DCL Gift Cards = 4X Fuel Pts at Kroger = Onboard Discount

Kroger is doing 4X fuel points for gift card purchases through early April (if you have a Kroger card). I checked a couple of places around the country; it isn't just here.

So....I did the math. The minivan holds 20 gallons. A $50 gift card gets me 200 fuel points, which gets me a $.20 per gallon discount on gas (which I have to buy anyway). 20 gallons x $.20 = $4.00. That makes the $50 gift card a $46 purchase.

If I figure out how much I'm going to spend onboard and buy enough Disney gift cards to cover it (yes, they are good on DCL), I am effectively getting an 8% discount on my onboard charges. I prefer to look at it that way than as a discount on gas!! If you find an error with my math, don't tell me or I'll be sad.

If you live in the Atlanta area, don't go buy all the cards...I'm still going to need some.

oh really, I didn't know they had that one,, I live in Augusta so your cards are safe from me, LOL,, I do get my gas @ Kroger all the time so I love extra fuel points! I need to get at least one GC for our trip,, now it would be awesome if they had the deal of getting like $10 free or something if you bought $100

Not sure if Krogers lets you stack the fuel points but some chains such as Giant Eagle will. The best way to get your money out of this promotion is to get the max amount of gas they will allow. For example we have bought over 10K in gift cards and then used it to pay off our cruise. We did it when they were promoting 20 cents off a gallon for every 50 dollars worth of gift cards. So we ended up with about 2 months worth of free fill ups, and DH would get the max of 30 gallons each time of premium grade. This was also when our CC would allow 5% back on grocery purchases so we got 5% back on the total gift card purchase, which was a nice bonus too.

Previously Sam's had a free $10 gift card (good only for the disney store) with a disney $100 card purchase, we used all the $10 gift cards to do a bunch of FE and christmas gift shopping.

Kroger isnt as good as Giant Eagle for fuel perks! Still hoping they catch on!!

I live North of Atlanta, but I dont need that many gift cards! I just bought a ton last month, I thought the cashier was going to keel over! it took 2 managers to do the sale! 1.00 off at a time is worth it!

If you have a target debit or mastercard..you get 5% off gift card purchases..like Disney Card.

I just about $1000 for the cruise and saved $50..hey that's not bad.
then i bought $1700 of them to pay for my annual passes when i get to the world after my cruise..saved $85...

yes..standing there watching them swipe 32 gift cards will suck..but hey...what else do they have to do!

Well, everyone talks about how Platinum DCL cruisers get 10% (I think that's the number) on purchases onboard and since I don't get that, I figured 8% for the rest of us was nothing to sneeze at. Especially since that's 8% off EVERYTHING (dinner at Remy, drinks, pictures, shore excursions, etc.)!

I try not to think about the price of gas so I just mentally shifted the discount in my head to something more pleasant.

I've used the target debit card to buy enough Disney Gift cards to pay for our cruise, our WDW trip including tickets, resort & dining and now I am buying them for spending money and tips. So far, using the great coupons they offered at Christmas and the 5% savings I have saved over $500 by doing this. That is no chump change in my book....extra spending $$$!

Thanks for posting. I will check our Dillons (Kroger family) to see if they are offering the 4x special. I've been waiting for it to come again since Christmas. I bought about $4K of Disney gift cards to pay off our May Fantasy trip and a variety of store cards over the holidays using the 4x special. The fuel points REALLY added up. Everytime I checked out over that period of time the checkers had to do a double take when reading my points With 3 vehicles in the family and over a 2+ month span, we used every penny of the discounted fuel including filling up the extra tanks in preparation for snow removal with the quad for the snow we just never got this winter.

I also bought Southwest gc cards to buy my airfare......all of these with my Disney Visa, so my benefits were maximized

Now I just want to buy some additional disney gc's to pay for our incidentals/excursions on the trip and to buy some Disney passes for 2 days at DW before the cruise.

Thanks for the heads up!

I buy a $25 gift card every time I grocery shop. It is my own little Disney savings plan. And because my coupons save me about $25, I think of it as a free gift card. Since they have been offering 4x points I've upped it to $50. I will have a nice amount saved for Disney.

If you use a kroger credit card to purchase them you get double points towards gift checks for the store in addition to 4Xfuel points and you can get up to a $1.00 off gas for 35 gallons. Also if you use your kroger cc you get an extra nickle off. They have a deal now if you open a Kroger cc you get and additional .25 when you redeem at least a 100 points which is .10 for 3 months.

If you use Disney gift cards on cruise for OBC do you have to take them to guest services when you board? Can they be added prior to boarding?
