if you spend a full day, and plan it well - you can cover 'it all' in one day (assumes the park is open late into the night as it is at some summer times . . . )
on the other hand I don't think 2 days is required . . . it is a 1 and 1/2 day gig so do two but don't worry about packing the first the secret for me is getting the show schedule as soon as we arrive and scheduling our day ... the shows flow into natural rythms, if you follow that - you see a lot but move like lemmings with the pack. If you drop out of the flow for a meal .... ooops .... you've added time to the plan. Two days allows you to be 'vacationing' . . .

2nd day always free. and you will need 2 full days to do it right. get your 1 day ticket validated at the customer service in the park. 2nd day free, parking not free 2nd day

Just got back. We did it in one day and they were only open from 10-7. We missed one show (the cirque type show) and we did not ride either rollercoaster, but we probably could have since we spent a lot of time looking at aquariums, in the kids area, eating, and hiding from a rain storm. We did the sky tower, fed the dolphins, saw 4 shows, road the log flume, did a couple hours in the kids area, and saw every other attraction. I would call this a one day park for sure, but go from open to close.

It depends when you are going. If you are going during a slow time of year like the poster above did, then yes it can be done in a day. If you go during spring break, summer or around the Christmas season, there are extra just at night shows and attractions that start around 7pm and last until 10pm that night. In those busy season, SeaWorld is definitely a 2 day park.

I would definitely plan to take advantage of the 2nd day free so that we wouldn't feel rushed, especially if we were going to SW during a busy time or over the summer. Two days would give us the opportunity to see all the shows, ride the rides, spend time in the Shamu's Happy Harbor area (we have young kids), and tour the exhibits at a relaxed pace. I could understand not being able to take advantage of the 2nd day free at SW if we were squeezing in time for SW during a WDW trip or if we only had one day to go to SW before or after a cruise, but otherwise I would definitely utilize the 2nd day free benefit

I would also say to utilize the 2nd day if you can. First time we went, on our first day we saw most of the shows and exhibits. We didn't really do any of the rides. The one show we didn't get to really see was Believe. We went to the last show of the night, but the whales weren't up to performing so they canceled the show. We went back a couple of days later. We had a paid for the Dolphin Nursery Tour in the morning (no longer offered). We did our tour in the morning. The rest of the day we spent doing the rides and got to see Believe. So for us, the 2nd day came in handy. And we didn't have to rush through it. So yes, you can see it all in one day. We just extended our day out to 2 days to take our time.
