Thanks for the reply's, we have been told by CM that the 2 bed room units only hold 8 but then someone else said 9. I agree 9 would be a bunch of people, so I think it's a studio for the overflow.

Thanks

Moe

Precisely

I am quite sure that DVC would say that everyting they do including changing occupancy is the best interests of the majority of members.
They would not be the final authority and DVC/DVD would not want to stick their neck out. They don't like litigation and they don't like to lose when it happens. They have backed down before in the face of pending litigation, I reference the change in policy to allow those who had free tickets to borrow points and get free tickets with those points in 1999 at OKW.

And, even at OKW, 9 might be problematic.
Now that I think about it, 9 should be legal at OKW as well, now that they have the sleeper chairs. So, Moe, the three resorts that (legally) sleep 9 in a 2BR are: BLT, AKV-Kidani, and OKW. But, OKW has only two bathrooms; BLT and AKV-Kidani have three.

I'm still not sure I'd put that many people in one personally, but you can.

No, I just wondered if anyone has done so, we stayed in a 2 bedroom unit at VWL that was actually quite large, corner unit on 3rd or 4th floor but cannot count on getting that unit again. My bride loves WL and we (9 of us) are staying in late January for 4 nights before going on to the GV's at OKW, Vero, and AK. Like I said we will just get a studio for the overflow... or maybe go to Treehouse's instead, no they don't have the lobby or Fort Wilderness just across the lake.

Thanks

Moe

We are in the planning stages of buying DVC. I ordered the DVD and info packet about 2 months ago (we've since learned to look into resale), so of course I have received follow up calls from DVC. On one of those calls, I specifically asked about booking 5 in a 1 bedroom that allows 4. The first response was, "well, I am just in training right now, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that's not allowed". I was then transferred to someone else (not in training) to go over a different part of the spiel. I asked that person the same question, and received the same answer. When I stated that I had read and heard that this practice was commonplace, I got "I can assure you that this is not an accepted practice within DVC"

I'm going to assume that I just happened to get 2 people completely unfamiliar with this practice, but I find it interesting that it's considered a "sales perk" for families of 5, yet my experience has been the opposite. I actually hung up feeling like I was trying to skirt the rules, which was not at all what I was trying to do (we don't even reuse mugs! )

To be honest, I am with the group that feels like a 2 BR would be more appropriate for a family of 5, but while our 3 kids are still itty bitty, it is nice to know that we have options with the 1 BR for a while.

I feel they should enforce the rule but since they have given an unofficial OK (sales people don't make rules either way) to 5 in a unit, that is currently reality. I'd say the most likely is they were hoping you'd buy more points to get the 2 BR. Certainly as the kids age, a 2 BR will be more appropriate, sooner than later if they're not all the same gender. The best take home message is to read the rules and understand how the system actually works but relying on a sales person for critical information is risky at best.

BCV 1 bedroom

We were thinking of switching our ressie to BCV - specifically a 1 BR. However, there are 5 of us and the occupancy is listed as 4. I would have sworn I had read somewhere on these boards that they allowed 5 in the 1 bedrooms if you are a DVC member staying on points. Does anyone know if that is true and what do I need to know before trying to book this?

They don't provide bedding for the 5th person, but they do allow you to get room keys for all 5.

DVC will allow 5 in all 1-bedroom villas that have a stated occupancy of 4 with the exception of the Values at AKV Jambo House.

Your villa will still only have one queen sleeper sofa in the living room and the king bed in the living room. And four bath towels. No rollaways or cots will be provided. You'll need to bring your own airbed and linens. And the cushions stay on the sleeper sofa to support the foot of the bed.

Thanks everyone. I think we would be ok with the queen sleeper sofa. My kids are still pretty young (6,6, and 8) and should easily fit on it although we may take an airbed along just to be sure. We are planning on getting an owner's locker so maybe we can just store it there. Sounds like we will need to bring along an extra bath towel though or will they let me request an extra one? or pay extra for another one?

You can request and pay for an extra set of towels for $6. Set includes 4 bath, 4 face cloth, 2 hand towels and a bath mat. Probably worth it for a family of 5, especially if one or more of you has longer hair. There is a washer/& dryer in the unit if you care to wash the towels between uses. On your 4th day (check in day is day 1), housekeeping will bring you new towels and take away the used ones.

Will I have to pay the $6 twice : at the beginning of the stay and again when housekeeping changes out our towels? I'll pay it either way, I just like to know for budgeting purposes. Thanks!!

If you purchase the towel pack, housekeeping will not replace it automatically. You would need to request another one.

capacity

Do you think 4 adults, a 6 year old and an infant could stay in a 1 bedroom at BCV?
