Hi sweetie
As my dear friends here have already said, you can easily walk from the BW to the Swan!!
As far as renting DVC points is concerned, I highly recommend using David (link below)

http://www.dvcrequest.com/

He is a tad more expensive ($13.00 per point I think), but acts as a 'middle man' between seller and renter, and offers a guarantee. If you privately rent points, it will be cheaper, but you hear horror stories of things going wrong and guests getting to resort and not having a reservation etc. I have rented my DVC points to others through David, and had no problems at all!! He is a sponser of the Disboards and very highly thought of here!!
Good luck!!!

Deena, Jilian, and Jo

You girls are lifesavers!!!!! Thank you so much for the information! I totally get it all now and I will now start stalking the DVC boards as well, hoping to snag a good deal!

I talked to my mom about renting points and she's very leery about doing it, but I convinced her that it was kind of pointless to stay at "Motel 6" when you can stay at the Hilton. Ok, not quite the Hilton, but still better than a Value in my opinion. I think DF and I decided on OKW since it seems the rooms are a little bigger for getting ready than BWV. They might not be bigger by much, but any extra space helps! If I'm wrong about the size difference, let me know!

And I came to the solution with the photography. If we stay at OKW, then we will do our "first looks" there. Any suggestions on a nice location there to do that? Then we will drive to CBR and the Poly and do pictures there. Any suggestions on places for good pictures at either place will be really helpful!!! We will have about 2 - 2.5 hours to get the pictures done and drive to the Swan. Then we'll have our ceremony at 4 and then do pictures with the kids either at the Boardwalk or around the Swan. After that we'll be having dinner at Il Mulino. It all came together and I feel a huge load of stress has been lifted now lol!

Now I just have to figure out a way to get from OKW to the CBR, Poly, and Swan! My parents will have their van (which we're all driving down in together) and everyone else will have their own transportation to get to the Swan since they won't be on as much of a time crunch as we will be. So that leaves me with renting a limo (expensive), renting a Towne Car (still kind of expensive), taking a taxi or using the bus (I feel a little skeevish getting into a taxi or on the bus in my dress! ) Are there cheaper options out there that I am not thinking of?

So I'm kind of in a lull right now. I still haven't emailed the harpist or the bakery. I've been trying to talk to DF about it, to hear his opinion, but we have so much other stuff going on it's hard to find time to even think right now. I've been so focused on trying to make resort reservations that I'm driving myself crazy! I thought I had it all figured out, but then I think of something else that makes me want to change everything.

I had originally wanted to rent points from someone and stay at OKW. I thought I had people convinced to stay there and save money, but I keep hearing "buts". But it's still so expensive! But what if we can't go? But what if there is a PIN or a discount later on? But what if we get scammed? Ugh! I found an Ok deal at $11 a point, but that seems so high. And I know if I wait, the rooms will be gone and I won't get as good a deal and I'll have to settle for a Value. I thought about doing a split stay, but I don't want to be moving all of our stuff half way through our trip and I really don't think it's going to save me any money in the long run.

So I got back on the thought of our wedding pictures. I was so set on having a tropical look to them, until DF asked if there was any place we can go to get "Disney" pictures? He said since we're getting married down there, it might be a good idea to have pictures that reflect Disney as well. Well, sure, let's just give me one more thing to think about lol! So I looked around on here and found that we can get "Disney" pics at the Poly. Nice and tropical like I had originally wanted, plus we can get the castle and space mountain in the background on the beach, and the monorail pics I wanted. So I'm back to being dead set on having our pictures done at the Poly. Someone had mentioned on another thread that I probably won't have enough time though to do our first look at OKW (if that's where we stay) and go to the Poly and be at the Swan in time.

Ideally I want to just stay at the Poly, but there is no way we can afford it, even if we do a split stay and just stay there the night before and the night of the wedding. Can anyone offer any advice on what to do? Can I get from OKW (or CBR if I give into my want vs. need) to the Poly, do pictures around the resort, and get to the Swan in 2.5 hours? Maybe I should add on an extra hour to my photography contract? And is there any transportation (besides the bus or a taxi) that we can hire for a few hours to get around? The limo and towne car are too expensive through the wedding planner, so I was looking for a cheaper company to use if there is one.

