Personally I would be concerned with damage to the clothing.

Deb & Bill is correct. The Boardwalk is modeled after early 1900s Atlantic City. It doesn't look anything like the Lower East Side

From the Disneyworld web site:
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/des...eys-boardwalk/ With sherbet-colored building facades, striped awnings, rising columns and archways, Disney's BoardWalk is designed after the boardwalks that were famous during the turn of the 20th century along such coastal cities as Coney Island, New York and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The miniature carousel located in the lobby of Disney's BoardWalk Inn was hand-crafted in the 1920s at Coney Island by M.C. Illions, a master designer and manufacturer of merry-go-rounds.

From Mouseplanet:
http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/dvc/4_Resorts/BVR.htm Theme Disney's Boardwalk Villas Resort is reminiscent of turn of the century Coney Island. In the 1890's through about 1930, Coney Island was the main vacation destination for New Yorkers and others on the East coast. The resort includes a real boardwalk (purists point out that it's more of a pier than a boardwalk, since there is no beach) along a waterfront filled with stores, restaurants, dance halls, and other entertainment. The pool area is themed like Luna Park, one of Coney Island's legendary amusement parks, and has a distinct amusement park atmosphere. It even includes a roller coaster which is really a water slide and a pool bar dressed up as a carousel.

Interesting. I had only heard Atlantic City used as comparison. However, the images of NYC you'll see with clothing strung on lines is more indicative of the lower east side (of Manhattan), then the Brooklyn beach areas.

I think the Boardwalk/Atlantic City confusion has to do with the Beach Club. Isn't that the resort modeled after Atlantic City?
Maybe a research project for this afternoon...

and and ![]() According to Wikipedia: This hotel (BC) was designed by Robert A.M. Stern. It is themed after seaside cottages found in Newport at the turn of the century, with the guest rooms following suit...

WDWKOOK! ![]() I was just on Wikipedia also looking for the answer. I imagine the reason we all have Atlantic City in our minds is because of the famous Boardwalk in AC. Even today you see the surrey bikes on that Boardwalk as well as the one in WDW. Newport makes sense, more elegant. AC was always had a bit of a shady past associated with it...and I can say that since I live in NJ
