As the others said, at the Marina where they rent the watercrafts to check in.

Also, one of the cabanas has a slightly better view of the pool and isn't as obstructed as the other is. To see what I mean, visit both cabanas first and compare. Since being assigned the cabanas is on a first come, first serve basis, get to the Marina a little earlier if you wish to request the cabana with the slightly better view. It isn't a huge difference, but because we had a few kids with us, we wanted the cabana that had a better view of the pool. It you rented the Deluxe cabana then this wouldn't apply to you.

Just a tip for getting the cabana that seems to be a little more desired. We didn't get the one we wanted, but we still had a great day!

Thank you to all the great posts and pictures and info! Getting so excited for our first Disney trip. My mom, myself and DD4 will be at the Poly in November. I'm already having trouble sleeping!

Amen to this! Every time I consider booking somewhere else, I come up with another drawback and end up back in the Poly's waiting arms!

Our daughter will have just turned two when we visit in September. We have a GV CL room booked. I'm thinking the 1st floor would be best for us so she might have a little grassy area to play. What do you Poly experts think?

As soon as packages are released it will be official, but in my mind it’s already official. We are heading back to Poly 3/1/12-3/8/12. Hoping for free dining – may change dates if I have to for free dining. Our stay last year was a dream come true and it really roped me in. Before that, I was a faithful moderate hotel girl. There’s just something magical about this place. It may be because I stayed there as a girl, who knows. My 6 year olds favorite memory from last years trip was having her first virgin Pina Colada with her daddy at the pool. This time around I’m hoping to use the pool a bit more and watch wishes from the beach more. Also, we will do the Luau this time, too.

How early should we get there to get the better view cabana? We have a ressie from 10 am- 2 pm...is 9:00 to early to check in?

I tried to request a cabana in advance and they would not let me. Mauna Kae is the slightly better view than Mauna Loa - but both are great. I did happen to check in earlier than the other folks (by just a couple minutes) so when we were escorted to our cabana and I saw our name on Mauna Loa, the attendant said I could switch if I wanted to - and I did.

Here are some pics (no pics of the fruit basket because they bring it when you ask for it so I forgot to take pics of it later but you can find it elsewhere on this thread - HUGE amount of fruit & they also stock your fridge with sodas and water):

View from top of slide - Mauna Kea on the left and Mauna Loa on the right:

Outside photo of Mauna Kea:

Let me add - this was one of the best parts of the trip - just relaxing and enjoying the pool and cabana! The loungers are incredibly comfortable and you can move the furniture around so you are shaded - or not! You can request food brought to your cabana but you can also just grab stuff from Captain cooks (which is what we did). I highly recommend the cabana!!!

I realize the photo from the top of the slide does not even show Mauna Kae (or Kea, I'm not spelling it right ).

But if you look down at the set of stairs - you can see Mauna Loa right in front of the stairs. The one we stayed it is to the left of the stairs behind the shrubbery. You can see the pool through the shrubs though and it seemed to be a tad more excluded from everyone's view. But again, both are great!

We like the first floor rooms too. We feel we have more room to 'move'.

Oops, forgot to answer your question about check in time! I am not sure if they will allow you to check in that early or not. We had an all day reservation and I checked in at 9:40. I was totally ok with waiting for the cabana, but I wanted to pick Mauna Kea (if they would let me). The other folks came just a few minutes after me so I'm glad I got there before.

But since they are managed by the Mikala Canoe Club (marina), you can't check in until they are there. They have to be there at 10 am but I'm not sure I've seen anywhere that they open earlier. We did have to wait at the window when we got there for someone to arrive so at least on our day, they opened at 10 but someone got there at 9:45.

They won't let you check in too earlyjusto hold have mentioned that, but what I meant was you'd essentially be ahead of the other party in line to check in so you would have your first choice. I would say maybe 9:30? Grab a coffee at Capt Cooks and just hang by the boats

Yes and Mona Kea is the one with the slightly better view! We got the other one since the other party beat us to the punch but we had such a relaxing and fun day!

I booked a Cabana for us for MNSSHP Relaxation Day (Sept 30)....I wanted Maunu Kea, and asked IPO (I'm staying club level) if they could request it for us....but as mentioned, they don't book ahead...However, she had mentioned that if I stop by concierge the night before they can contact the booking dept and put our request in then??? I wonder has anyone any experience with this??? If not, I was thinking of just stopping in earlier on the morining around 9:30 and hoping for the best