Please tell me that this is the hardest part of the the whole wedding planning

Have you tried calling Mears for transportation options? They were the most affordable IMO. Ask about one way trips in their 8 passenger luxury vans or even a town car.

If you are nervous about getting scammed just rent from a point rental place. They have access to thousands of points, they will get you a reservation and even if the owner royally screws something up they guarantee to get you another reservation to replace it. I've never heard of a horror story from the timeshare store. Not once.

We've stayed at CBR. If you go to their main building (Old Port Royal) there are some nice photo opps overlooking the water there. Just behing the cabana bar is a spot that overlooks the water. Then the beach is right to your right there too. They have palms, a hammock, etc. The main walking areas a pretty. There is a bridge right behind old port royal that might make for nice pictures too.

As Jilian says, an outside company such as Mears will probably do you a good deal on the transport, and this would be the best option, I think, given the time constraints. Who is your photographer? If it is Randy, I know he will have ideas that will help!!
It may be worth considering doing the 'first look' at the Poly too. You could travel there seperately. Your DF could travel there on Disney transport (maybe bus to MK and then monorail) and you could get a taxi. Your photographer could set up your first look at a nice spot at the Poly. That would certainly save time, but maybe you have your heart set on the 'first look at the CBR.
Good luck with figuring it all out!!

Just checking in to say hi

Have you thought about renting a car for a day?? They have rentals at the Swan/Dolphin. Then you can dictate your own time the day of!

Don't be overwhelmed. If you ever want to sit down and work out Disney details with someone who understands.... I can't imagine that I'm more than a half hour away. I'd be happy to meet for Starbucks or Panera

Deena, you are so sweet! Thank you so much for the offer! It's reassuring to know that there are girls out there who have gone through the same issues and we can all help each other out! If I ever need anyone to sit and listen to me pull my hair out, I will be sure to take you up on your offer

I will be glad to announce to everyone that my sanity is now back in check, and a crisis has been averted! I officially booked our resort stay a little while ago and I have been doing this ===> since then!! After smacking my forehead against the wall for a week, my moment of clarity came through the other night. All this time, I had been talking myself out of a split stay because I kept adding the two costs together! I was adding a full week at a value PLUS 2 nights at a deluxe! DUH!!! I sat down yesterday and figured it up and discovered that if DF works just 4 days of overtime this year then we can split our stay!! I found a PIN code on a mailer that I got last month and sure enough, it was for a room-only discount of 20%! Not great, I would have loved to have 30%, but I'll take it! So we are now officially booked for ASMovies from 12/8-12/11, moving to the POLY 12/11-12/13 (), and then moving back to ASMovies 12/13-12/15! I am so excited, I can't stop smiling!

I justified my extra spending by telling myself that if we rented points from someone, the best deal would have been about $850 for the week. It was going to cost me another $150 to add an extra hour to my photography package, and then about $250 to rent a town car to drive us around for 4 hours. So it evened itself out, and now I get to stay at the Poly for 2 nights and then we don't have to travel there to get our pictures done and we can do our first looks and everything!! Now I'll be scouring the resort board and photography board looking for places for us to have our first look. Any suggestions are welcome!!

In other news, I got ahold of the harpist, Christine MacPhail. She told me she was available for our date, but I would have to go through JM and our planner to book. I was really hoping to save a few dollars by booking with her directly, but I guess she's not doing that for Swan weddings anymore?

I also sent off my email to the bakery to see if they have the availability to make our cake. We really loved the sound of the Exotic Orange Cake that the Swan offers, but we don't want to pay big $$ for a topsy-turvy cake through them. So I questioned the bakery if they could make the mango-passion fruit mousse. I hope they can do it! We decided that would be our top tier and then a Marble cake with Raspberry filling for our bottom tier. Sounds delish to me! We'll see what they say.

