Question Bay Lake -Top of the World Lounge

Friends of mine are staying at Bay Lake on my DVC points. They are not DVC members. Will they be allowed to go to the Top of the World Lounge?

it varies. most likely if their room keys say "DVC member," they would be allowed up. otherwise, they would most likely be turned away.

the rules change from time to time so it's probably worth asking to be sure.

I also think it might depend on what time of year they visit. When we went in Jan '10 (very slow time), they were allowing non DVC members up to the TOTW lounge, but only up until 5pm I think was.
Watching the fireworks from the TOTWL is considered a perk for DVC members staying on points.

The CMs at the elevator have been asking for a blue member card. If your friends don't have the blue member card, they will not be able to go up.

The can watch from the fourth floor of the Contemporary if they can't get up to TOTWL.

So we're going in 4 weeks with my MIL on her DVC points - she is a member, we will just have our key cards that say DVC. Does that mean we won't be able to get into the lounge unless she's with us? (or gives us her member card, I guess?)

Just what I said, if you don't have a blue member card and they ask for it, you won't be going up.

We did not need to show any member cards, we simply showed our KTTW cards that said something along the lines of DVC guest. No problem at all.

well that 's only because some of the workers were new & they
had problems with figuring out who should be allowed.

they also closed some of the loop holes.

we're blt owners, & it was a pain when we went because it was so
crowded. if you are not entitled then you know you're "sneaking
in. " we're entitled only because we paid for it. for us, we don't
want to tolerate others that have no right to be there....we like
it being a quite, relaxing atmosphere & where i feel my family is
safe.

they are doing much better job checking for the members' cards.
what i did during our last visit , was to let the workers know
that we are reporting anyone not checking the cards.

it just like resort parking...why should we have to park way in
back , because others are using our parking lot? we have
talk with the problems with member services & we will call
them anytime we see them not do the proper checks. if the
workers fail to do their job assignments, then they should not
be there.

we were very frustrated by the over-crowding in 2009, but
saw a major improvement in 2110. we will continue to report
anything that is effecting our home resort. i would encourage
other owners to do the same.

My wife and I went up as guests of friends staying at BLT right after we just bought into DVC. After seeing the fireworks from the TOTW Lounge, any buyers remorse that we felt evaporated when we saw the fireworks, so "breaking" the rules was a definite plus for us.

I understand your desire to enjoy the amenities of your home resort without having to fight crowds or other people who don't belong there. Personally, I think they should let anyone staying at BLT to go up, regardles of DVC membership. Some of the CM's we met while enjoying the fireworks were lamenting the fact that while the TOTW Lounge is spectacular, it doesn't generate as much business as they would like, simply because of the exclusion policy. I also heard a rumor a while back talking about closing he lounge, but I highly doubt they would do that.

I look at it this way. We belong at BCV, and it wouldn't make sense for non-DVC members staying there to notbe able to enjoy SAB. That's part of the allure of staying there!

RoyDavid, you said you went up with friends. We'll be staying there on points in a couple weeks. Do they check everyone's DVC card or can we bring our friends who are staying at AKL? We're trying to get them to become members.

The rule is they must be staying on a DVC reservation at BLT to go up to the TOTWL. If they are staying at AKL, they don't have a KTTW that says they are staying at BLT. They probably will be denied entry. They may be allowed up.

Not only would Bay Lake Tower guests be effected by that don't forget about Contemporary guests, because they share the parking lots located in front of the Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower.

They did not check our cards when we went up, though I was ready to show them my newly minted DVC membership card! Though I was a bit nervous, I felt comfortable enough to tell them that I was a new member and would like to see if I would like to stay there someday. I don't think I would hgave tried to go up there if I wasn't a DVC member.

Let me also say that we were there in mid-October, so crowds were much lighter than the summer. The Lounge is a great place to really take in all the Disney magic!

How is it any safer? Are the people staying on cash reservations or rented points heathens?
