Kids Clubs

I have a question about the kids clubs and my daughter.
We are planning on going next year for our first cruise, she will by then hopefully have been on a insulin pump for about a year.
She will have to test her blood sugar regularly - she knows how to do it on her own with no issues but will the kids club staff assist her if need be, and let her know when its time to do her testing etc.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

I don't know for sure, not having any kids in the clubs, but I think they would be able to remind her to do it, but I don't think they would be able to assist her.

For medical reasons, I don't believe they will be to assist her, however, if you let them know in advance, I'm sure they could remind her and contact you if she needed assistance.

You didn't mention how old she is, but if she uses a watch, maybe you could set it to alarm when it's time for her test her sugar?

I agree with the above--they can remind her about the time, but cannot assist in any way.

We'll be on the Fantasy on April 14th. My 7 yr old grandson is also on the insulin pump, and I was wondering how the club will handle this. Will let you know when we return.

Any information you could provide in regards to how they handle the pump would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot Sagbrook!

Isn't there some medical/special services form to fill out if you need the club staff to be aware of something, like an insulin pump? I admit that I don't know the answer, but thought there was something like this.

My son is diabetic as well and will be joining the kids club. However we will be checking in on him often to check his blood sugar and give him is insulin. Is there a reason why you are not going to be checking in on him to take care of his blood sugar? I don't think it should be the responsibility of the kids club people (they are not doctors or nurses). Also, personally I wouldn't trust any stranger to be responsible for my child's diabetic health.

The form is actually a request for special services or supplies. For example, on the classic ships one might need a real refrigerator (rather than cooling box) for medications. In this case, the family might benefit from a sharps disposal box. To notify the kid counsellors of situations, complete the kid registration.

THey used to be pretty good about cross referencing the kid form and the special needs requests, but I wouldn't count on it.

Any updated information about this? Have you cruised and could fill us in? We'll be in the same situation in October (hopefully on pump by then, DS will be 9 with bit over a year "experience" with T1D).

Been 6 months but I'm still a nervous Mom and suspect I always will be on some level.

We booked our cruise for October of this year so no news to provide. Looking forward to it though.