So here's my next dilema... I currently have in our contract with JM 2 small pedestals with 2 large floral planters on top for the decorations for the ceremony. They are going to cost about $450 My mom questioned me on if we can make our own and take them with us (we're driving down) to help cut back on costs. I have no idea if we can even do that? Does anyone out there know the answer before I email my planner?

There are lots of lovely places at the Poly for a 'first look'. Sunset Point would be perfect if there were no wedding going on there at the time.
Below are a couple of photos we took at Sunset Point during our TTD session

I believe that you would be allowed to make your own arrangements (not entirely sure as I didn't investigate too much - silk flowers and I are not the greatest of friends), but I am not sure how keen the florist would be to rent you out the pillars with no business coming to them from floral. You may be able to rent the pillars from another source though. It's certainly worth doing some research.
It's a shame that you are unable to book Christine independently now!! It may be a rule imposed by the Swan to increase her bookings through them. I guess she would not want to risk missing out on any future business from them by going against this.
Do you mind my asking how much JM charges for Christine's services through them?

Congrats on booking your stay!!

I tried to make my own pedestal arrangements, you can read all about my disaster in my PJ. It was a nightmare, they looked like a mess and I put a lot of money into it before throwing in the towel and asking Karen for a quote from Petals by design. We're getting pedestal arrangements for $125 each. They are nothing too big, just garden rose arrangements in mercury bowls. I guess it all depends on what you're getting, ask your planner for ways to cut costs. Maybe switch flowers. I initially wanted peonies, but they are really expensive so we went with a look alike for a lot less. I'm getting a whole floral package including delivery and setup for $628.

I am surprised about Christine as well. I just booked her last month on my own.

So happy you have your resort reservations all set!

Hi! I'll be following along with your planning!

I must confess that my biggest fear is sending out invites to a "destination" VR and finding out that most guests can't make the trip!

I love your date -- 12/12/12 -- it's sure to be lucky!!

Hooray for booking your stay. I know split stays can seem crazy but take a look at mine! 5 resorts ugh but sooo exciting. Anyway sorry about the harpist we are only doing an AV setup for an ipod so we did not have that experience of booking a musician. My pedestal arrangements are $85 and my pedestal rental is $35 for the pair. My arrangements are going to be peacock feathers, electric blue dendrobium orchids, kale and purple freesia in a big whimsical design with no real true shape. I am not sure who is doing your flowers but that seems like a lot of money to me.

After looking at a ton of pictures from the Resort threads and Photography boards, I agree that Sunset Point would be perfect to do our first look. I've never been to the Poly, even to walk around, so I've been trying to imagine us there and how it would all look lol!

Do you mind my asking how much JM charges for Christine's services through them? I do believe that my packet says $400/hr that I got back in December. The price may have gone up a little, but I'm waiting to hear back from Erin on the final price.

I read through your PJ the other night and I don't think that I have the patience to do my own arrangements. You're right that it can be a total nightmare! I am ok with doing my bouquet and my MOH's bouquet, and the pomander for my daughter. And 3 small bouts for the guys. But large arrangements are more than likely out of the question. I emailed my planner this morning about a smaller arrangement I found on the Petals by Design site. They are $85 on there and that is more in my budget! We'll see what she quotes me.

After hearing so many girls booking her on their own, it was just odd to hear her throw around the JM name, almost like she was trying to sell me on them. I had never even mentioned that I was already using them either. And I am so glad that I got the resort drama out of the way! Huge weight off my shoulders!

Thanks for joining in, Kathy! You know what's funny? My biggest fear was thinking that EVERYONE would be making the trip!! Our budget is so small, I knew there was no way we could afford for 100+ people to come down for the wedding! I was a little upset at first, but now I'm so relieved that there are only going to be 10 of us total! I sent out a Pre-RSVP, so-to-speak, a while back and that really helped me judge how many people were really honestly considering going. I seriously went from to to in a matter of 2 weeks!!

