd have to get there on our own. As long as the weather is ok, we'll plan on walking. I'll woo the kids with a Gatorade

Like you said, as long as the weather is nice, it's an enjoyable walk. We rarely ever choose the boat--it just takes too long. Although, we have to ride it at least once per trip somewhere--I'm a sucker for a boat ride

Reading another thread about poor bus service from the epcot resorts. Just how bad is the bus from Swan to MK? We will be doing MK for 2 of our 5 days. Another thread on bus service indicates the bus starts at the swan and then stops at every Epcot resort before finally getting to MK 45+ mins later. Is it that bad?

That's not always the case. It's been my experience for my stays at the Swan during the months of Sept and Oct that the buses for MK and AK only picked up at the Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin. It was about 20 minutes door-to-door from the Swan to the MK.

That said, there are times that the bus route will include the Yacht and Beach Club, as well, but I think that's more the exception than the rule.

What time of year are you going?

We went in June 2011 and were happy with the speed of the bus to the MK. Honestly I can't remember what stops happened after pickup which is a good thing I guess.

Now the bus back from DTD is a different story! It took close to 45 minutes for it to arrive, it was over packed and it felt like we stopped at every Disney resort on the way back. It was so bad that I'm thinking about skipping DTD altogether or getting a cab.

Unbelievable. I had my rate lowered a couple of weeks ago when the rate dropped by $23/night. I just happened to look again and now it's yet another $8/night lower! I feel kind of silly calling about applying the lower rate for only $8 less per night . . . maybe I'll wait it out and see if it drops again.

Anyhow, y'all check your nights/rates again!
