I should know this since I did get it for him for Christmas last year. I want to say a Nikon D3100? Is that a camera? He will be listening to but not swapping tips as I am sure he doesn't have any. He does love to play around with it though. Last April, he took pictures at 3am on the Fantasy to grab shoots when no one was around. This will be great as DH is a child and needs to be entertained every second. I am really worried about this because his best buddy (my 10 yo nephew) won't be coming along to occupy him. He barely made it 14 days with him and this has more sea days and no Luke.

Send him to our cabin....roflmao.....my DH is up until all hours, exactly why he doesn't want to get up in the morning.

Yes, that is a camera. The three am pics sounds like something mine would do.

My DH can talk his ear off.

You might regret that statement! DH is a very earlier riser so I will keep him away from your cabin in the AM.

While your DH can talk his ear off, mine will sit there and just listen. He is a man of few, and I mean VERY FEW words. He will warm up after a few days and might chat if it is something that really interests him and he is knowlegable about. But he loves being around people and doing activites. I don't get it...

My husband Richard is 36 and also works at a different hospital. His main requirement for a holiday is that there are places that he can walk to avoid cabin feaver.

This is Richard's first cruise, and my second, although the first was a school trip on a ship with the decor and facilities of a cross-channel ferry!

We have been married four months today, and we are so looking forward to spending time together.. work is such an inconvenience!

We are flying from Manchester to Heathrow then on to Houston... at the moment planning on arriving on 16th May to allow us time to recover from the flight, and possibly to go to the Space Centre.

At the moment we haven't booked our return to Manchester from Barcelona... it's looking like it could be expensive as it's the end of the UK half term holidays.

so excited to be joinging you all!
Welcome aboard, Ruth and Richard!! It will be a "fantabulous" cruise!!

If you are looking to stay in Galveston, we have a group rate at the Tremont. One family from London is arriving there on Wednesday and I believe someone else arriving on Tuesday. Our rate there is $135 on Wed/Thurs nights, and $159 on Friday night. Right now we have at least ten rooms staying there on Friday night. If you want more info or the code on how to book, just send me a PM!

That keeps them quiet for a couple of hours then - DB is a Canon user!

I've added you on Flickr - hope that is OK! - I am at work at the moment, so I will take a proper look when I am home if that's OK because I know DB would love to see too.

Haha yes that's a camera This is right up DB's street then, whereever we go int the world, we fall into bed at around 3am after night shooting and then we get up at 5am for the sunrise shooting! I love it. We have already discussed taking the tripod up on deck at sunrise when no one else is around and doing some atrium/lobby shots when it is really quiet.

We are still silver too, total of 32 nights, but only 4 cruises. We'll have 6 soon as we're doing a b2b over spring break, that will add two, but not in time to make a difference for this booking...
umm- DCL has never done their rewards program by days. Not sure where you read it, but I know people who have 3 digit castaway numbers...(the first round issued in 2000) and they have always been by number of sailings.

DCL has not plans to change it either...I agree that it isn't fair, but any program is better than none!

I've got a question about the mixology class.

I want to sign up, and my wife may want to as well. I see you are wanting to get a list of the drinks that will be involved, and that would influence my wife (and maybe me) about whether we would want to attend. I most likely would attend.

So, I have 2 questions. First, I see on the sign up page I need my room number. We are in a GTY cabin right now, so I don't know that. Secondly, how full is the class now, and am I in danger of getting shut out? I don't want to sign up (my wife in particular), if she won't be going as I don't want take up somebody's space.

Thanks!

Chuck

I just added it to the overall calendar of DIS events on post #1 of part two thread

10:30 was mentioned on the website but not on DIS placeholder you have if you want to reiterate it there (I know you have the links to website though). Great job with all of that!!

Side story and not DCL.... but this spurred a thought.

We married while on a cruise, and had about 25 people sailing with us. Hubby's aunt/uncle were onboard as their first cruise ever, and had not really ever vacationed much at all. They were early 60s at that time. His aunt has since passed away, but the other night I booked his uncle for his upcoming honeymoon cruise... he is remarrying, and groom and bride are ages 74 and 71. He has stuck with NCL for most of his cruises, and is now Platinum. I was telling hubby about how NCL Latitudes is mainly by days but also gives bonuses for suites and booking 9+ months early. We've only had 3 cruises on NCL (all 7-nighters but one was a suite) but it was interesting the differences in the programs.... and that we had introduced him to cruising almost ten years ago.

But yes -- each program is different. We aren't married to just one line and "cruise around". They need a loyalty program for us non-loyal folks!

I figure I can't get too upset about how they do it since they've had it that way since before we had our first cruise . But it is odd how they have it set up, I think. At the very least you'd think they'd have an either/or thing; You're gold after five cruises or 25 days, e.g.

Yep.

And I was joking about the loyal program for us non-loyal folks LOL. I joke with hubby that we tend to sleep around on cruise lines.
DCL - 21 nights
NCL - 21 nights
Celebrity - 21 nights
Holland America - 14 nights

Plus the upcoming 14 on DCL and 15 on NCL before the year is over. Looks like NCL will be in the lead by one night.

People say you start cruising more after you hit 40.... so I am looking forward to that birthday in a couple years as opposed to dreading it

Hey Chuck
So far we are up to 32 ppl who are coming. As far as what drinks, that is usually determined by DCL not very far before the cruise.....so that one I can't help you with. On every one that I have ever attended, private and otherwise, there is a mix of different kinds, both "fruity" and "serious" (can a drink be serious?? - hahaha) with maybe a shooter too.....

And I am sorry, I really need to edit that because if we go over the 49 they will split us into two classes to be held at two different times.....so I don't think you need to worry about that one. I just haven't done it and will do so as soon as I get done with this post

As far as room number, just put GTY, those ppl I know I will need to update their info before submitting the list to DCL.

Hope that helps!
Beverly