I agree that the flowers seemed really high. I think it's because they were really big, and when I look back at the picture I had originally sent, there are a LOT of Birds of Paradise in the arrangement! I'm sure that's what jacked the price up. Hopefully Erin will be able to work with the florist to cut the cost on the flowers! The flowers you have described sound beautiful, btw! I can't wait to see pictures of them! And I'm excited about the split stay. You're right, it can be crazy, BUT I get to stay at the Poly for 2 days and I already know that I'm not going to want to leave!!
Ok everyone! I'm going to write up my post after lunch, but I GOT MY DRESS!!! So be prepared for a picture heavy update later! I'm uploading all of the pictures from my phone as I type, and I just have to talk to someone about them! I'm sure the girls at work and my MOH are so tired of hearing me ramble lol. And DF is banned from touching my phone and from touching my laptop until after the wedding Oh, the things we do to keep the suspense going!

Warning: Really long post ahead! Take all necessary precautions!

So I went dress shopping on Saturday with my mom and MOH. We went to the Alfred Angelo store since they were having their spring sale! (Gotta love coupons!) Our appointment was for 10am, right when they open. So when the sales girl unlocked the door, I had a moment where I felt like I was at Filene's and the Running of the Brides! There were about 5 of us there for bridal gowns, and another 6 girls, at least, there for Bridesmaids dresses. It was nuts! I gave my consultant, Megan, my list of dress styles that I was really interested in. One was discontinued, so that took my list down to 4. She pulled another 2 that she thought I should try based just for grins, lol!

Megan was just the nicest thing! She was incredibly helpful, wasn't uptight and you could shoot the stuff with her all day if she would have had the time. In some of the pictures, she looks like she's hungover and doesn't want to be there, but I blame all of that on my MOH who was taking the pictures. She wasn't completely schooled on my phone and how to work it.

This is probably why I look so darn weird in all of the pictures, lol! I'll go over the dresses that I tried on in order from least favorite to THE dress.

Dress #6, the LEAST favorite! This dress looked horrible on me! I felt like I had just pulled this dress out of an attic! I know that the Ivory, Cream, whatever color was the total reason for that feeling, but then there was just everything else about it. When my mom pointed out that it made my hips and butt look HUGE and that it really wasn't doing anything to flatter my gut, I turned right back around to the dressing room and pulled it off. No thank you!

Dress #5. This dress wasn't too bad. I really liked the petaling on the bottom when it was hanging on the rack. I didn't like the way it looked when I had it on though. And the sash it came with, had a flower on it, had to go. Ugh. Megan replaced it with a much better sash with some rhinestones on it and it looked a lot better. I apologize for my reaction in the picture. I have NO idea what I was talking about, but whatever it was, I was obviously against it lol!

Dress #4. I liked this dress! It was really cute, but I really wasn't feeling the train. I was trying to stay away from long trains for various reasons. But Megan and my MOH kept trying to sell me on the fact that no matter how long the train was, I could still do a bustle and have it pulled up and out of the way and just wear it like that all day. These dresses were heavy enough as it was, so to have all of that extra weight of the train pulled up and hanging off my butt all day just did not sound appealing.

Dress #3. Going into Saturday, this dress was my MOH's favorite. She really wanted me to get this dress. It was very similiar to dress #4, but the train was not as long. Still heavy. Still trying to sell me on the bustle. But, this is the exact shade of blue that I wanted to the dress to have, so I was glad that I could see the way the color looked against my (really pale!) skin.

Dress #2. So here's where the decision making got really hard! When I first looked at this dress, I didn't realize how long the train was. It's super long! BUT, I loved the chevron design around the waist and under the bust! It really made my waist look smaller and drew the attention away from my gut. It was unfortunately the heaviest dress I had tried on the whole day. Even with a bustle, this dress was going to be murder lugging it around all day. But I liked the way the top made me look so much that I was almost willing to ignore the train and just buy it. It was $200 more than what I had initially budgeted, so there was that factor, too. But I just kept going back to a dress I had tried on earlier that morning.

