Shoes for Discovery Cove?

What water shoes do you recommend for Discovery Cove?

I've seen some that look like a black, wetsuit-like boot (for lack of a better word) which seem to be good for actually IN the water ... and others that are more like sandals (tevas, keens, crocs) but I don't think they would do well in the water, snorkeling, but seem to be good for walking around, aviary, etc.

Or do most people just go barefoot (I can't remember if I read that shoes are required or just recommended ...)

I highly recommend the first choice you mentioned (I call them water shoes ). I felt like they were adequate for walking around the park, although blisters are a possibility.

I'm guessing some people go barefoot, too, as the Discovery Cove website states

Guests should bring their own swimsuits, and, if they choose, water socks or rubber pool shoes, hat, sunglasses and cover-up or dry clothes.

I personally get eeked out by going barefoot at water parks and the like, so I was glad to have my water shoes.

Thanks! I thought I read something about one of the pools being an uneven (maybe rocky?) ground and was thinking having some type of water shoe would be good for that.

Yes, you are right - there are a few of those areas. In parts of the Grand Reef, there are areas where you can stand/sit on very large rocks.

If you are doing the dolphin swim - depending on which group you are in - you may be walking on some rocky areas.

Also, in Wind-Away River, there are certain places where you'll be walking on rocky areas.

Oh , thanks for listing them. Yes, I think I'll get water shoes for my daughter and myself. We can always take them off if we find we dont' need them...but better safe to have them!

I'm going to get some water shoes for our trip this year. We were there last year and I forgot this item and the bottom of the pools were not that bad, it was the hot sand that was a killer

Oooh, another good reason. We are going in July so sand will be hot, too!

Thanks -- you just sealed the deal on my last itty-bitty doubt about purchasing them!

I don't see us using them anywhere else but my DD definitely does complain about hot sand, the few times we've been to the beach.

And those water shoes will add a layer of sun protection for the top of your feet as you're walking around. They give you a little envelope of dolphin safe sunscreen, but it doesn't go very far.
You won't want sunburned feet the next day with your good walking shoes at another theme park.

Go for a nice pair of the water shoes. I always wear these to the beach as they are comfortable and I can go anywhere in them.

I always wear Teva sandals to any water park I visit. You can wear them in the water and right out of the water and they are very comfortable and supportive, whereas regular water shoes will hurt your feet after long hours in them.
