Does anyone remember (especially the long-time DISboard members)...

...first hearing (or reading the news) that confirmed Disney was going to build two new ships?

I remember (as if it were yesterday) receiving the email. (I can't remember if it was 2006 or 2007) but I DO remember thinking.."Wow! By the time both ships are complete, Rachel (our daughter) will be 17 and have only one year left of high school!" I was beside myself with excitement though. When I read the email and SQUEALED to my DH..."Disney's building two new ships! It's confirmed! They won't be ready until 2011 and 2012. Come read this!"

The thought of waiting 5+ years seemed like an ETERNITY. Looking back now, it seems as if it were only yesterday. Now, both new ships are in Port Canaveral. Unbelieveable! (sp?) Does anyone else here remember hearing/reading the official announcement? Didn't 2011 and 2012 seem like forever?

Right there with you. It was so exciting but seemed like forever away. My DS was so much smaller then, and now we are about to cruise one of those wonderful ships for his HS graduation.

Scary thought, but by the time they build the next two I might be making plans to take my grandkids!

I think I remember watching a video of it on GMA the next morning when Tom McApline was in a full DCL cast meeting in their rotunda and he help up his hand and said "Build two new ships" then lots of cheering, then I had to go to school.

That seems to be my recollection of how I found out. I was so excited!

I'm on Twitter! @DCLdude

You know what this means right? Time is going faster and faster as we get older! I cannot believe the Fantasy will sail her maiden voyage in 23 days! It seems like it was only yesterday the new ships were announced and I too thought, "Wow, that is a long time away." Scary!