Dress #1. THE dress! The one! Numero Uno! I had tried this dress early on since it had been my favorite from day one. I figured that if I tried it on initally and hated it, then I still had plenty of dresses to try on and make a decision. Well, that really backfired on me, because I LOVED it! This was the only dress that I tried on that I didn't fit into right off the rack (except for my small top which had to be clipped) so it was clipped and pulled a lot in the back. So you don't get a very good look at the corset back that's on it, but I'm sure you get the idea. There's hardly any train, and the dress weighed almost nothing! There is also stitching around the beadwork that will match the Marine Blue that I picked out. I loved that little detailing that no other dresses had. When I had first walked out of the dressing room, and the inital shock of me being in a dress had worn off, I could just tell by my mom's face that this was the one. Even though she had only seen me in one other dress, that was the look I had been waiting for. I hadn't even looked at myself yet and I knew, lol! My MOH really liked it, everyone seemed to like it. I ended up trying it on twice just to be sure and I was. So, I said YES to the dress!!

So then I do the girly-est thing ever. I wake up Sunday morning and I bust out into tears because I had a serious case of buyers remorse!! I just kept sitting there, looking at the pictures and thinking about how much I didn't like the dress I picked, and that I really should have just went with the other dress. After about an hour of sitting there, trying to talk myself back into why I picked the dress that I did, I realized what I didn't like about it. It wasn't the dress. I LOVE the dress! And I know I will love it even more when it's in my color and altered for me. It was my HAIR! I had pulled my hair up the second time I had tried it on to try and convey my hair idea to my mother. I didn't like the way the dress looked with my hair up, so problem solved! And it's as simple as just leaving my hair down for the wedding. Whew! Another crisis averted!!

Which brings me to today. Nothing really new to report. I emailed the planner and had her add the harpist onto our contract. Note to JoAnne -- Christine through JM is $375 for the hour. And I also am having her check to see if the florist can do a smaller version of the flower arrangements just to see if we can cut the cost. I'm hoping to spend no more than $250 on the arrangements. My mom really wants to do them herself, so then I can just save them for the at-home reception next year. But I don't want the hassle of making them, taking them down there, and bringing them back. I'd rather just pay someone to do them for me and then I'll make new ones next year!

And I finally got ahold of the bakery! They quoted me an awesome price on a 3-tier topsy turvy cake that will serve 32. I know that's 3 times more cake than we need, but it's cake! It WILL get eaten lol! Although I think Heather (or Jay, not sure?) and I weren't exactly seeing eye to eye on what we wanted for a design. I had asked if we could tell them one or two of our favorite Disney things, and give them free reign on designing the cake and incorporating those things into the design. We wanted to be totally surprised by our cake and not have one just picked out of a book. KWIM?? She tells me that they can't put any Disney characters on the cake because of copyrights. Duh. I knew that! I apologized, and I explained myself a little better. We didn't want actual characters on the cake (because we knew they couldn't do that!), but we wanted suggestive hints to our favorite things. Here's the example I used: My favorite character is Dumbo. I thought it would be cute to put on one of the tiers a little fondant circus tent, some peanuts, or even his signature red and gold clown ruffle worked into the design. Does that make any sense to anyone!? DF's favorite movie is Fantasia. Maybe a tier that is blue with white stars, like Mickey's hat, and then have little brooms or mushrooms (his favorite!) placed around the tier. *sigh* I think I'm just asking for too much. I just didn't want a standard topsy turvy cake. I wanted something that was more "us". I think I'm going to make our own cake topper though. I have a really great idea to make one out of polymer clay, and I'm going to try and work on it this weekend. Yeah, we'll see how that goes.

Yay! You look beautiful! And I can't wait to see YOUR dress with that beautiful shade of blue. Totally understand about the train. The ones that I tried on that had the train, I felt like I had a giant tail.
