The DVD is Amazing!

While it's not for kids (though we haven't yet forced Ashleigh to watch any with us), the guy doing the narrating does a great job keeping me interested! We watched a session last night that was introductory in nature, then moved on to the Acropolis. It was made clear what it was that we were looking at and the significance was explained as well. This guy is an archeologist, but isn't dry at all! The only problem I'm going to have is watching all of them before I have to return the series to the library! There are a total of 24 30-minute lectures to watch.

In waiting not-so-patiently for this to arrive from the library (it was marked as "in-process" forever!), I googled it and found used copies on Amazon for almost $250! So....check your local library!

And.....

Last night we officially completed the 1st of 3 sections of our Spanish software course!!! Yay!! Not that we can quickly form sentences, but we've got a great grasp of some solid vocabulary!!

I backed up my computer before we headed to the next session. :roll eyes: Don't want to find out the hard way that we're going to have another issue...

I have heard of them, but other than using them for research, I haven't done anything with them yet. Not sure if it was here or on our meets thread, but someone brought this site up and said you could find some great deals and was very happy with them. I was comparing stuff for Rome and found that another direct site was cheaper. I, personally, think its another resource for reading reviews for planning purposes. Not sure I'd book a tour thru it. I know they have a "guarantee", but I like actually being able to directly work with a company. Fear of the unknown, I guess. I think that if I was stateside and not worrying about missing a boat or having a language barrier I might be more willing to try it.

It was another Rick Steves day! . We made the trek down to Edmonds today for "art and history 101" and "making French crepes". Yes, we got to taste them! And, we got to try and make them! I have pics of Sean and Ashleigh going up to give it a go. We had one of the regular tour guides hosting the class, but the chef was from a little bistro down the street. He'd moved here from France several years ago and set up shop! Had he not been open for lunch on Saturdays we'd have gone straight there for lunch! This was actually the second class we attended, and it was held in the same back room of the travel store we'd gone to for the last class. The bonus was that this time, the class only had about 16 attendees. That was kind of a surprise, but the weather was also pretty good, so maybe people took the opportunity to be outside?

Anyway, we got to have a crepe filled with Beef Bourgione and then a crepe Suzette! Yummy! And, since there were leftover crepes since the class was so small (he'd pre-prepared some), we got to take some home! Guess who's having a nutella crepe with strawberries for breakfast? That's right! Mmmmmmmmm!

The first class was held at the Edmonds theater, literally just around the corner. The guy who lectured was the friend that went with Steve on that first backpacking trip he did after high school. GREAT lecturer. Ashleigh's interest was held the entire time. He started with Stonehenge and went thru history showcasing how art developed stylistically thru time.

Had we needed anything, they had Italy on sale 20% off and has a $10 off coupon. Sadly, nothing on our list to buy there. We had other errands to run while we were that far south. And besides, I just spent more money last night on another interim payment toward the cruise as the Disney Visa bonus points stops any minute now. Wanted to get just a bit more in......

We went by REI on our quest. Not having been to this particular store for a while (last time was in Bellingham, north instead of south), and I wanted to check out the camera bags. Still, same craptastic selection. I commented on this to an employee, and he agreed and added that there are photographers on staff that also dislike what's carried. I think I'm going to email REI and tell them why it's a bad choice for their store. Might not do any good, but who knows. I'd prefer to shop there if I can, so I can work on that annual dividend!

Ashleigh brought along her pacsafe bag today as a catchall for all her stuff. She did ok with it. Poor kid was a bit off today.. Came down with another cold .

So, some food for thought...

The lady doing the class this weekend noted that she'd been in Mykonos, so after the class I asked her about the port area. Essentially, it looks like there's 2 options. The first is that the ship docks and the new port. This port is a little over a mile from the old town area. I've googled this, and I've caught references to cruise lines offering a shuttle to the downtown area (much like Juneau, it sounds like, for those of you who have done Alaska). Whether that shuttle is free or not will be anyone's guess. The other option is that it would be a tendered port, with the tender boats heading to the old port area, conveniently located by the old town area and the dock for boats to Delos. I tried finding a port schedule online, but so far have not had any success. Anyone have any suggestions on how to find this?

DCL has us being there from 0800-1830. It seems like a really quick stop for such a sight-intensive area. But all the ports seem that way this time around.

How nice that you have family there....any chance they'll pick you up at the port and do a personalized tour? How awesome would that be??

Who loves Mickey mail???

Me! Me! Got home after sitting thru jury selection process (not chosen) to find the welcome mail! Granted, there's nothing in it I didn't already have the info for, but it makes me smile anyway! I did wonder, however, why it took 3 months after booking the cruise to get it out. I was figuring it was going to be for the cruise Sean and I just booked for the end of September. Which means in a few months I'll have more Mickey mail!!! Yea!!!!

Now that is nice! I'm worried about the signage and stuff being so different...literally "Greek to me". I have visions of getting lost and not being able to get to the ship on time. :0!

And on a sad note, my beloved sewing machine, creator of many an outfit, was officially pronounced dead today.
