We are booked for the Med again in 2013 and will likely stay there again.
The more I read about apartments, the more we are seriously thinking this is the way to go for us. I like what you say about feeling as if you're part of the neighborhood. I told DH that I'd like to go back to London some day and rent an apartment for a month just so I could pretend I live there. I felt the same in Vancouver, and am looking forward to a similar experience in Barcelona.

We stayed at the Barcelona Catedral Hotel in June 2011 and it was wonderful!!! It was literally across the street from the Barcelona Cathedral and just a couple blocks from Las Ramblas. It was far enough from Las Ramblas to be quiet but close enough to walk over there to go to the little grocery store or see the sites. The staff were fabulous and the rooms were very nice. We had adjoining rooms with our DD22 and DS18 in the room right next to us. It had a lovely rooftop pool and hot tub, and had 4 computers right off the lobby for free internet access.

I was wondering what hotels DCL has used in the past for their pre-cruise hotels. We sailed in 2007 and booked with DCL but booked late and were put at the "overflow" hotel which was further away from where we would've liked to stay. I know they may not use the same hotels but we were trying to get an idea of where we might stay.

Or if you booked your pre-cruise hotel on your own, where did you stay? We are a family of four and we realize we'll likely have to have two rooms, but we have heard there are some that can accommodate four in a room. I'm working on compiling a list of possibilities so we'll be ready when it's time to decide if we want to book through DCL or on our own.

Thanks.

There's also a Marriott right by the airport that I think a lot of people used if they were just coming in for 1 night pre-cruise. I believe they offered a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel. They also offer a shuttle into the city and a cruise package that includes a ride to the port.

I would say it would be possible without luggage but I would not want to be rolling my bags all the way there. I ran towards the cruise terminal that morning and that's when I made the choice to take a cab. I don't remeber the cab fare being expensive.

Does DCL transfers only to and from hotels they used?

We were on the Magic's 2010 EBTA, which had a port day in Barcelona before disembarkation the next day. We walked from the ship, over the bridge to Las Ramba and Plaša Catalunya. That afternoon we walked back to the ship.

We were fine with the walk without luggage. I would not attempt it with more than one wheeled bag per person.

I stayed at Hotel Continental in Barcelona before my WB Trans-Atlantic Cruise. I believe it's rated about three stars. The rooms are small but clean with and painted an ugly pink color, however I did love the location (right on Las Ramblas) and I enjoyed the free 24 food, drinks (juices, milk, soda, wine and beer) and wonderful staff. Next time I return to Barcelona I'm not sure if I would stay at this location but nevertheless I have no regrets about staying at this hotel.

Yes, of course! We were on the same cruise. It had a very active roll call, and was a fantastic cruise.

Do you remember the spectacular fireworks show launched on shore the night we arrived at Barcelona? Awesome.
