Ok I was thinking that may be what it was. I wonder why they didnt make balconies on the second floor.

I read on here (somewhere, maybe in an older thread) that it has to do with a Polynesian superstition and spirits sneaking into the building or something - I can't remember exactly. Presumably the third floor is safe because it's too high for them to get in. The newer buildings were designed to accommodate guests and included the balconies on the second floor rather than trying to keep with Polynesian tradition.

Room in Hawaii?

Hello...

I'm about to check in online in 3 days.

We are staying Garden View CL - does anyone have a recommendation for a room to request?

Thanks!

Usually when you are staying CL you are told not to check in online. If you do you will have to go to the GCH when you arrive to get your package/key cards. Normally when staying CL you are taken over to Hawaii and checked in over there. If you have a room request you could send it to IPO.

Wow I had no idea about that!

They actually changed it this year and do advise you to do online check-in prior to your arrival. I emailed IPO to ask because others on the CL thread were saying they were told to do so and I was given the green light to do it. Yay!!! I can do it in 3 days!

I use this link to look for the best room views. We're staying cl in a lagoon view room in a little over 5 weeks. If you click the tab for floor, map, and views, click on a room and you will get a good idea of the view from that room. You can also use this site for Yacht Club views and Swan/Dolphin. They are the only Disney hotels I've found you can use it on.

Here's the link https://www.room77.com/search.html?c...aaa=0&senior=0

I hadn't heard that - good to know! Do you still check in in Hawaii if you do online check-in or do you have to go to the GCH?

Still in Hawaii! I was definitely glad to hear this because last year check-in took FOREVER. I ended up sending my parents up to the room with the kids so I could finish up and it still took another 10-15 minutes!

Hurray! I can check in on-line for the first part of our split-stay tomorrow! If you want a patio or a balcony, I recommend requesting 1st or 3rd floor. The 2nd floors in Hawaii don't have balconies.

We have a thread going for folks who are heading to the Poly soon here: Who will be at the Poly in August 2012. Stop by and say hi and I will add you to the list.

Please let us know how this works out for you. I'm intrigued, but not enough to trust it completely (I fear change, and I love my golf cart ride back to Hawaii ). It'll be nice to know from those going soon if it's worth doing on our trip in September.

I'll be reporting live and will gladly stop in to let you know how it goes! Others who are staying CL at other resorts have had success with it so I'm not apprehensive at all.

No problem. I found the site a few years ago and bookmarked it. It's pretty neat.

We will be arriving for our first Poly visit in two days! We leave the house bright and early (4:00 AM) for our 6:30AM flight on Wednesday morning. I can hardly contain my excitement!

We are staying Theme Park View- CL, and I did online check-in. I am curious to see how this works for us. I hope check-in for us will still be in the Hawaii building. We requested a third floor room, and I am hoping to get that request.

Anyways, I am bringing my laptop, so hopefully I will be able to check in with you all live from the Poly!

Thank you all for your help while planning this trip. My family is so excited!
