I have never been snorkeling and I'm also afraid of sharks. I'm going to try it out at cateway cay. For me, there is nothing more reassuring than to know that it's Disney.

We just had the best excursion on St. Martin during our New Years Eve cruise. Soualiga Destinations run by Captain Bob Cass is an excellent way to spend your time on the Island.

Capt Bob has a few speed boats that will take you around the island to various snorkeling excursions and a excellent lunch in Grand Case.

Our captain for the day was Chris and even though we had rough seas he was able to get us through to all of the sites.

We just got off the Fantasy yesterday. We went to Divi bay in St. Maarten and Magen's bay in St. Thomas. They were both wonderful. Divi bay was very quite and away from all the people constantly trying to sell you stuff. Magen's bay was very calm waters and you could see the fish. It was busy, but we went to the end of the beach and it was better and pretty quiet. I really wanted to check out St. John's beaches, but was very happy in St. Thomas. They were both great for swimming for my 6 and 8 year olds.

We are booked for our 1st Eastern on the Magic in Nov.!!!
Our kids will be 15, 12 and 7 when we go. I know our budget will be very tight.
Any suggestions for things we can do that everyone will enjoy w/o breaking the bank?

Read my post above yours. I would recommend a couple beach days.

Thanks! If we bring along snorkels and masks are there some cool fish there for the kids to see?

Also, good beaches in San Juan? How do you get to them as well?

Easy! There are tons of shuttles/taxis as soon as you get off the ship.

Yes a taxi. But, be careful of the open air, the roads are very steep and lots of turns. The drivers go very fast and I had to hold on to my 6 year old tight.

Yes, both beaches had some rocky areas that had fish around them. Magen's bay had tons of small ones everywhere too. Divi bay had a snorkeling area that people said had awesome fish. I went to check it out with regular goggles and saw a few large fish. I couldn't really do it well without equipment. Both places had snorke rental also. Divi bay was $10.

Godfrey Tours ST Thomas

Anyone have any input on the Godfrey Tours? Looking at this for the shopping/beach that they offer.

Silly question but I've not snorkled before...do we need fins along with mask and snorkle or no fins? I am looking at bringing our own masks and snorkles, being a nurse I question how well the snorkles are cleaned with the rentals. So fins or no fins? Thanks!

Do note that Disney posts signs on Castaway Cay that there are or could be inherent dangers in the water including but not limited to jellyfish, sea lice, rays, SHARKS, etc.

Bottom line is, it's the ocean and sea. While there are nets up, nets can be breached. There is no sign for the sea life: "Attention sea life - SHARKS this means you too! - You are entering Disney Waters. Please don't." You're in their world.
