I have to say too, those pictures are mild in comparison to what was actually going on all around.
Like in those photos you can still see the lawn

the first 2 days we were there our parking lot was empty, aside from the guard that was stationed at the entrance to each and every parking lot checking on who was entering the lot. we didn't think they would migrate into our lot as well, but as the time went on it kept growing. we were fine with all of the mess in the front of the property by the convention center, but we had no idea it was going to grow into what it was. yes, maybe we should have moved to a different resort, but we didn't. we just want others to know what might potentially happen while you're also at CSR and to be forewarned, that's all.

Thanks for posting the pictures, dsw. I have read the reports in the previous years, but the pictures tell everything. I'm a huge CSR fan and frequently tell people that conventions won't disturb them. I do usually add the caveat that the Grainger show is different and they WILL notice the convention during that week, but I had no idea how all-encompassing this convention is. I know they set up tents on the grounds and usually closed the pool for a day or couple of days, but I didn't know the tents were the size of a house!

So sorry your impression of CSR was tainted by this mess. Fifty weeks out of the year, it is a lovely resort, and we have always had great stays there (but we've never stayed there the end of February).

OMG!!! Now im REALLY nervous!!! We check in Friday morning till the 9th. This will be our 1st stay at CSR. I hope it doesnt sway our thoughts on this resort, we have heard such good things about it. I really hope there will be no pool closures because they will have to move us. My boys love the pool and im not gonna pay all this money for them to tell us we cant use the pools or hot tub. Hoping this is over for our trip.

The show ends on the 1st (although the Grainger site said the 28th, which is today). The people should all be gone, so I wouldn't expect pool closures because there shouldn't be any planned Grainger activities. You may still see remnants of tents on the lawns and in the parking lots - I'm not sure how quickly they can get them down, but I would expect the tent suppliers want them down so they can use them elsewhere.

DSW

thanks for doing all of us who have upcoming stays booked at CSR a big favor...when I arrive if I see trucks, tents, forklifts, etc I will ask before checking in how much of the common areas and rooms are involved in the convention, and if it involves lots of outdoor events especially in the evening, closing pools, etc. I will politely ask to speak to a manager and ask be relocated to another resort. The pictures say it all...

What an unfortuante experience We are going during the time of the Tea Party convention. I am wondering how that will be...does anyone have any info regarding this convention or has anyone stayed at CSR while the Tea Party convention is going on? now I am nervous...

I really DO want to live there!
I circulate my paper clips at work so they all get used or I feel like they'd be sad if they didn't get a "turn".

for those wondering about the dates, the letter we received in the room said that the convention was open to customers from 2/26 to 2/28 but then from 2/28 to 3/1 it was open to a different group of people...can't remember who but it was the National ????? (something to the effect that it sounded like a different type of customer)...so all of the set ups should still be up for those guests as well. Since it's still open on the 1st I would assume they start tear down the night of the 1st/morning of the 2nd, but it will take days for them to get all of that stuff out of there.

DSW, thanks for the warning. We love CSR, and have been there a couple of times during conventions. I'd never have known they would have something of this scale.

They really need to think about blacking out these dates and make them "convention only" accomodations. This is a known, planned, huge event, that can't help but have a big impact on non-convention guests. Why they wouldn't, at a minimum, inform you during booking is beyond me. Poor planning and poor customer service.

Those pictures are crazy! Esp considering how much we all pay for our trips. Thanks for the warning! We will NEVER be staying at CSR in Feb or March! We're staying for the 1st time at CSR in May, hopefully there are no huge conventions going on then!
