Oh my god that sucks so much!

Yes they can do that, it's usually in their terms and conditions.

I really hope you can get it sorted without too much trouble!!

that must be How did you miss a leg on your itinerary?
Make sure you contact your travel insurance and extend your insurance you do not want to be in the USA uninsured even for 1 extra day

creative ways to get home hey? What does your insurance policy say about when the airline cancels your flight..?

A few days in Hawaii, covered by insurance may be just the "wake up" you need!

Good call on the insurance

Funny story about missing the leg (sort of, if you squint)
When we to NY we flew back direct to LA and not via Orlando, so didn't get that flight, NY was booked with Delta Agents on the phone too using Delta Credit (which I may be using also to get to Hawaii) and I asked them about not getting the flight and they said just don't get it, so I didn't...

I'm waiting for the guy from candid camera to come out...

They haven't done anything to help, in fact their customer service in the terminal was appalling except for the poor girl who served me at the counter, all they need is a cattle prod.
I'm going back to the terminal in the morning, new day, new outcome?
Apparently also all airlines are pretty booked for the next 5 days at least, which is where the problem really lay, by putting us on standby they'd be creating a second standby list, they overbook this flight every night

i'm just going to rock in the corner...

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry! Did you intentionally miss a leg of your trip? I don't understand I am flying Delta too and this makes me feel very nervous I hope it all gets sorted for you and you are not put out of pocket!

Contact delta assist, and also your travel insurance provider, they should cover hotel and rebooking charges.

Delta code share with virgin, so see if they can pop you on one of their flights.

Keep all your receipts etc food, accom, transport, etc....

Make sure you record names of all people you deal with, and also ask to speak to the supervisor, just go straight to the top.
With delta, also ask if you could be voluntarily bumped for the next available flight, that will then cover food and accom until a seat is available, and will take you off standby.

Thinking of you

OMG!!!

Let me get this straight, you booked MEL-lax- MCO return, then added MCO-NYC and NYC-LAX later?

Were you able to get a room for the night?

Crossing everything for you, you will be home soon!!
