what park best for afternoon half day? (arrival day)

We will be arriving around noon at the airport and i guess not to our room/disney until 3pmish so what would be the best park or thing to do on our arrival day??

MK will be closing early at 7pm for MNSSHP so i am that is out.
AK closes at 5pm so really is it worth it to go?
HS- has fantastic at 7:30pm and closes at 8 possibly park
EP- open until 10pm but will have 2 other full days dedicated to this park also

DTD- no park tickets uses and open super late but we will need to go to bed early.

so what would you pick it will be me and dd, ds 11 and 8 yrs first trip to Disney ever!

Where are you staying? I would go to the Boardwalk and eat dinner there and walk around the boardwalk and then get a good nights rest early.

When are you arriving?

We usually do one of two things. Epcot or DHS for Fantasmic only.

We like to go to Epcot, get a CS dinner and walk around the World ending the evening with Illuminations. It is nice bc then we only need to devote one other day to the front of Epcot and use the extra day to have a day off or do anything we missed somewhere else.

We have also checked in, relaxed for a few then headed over to DHS around 6 to watch Fantasmic. Since it is at 7:30, I would leave your resort around 5:30. We got lucky and were able to do RNRC twice & TOT before we had to get in line for Fantasmic so that essentially freed up another evening for us bc we were able to do DHS at rope drop, do everything we wanted then leave early and have the entire late afternoon/evening to relax, go watch parade & fireworks at MK, swim, shop...whatever you like.

I vote DTD! For our twins first trip this August, we are hitting DTD arrival night and perusing the shops then dinner at Rainforest Cafe. Great way to get the feel of WDW without using a park day on our tickets.

We did the Downtown Disney plan on arrival day and it was perfect. We went to Wolfgang Puck's to eat then browsed World of Disney and the other shops. The kids loved the live entertainment there also.

I never did the Epcot World Showcase plan, but I think it sounds like a good one.

I would stay as low-key as possible, rest up and hit EMH first thing the next day.

Do you have as many or more days of park ticket than you require? I wouldn't burn a day of ticket (or purchase a day) for a couple of hours in the evening.

Dinner, DTD, a resort tour, or one of the onsite resort activities (like the Campfire Sing-along, a pool movie, night-viewing at AKL) would be my preference before heading back to bed.

Another fun (but pricey) idea is an early show at Hoop Dee Doo

DHS and Fantasmic This is a good opportunity to get Fantasmic "out of the way" and allow more park time. If you want to see Fantasmic there may be bad weather days during your stay which could limit opportunities. How early do you really expect to get to sleep on your first day at WDW? You can still be back to your room by 8:30 or so and get settled in.

The crowds are low at the MK during the day when there is a MNSSHP but the last couple of hours before regular closing can be crowded due to the combination of day visitors and guests arriving for MNSSHP.

Our flight arrived around 1pm and had our passes already so went directly to AK with a 7pm closing (main objective to catch last 3pm show of "flight of Wonder"). This worked perfect for our touring plans and AK is practically empty during the late afternoon but if you have to go to the resort and also AK closes at 5pm, this is not a good option.

We always go to Epcot, but we usually get there late morning (or very early afternoon) so it feels like a full park day for us. Since they are open latest, we like to maximize that first day.

We always do Magic Kingdom, but if they close @ 7pm, I would sauggest DTD for dinner and walk around, or hang at your hotel for dinner & enjoy the pool.

We always have to start Disney with MK and Cinderella's Castle. Since that isn't an option here, we would go for ordering in pizza, possibly a bit of play time in the pool and getting to bed early for MK the next day.
